Hi Lola, Yes we use Google Chrome because it is so much faster than firefox at issues and returns. We do though have problems with printing that has to be sorted out. Returns: Chrome interface does not 'show' reserves when items are being checked in so it is critical to have the volumne turned on that that the audio alerts can be clearly heard (so that the reserves are caught). Chrome will not print the slips either, aso we put the reserves in a pile and check them in again in Firefox during quiet moments so we can get the slips out. Clunky - yes - but it works and is worth doing for the big speed increases we gain in checking items in using Chrome. Issues: we use Chrome because it is faster but I have a feeling we have done something cutre with the printer to get the slipos printing out ie networking them somehow. I will have to investigate and get back to you. The biggest headache I have wiuth 3.2 is around printing and I would love to help get this issue strealined and problem free. Cheers Jo. Just installed Koha from git, and the patron card/spine labels seem to work fine. However.... While using Koha 2.2.9 on win32 I was not happy with the standard barcode generated by Koha (when I could get them to work) so I used the following software and process to generate my own. Option 1 ******************************** This requires allowing access to the MySQL database that holds all of your Koha information. *BE CAREFUL AND MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE RAMIFICATIONS OF DOING THIS* Barcodes are just a font. Free barcode 39 font http://www.squaregear.net/fonts/free3of9.shtml Free (for non-profit and edu) label making/design software http://www.idautomation.com/labelsoftware/free/ MySQLAdmin and GUI tools from http://library.pantek.com/Applications/MySQL/Downloads/MySQLGUITools/mysql-… Install MySQLGUITools. Use a multi-table MySQL query to pull the data from both the biblio and items tables into a single “output” table, then export to CSV. the SQL query : SELECT biblio.biblionumber, biblio.title, items.barcode, items.itemcallnumber FROM biblio, items WHERE biblio.biblionumber = items.biblionumber; Will produce (in my case) a CSV like biblionumber title barcode itemcallnumber 1 Novell's ZENworks administrator's handbook / 1 2 The New York Public Library desk reference. 30525 031 new 3 Picture perfect / 36003 FIC PIC 6 Just listen : 30431 FIC DES 5 The lovely bones : 30319 FIC SEB 8 Unexplained / 109541 001.94 ALL 9 Whatever happened to Janie? / 109542 10 The bad beginning / 50000 F SNI 11 The field guide / 50003 F DIT 12 The clique : 109528 F HAR As you get into larger and larger biblionumbers you may want to add a > to the query: SELECT biblio.biblionumber, biblio.title, items.barcode, items.itemcallnumber FROM biblio, items WHERE biblio.biblionumber>4 = items.biblionumber; The >4 causes the query to only show rows where the biblionumber is (greater than)> 4 Install the barcode font, and the label making software. You can then design your labels, input data from the CSV, and produce your own custom labels with almost any information you desire. I include the barcode, title, call number, and school name on all of my labels. If you can obtain one, the Brother QL-500 is a wonderful label printer that also includes label design software that will allow you to print barcodes. This process is not as easy as just pressing the button in Koha, but, I have found it to work quite in my environment. Option 2:****************************** Create a "remote query" in PHP so that you can automagically generate a barcode ready list. Sorry to but in here.....but I have a couple questions.. Is there a known issue with 3.0.6 and labels? ( I already have a nice process for creating labels, but was hoping to use the Koha built in tools) I ask this as I have been in the process of migrating from 2.29 to 3.0.6, but, from what I gather from this conversation, I may be better off going to 3.2? As Chris Nighswonger (who wrote the labels code) has said, it has been totally rewritten for 3.2.0 (it's 3.0.6 btw) so you are much better off installing that. Quite a few libraries, including Horowhenua Library Trust the original Koha library, are running what is very soon to be 3.2.0 in production. So I would class that as a real alternative, and in fact a better alternative to installing 3.0.6 and having some one off customised and not reusable work done. Hello Everyone, Printing Spine label and patron cards: I started working on this in May and 3.06 is still the preferred stable version. I've seen two posts that say to wait for 3.2. I've installed in various configurations (now have Thai lang with marc-21; strange, but it seems to work for input and searching).d I can't get any of the label options to work (English lang mostly) for books or patrons (at least not more than minimally -- I can get a barcode graphically and as text, but that's it. (Oh, and a nice red box around the items. Nothing I do to customize (choose what's on the label) has any effect. Finally, I can't get the export to csv to work to try it. Apologies for not seeing it if it's obvious, but now I would like to ask for suggestions. Am I wrong or is this just not working? Adding of bibliographic record into KOHA 2.2.9

I hope friends can help me solved the problem with adding bibliographic record and trying to go to the items . I have created a Bibliographic record and I am sure it meets the standards of cataloguing using MARC21 rules. My problem is when adding bibliographic record and trying to go to the items the system takes a lot of time without either showing that the bibliographic record was successfully added. I work with KOHA 2.2.9. on a Windows Platform if any one has the way out please share your input on this. ties to authorities while cataloging

Everyone, Sorry but this another stupid newbie question. I'm still trying to figure out how authorities are used in Koha. Is there a way to search the authority files for headings while cataloging in Koha - for example to see what headings are already established or have been used in the catalog already? KOHA not calculating fines

I am having a problem with my Koha implementation. When an item is checked out and it is overdue, it is indicated as so in the user account. However, when it is checked in, the fines do not appear on the patron's account. Here is my typical loan rule table: Patron Category Item Type Fine Amount Fine Days Fine Grace Period Fine Charging Interval Checkouts Allowed Loan Period Undergraduate Students Mpilo Reserve books $2.00 20day(s) 0 1 day(s) 1 1 Undergraduate Students Mpilo Short Term Loan Books $2.00 0 1 day(s) 2 1 Undergraduate Students Mpilo Two week loan Books $1.00 0 1 day(s) 4 14 Now when I loan out an item of type reserve to patron category undergraduate, the item when overdue, it is indicated as such but when the item is checked in, the fine is not shown on the patron's account. I do not know where I missed the point.
