Package updates for 3.2.0
by Robin Sheat 09 Dec '10

09 Dec '10

With the release of 3.2.0, I've upgraded the packages in the repository, and at the same time adjusted their layout a bit. The nutshell version is that there are now two Koha distributions included in the repository: 'squeeze' and 'squeeze-dev'. Squeeze will be updated only when koha has a version bump, most likely this'll be 3.2.1. Squueze-dev will be updated every week or so when the master branch is updated. So the 'squeeze' stable releases can be considered production ready. 'squeeze-dev' is for those who like to watch things break and get fixed again. The gritty details can be found here: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_3.2_on_Debian_Squeeze And almost exactly 10 minutes after Chris mentioned it in his talk :) -- Robin Sheat Catalyst IT Ltd. ✆ +64 4 803 2204 GPG: 5957 6D23 8B16 EFAB FEF8 7175 14D3 6485 A99C EB6D

Hello All, I'm trying to install Koha via the Mizstik Live CD. Has anyone else done this before? I'm running into some issues because I can't seem to connect to "http://localhost:8080", or via my server IP. Any advice? I'm clueless Thanks! MARC tag for noting Koha auto-modification?
by MJ Ray 08 Dec '10

08 Dec '10

A little introduction before the question: I'm working on making Koha recover a little from an incomplete marcxml record. This should reduce the number of times that Koha fails (with a code 500 Internal Server Error) or returns a misleading 404 Not Found to a search or link, usually because a MARC record was imported with incorrect settings. Currently we have to intervene directly in the database to repair such problems and that's no fun. This is a symptom of http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=2916 that I mentioned in another thread yesterday. My solution is to make Koha try to recover by regenerating marcxml from the binary MARC record. This would be harmful for mature records, but you can't get very far with an incomplete MARCXML record anyway, so this doesn't usually happen to mature records. It usually happens when someone has managed to be imported or entered with inconsistent character encodings or other corruption. Regeneration should be just enough to allow opening the record editor or using the Koha C4 API to fix whatever's broken. Further discussion: http://stats.workbuffer.org/irclog/koha/2010-11-25#i_550339 http://stats.workbuffer.org/irclog/koha/2010-12-08#i_559023 I've been advised to dump the broken MARCXML record to system logs and note in the regenerated record when it was done. So, the question is this: Where should the regeneration note go? jcamins suggested tag 993 because it's used for such things by the ANS. Would that be OK with everyone? MARC frameworks - sharing
by Elaine Bradtke 08 Dec '10

08 Dec '10

I'm about to put together some rather specialized frameworks that may be useful for other collections that have historical or archival sound recordings in digital formats (we have both). Even basing it on the existing one for audio cassettes and CDs is taking a bit of time. It seems like it would be a good idea to set up a repository of useful frameworks that we could share. >From what I can tell, all the frameworks are in the same file, which makes sharing more difficult. Someone may want to use my digital audio framework, but they may have their own custom frameworks that they would need to keep. I wonder how it might be made easier to import and export individual frameworks without overwriting existing ones. I suppose one could cut and paste the raw data, but it would be nice to have a more user friendly method. -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 ext 36 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Registered Company No. 297142 Charity Registered in England and Wales No. 305999 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture" --Elvis Costello (Musician magazine No. 60 (October 1983), p. 52)

Fwd: Open Source Bridge 2011: Registration Now Open!
by Lori Bowen Ayre 07 Dec '10

07 Dec '10

Hi All, I wanted to put a plug in for this conference in Portland. It's called Open Source Bridge and it is a great place to troll for developers. I went last year and gave a presentation on what is going on with libraries and Koha and Evergreen hoping to generate some interest. Now it is your turn to go there, meet some of these folks, and get them on your payroll. And an extra bonus is that this conference is put on by a group of women developers which, as you may already know, are not all that common. Lori ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Open Source Bridge <info(a)opensourcebridge.org> Date: Tue, Dec 7, 2010 at 10:27 AM Subject: Open Source Bridge 2011: Registration Now Open! To: Lori Ayre <Lori.Ayre(a)galecia.com> Open Source Bridge wants to thank you for your participation in our previous events and is happy to announce that we have opened registration for our upcoming conference in June 2011! See our registration page for all the details: http://osbridge.eventbrite.com/ Open Source Bridge will be held June 21-24, 2011 at the Eliot Center in Downtown Portland, Oregon. We are planning for our best event yet and your participation will help make that happen. New this year, we have multiple early-bird pricing tiers. Through the end of 2010, we are offering a limited number of tickets at $175 (that's a savings of $125 off the regular ticket price). This is a unique opportunity to lock in your admission to Open Source Bridge and give some early support to the event. In addition to this early bird pricing tier, we offer the following: # 100 tickets at $195, until the end of February. # Unlimited early bird tickets at $225 until April 15th. # Unlimited full price tickets at $300. # As always, we offer a student rate of $99, available anytime. All pricing tiers are currently open, and if you order before the end of 2010, we will include a complimentary Open Source Bridge scarf! Interested in speaking? We'll be opening the CFP in mid-January and will send another announcement then. Interested in volunteering? We encourage those of you interested in being more involved with Open Source Bridge to sign up for our volunteer list: http://opensourcebridge.org/get-involved/ Interested in sponsoring? Let us know by contacting sponsor(a)opensourcebridge.org and we'll send you a prospectus. We hope that you are as excited as we are about Open Source Bridge 2011. Re: [Koha] How to apply a patch?
by Scott Knight 07 Dec '10

One more, I see in each of the file paths an "a" and a "b" yet these designations are not given to the paths listed at the top of the patch. What is the purpose for the a/b designation? I've checked each of the files and found the areas to make the modifications only to find they were already there from the beginning. Is their something else needed for Zebra to execute the Advanced Reader search? If you want to continue to get help from the whole Koha community you'll need to reply to all to include the mailing list. > When it look at each of the files in terminal it shows as a "new file" It sounds like you haven't found the file you need to edit. Your editor thinks you're creating a new file with that name. You'll first need to locate the files in question, then edit. -- Owen On Tue, Dec 7, 2010 at 1:02 PM, Scott Knight <sknight(a)hissda.org> wrote: > Ok that makes sense.
