intranet library set incorrectly
by Catherine Chambers 21 Sep '10

21 Sep '10

Hi there I am using Koha 3.0.06, Debian Lenny. My organisation has two libraries, University Library and Children's Library. Can anyone suggest why, when I log into the intranet as a staff member, the library set in the top right corner of the screen is always the Children's Library? The staff members all have their home library set to University Library. Thanks, Catherine

Reports Defined Parameters
by Barry Cannon 21 Sep '10

21 Sep '10

Hello, Is anyone using the Run-time Defined Paramets for the SQL reports? I can't seem to get it to run. Even entering the sample query proved gets the following error: Can't use an undefined value as an ARRAY reference at /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/reports/guided_reports.pl line 607. Any ideas? holds and multiple branches
by Chad Billman 20 Sep '10

20 Sep '10

Hello, We are currently running one installation of koha (3.0.x) for 10 branches. Our librarians are getting frustrated by the current behavior of holds. Particularly in situations where multiple branches contain the same book. They would like a way to place a hold on the next available item in a specific branch. I see the preferences "canreservefromotherbranches" and "IndependantBranches" but I am a little confused about what exactly these will change. Currently we have "canreservefromotherbranches" set to On and IndependantBranches set to Off. I am not sure if toggling these preferences will give us the desired holds behavior. I am also concerned about changing IndependantBranches. I thought I read IndependentBranches should not be changed after the system is in use. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Item type icons display problem in OPAC
by Vikas Kumar 20 Sep '10

20 Sep '10

Hi All, First I would thank you all for your inputs. We are running Koha version 3.00.00.107. We have also enabled XSLTDetailsDisplay and XSLTResultsDisplay, thus item type with icons can be displayed in OPAC search results. We are also entering the required data in leader (MARC Field 000). Now, it seems that, type icons are prefixed. like in search result page there can be only below types for icons. Book Mixed Materials Computer File Map Visual Material Sound On the other hand, We have also defined some custom types in administration module . like Reports, Project Documents, etc.. which appears on "place hold" page. Is there any way we can display these icons ( appearing on "place hold" page ) on OPAC Search Result page ?? Click here<http://vikas3456.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/opac-result.jpg>to see the attachment. Regards, Vikas

Re: [Koha] Message from PTFS/LibLime

Please try not to break thread. (ed c - you're one of those breaking up the thread.) I'm sorry if my mail client is not up to your high standards. Please don't get sarcastic. It's not a high standard. The metadata headers for threading have been around for 35 years, so it's a pretty basic error if a mail client can't use them. But the latest message appeared in-thread, so I don't really understand why the thread was broken previously. Oh well, I was just explaining why I hadn't seen PTFS's reaction in time. [...] Indeed, charity law and non-profit law are not the same, so why ask me about US non-profit law when I criticised US charity law? Basically the problem there is it doesn't often exist. Because you did so while referring to a 501(c)3, which is organized under non-profit law. I feel the central Koha project body should be a charity. Is that even possible in the US? Yes. The laws vary by state though, I believe. "One of the weaknesses in U.S. payment systems is how easy it is to create bogus checks and deposit them at a bank," said Michael Herd, a spokesman for NACHA/The Electronics Payments Association, which sets rules for electronic bank transfers. -- http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7914159/ [...] And this is why there are no non-profit organizations based in the US, I guess? Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. :-) Having to watch your bank account closely and be cautious about who sees your cheques and transfer details is another overhead cost which I feel means the Koha community should seriously consider being based outside the US, in some country with a better banking system. I have had trouble with cash in Europe so it isn't just the US. I won't get into but I couldn't even get gasoline and train tickets with cash or credit in 2 different European countries. I am not really advocating for the USA but I don't think your particular concerns are reasons not to do it there.
