Currently Available Items Filter Problem
by massoud alshareef 02 Jan '11

Hello, Here is our shot to solve the that Availability Filter problem.. As suggested, we uncommented all lines in the following code (part of file: search.pm) # if ( $this_limit =~ /available/ ) { # ## 'available' is defined as (items.onloan is NULL) and (items.itemlost = 0) ## In English: ## all records not indexed in the onloan register (zebra) and all records with a value of lost equal to 0 # $availability_limit .= #"( ( allrecords,AlwaysMatches='' not onloan,AlwaysMatches='') and (lost,st-numeric=0) )"; #or ( allrecords,AlwaysMatches='' not lost,AlwaysMatches='')) )"; # $limit_cgi .= "&limit=available"; # $limit_desc .= ""; Clicking on Currently Available Items filter here ( http://alshafallah.maktabat-online.net/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=science) gives no results. This is in spite that all records in the catalog are not indexed in the onloan register (zebra) and all records have a value of lost equal to 0 in the database. We uploaded English only marc file to test with, download from the net, and we noticed that the link of the availability worked fine, then as we investigated its records we found the field 500$a is filled with the word "available" ! The item considered to available if field 500$a is loaded with "available" string else it's not available. We understand that Availability of a title means it has copies on the shelf ready for loan; in technical terms 'available' is defined as (items.onloan is NULL) and (items.itemlost = 0) ...etc Thank you for your help. Thanks, AbdulSalam

ALL, Sorry I have been absent from the list and just in general. We had a pipe burst and the water damage closed the library since 11/30/2010. We hope to have the main library open in the next few months. Meanwhile please have a safe and peaceful New Year. I promise to be in touch. Cheers, Lee in Butte

Charactersets and moving from 2.2.9 to 3.2.x
by Magnus Enger 30 Dec '10

30 Dec '10

Dear all, I'm at my wit's end here... I'm trying to move some records from a 2.2.9 install to a 3.2.x install. Yep, just the records, so i exported them from 2.2.9 and have them in a file - I'm not trying to convert/upgrade the whole database/installation. Now, I think the main problem is that a number of the records have characters in them that "look strange", like this: aus der wirtschaftlichen Abhñgigkeit von Militär und Rüstung How it got to be like that I don't know... Now when I try to run bulkmarcimport.pl in verbose mode I get lots of this: .....................Bad MARC record 94: utf8 "\xE4" does not map to Unicode at /usr/lib/perl/5.10/Encode.pm line 174, <GEN11> line 95. skipped Bad MARC record 95: utf8 "\xFC" does not map to Unicode at /usr/lib/perl/5.10/Encode.pm line 174, <GEN11> line 96. skipped .Bad MARC record 97: utf8 "\xFC" does not map to Unicode at /usr/lib/perl/5.10/Encode.pm line 174, <GEN11> line 98. skipped .Bad MARC record 99: utf8 "\xFC" does not map to Unicode at /usr/lib/perl/5.10/Encode.pm line 174, <GEN11> line 100. skipped .Bad MARC record 101: utf8 "\xE4" does not map to Unicode at /usr/lib/perl/5.10/Encode.pm line 174, <GEN11> line 102. skipped .........Bad MARC record 111: utf8 "\xE9" does not map to Unicode at /usr/lib/perl/5.10/Encode.pm line 174, <GEN11> line 112. skipped I tried running the file I exported from 2.2.9 through iconv to convert it to UTF-8, but of course that changes the length of some fields, resulting in "clipped" fields. I tried creating a script to parse the records and walk through every field and subfield, convert the subfields to UTF-8 and re-assemble the records, but this seems to only result in errors like the ones above, e.g.: utf8 "\xC3" does not map to Unicode at /usr/lib/perl/5.10/Encode.pm line 174. If anyone has any tips on what to do in a situation like this I would be forever grateful! Best regards, Magnus Enger libriotech.no

slow koha on Safari
by Shelley & Kurt Kemperman 30 Dec '10

30 Dec '10

I am migrating book records via z39.50 searches and am finding it very slow going. Seems like I read somewhere in the various manuals, etc., that Koha ran slowly on Safari. Has anyone else had this experience? Or is it probably just my network. Shelley

Printing Slip Issues
by Nicole Engard 29 Dec '10

29 Dec '10

Hi all, I got the following from the Arcadia library and I'm really stuck on how to help them. If anyone else has any suggestions can you share them with us all? "We are able to print checkout slips/receipts on the 3 check out stations from IE only using the Generic/Text driver. We can't print from FF or Chrome on these stations using the Epson U200 driver. On the check-in station we can get the Epson T220 driver to work with FF for the hold slips/receipts, but the slips are too long and we aren't able to capture all of the holds consistently--not sure if that is a Koha or FF issue. The receipts are still form feeding twice the length of the receipt than we need or want. What are other libraries using as receipt printers / drivers? This is still an active issue for us. We would like there to be some consistency between the browsers in use on the 4 circ stations. What we have now is just a band aid of sorts because we needed to print something for the patrons." Thanks a ton, Nicole

Label creator error
by cjwalke 29 Dec '10

Since upgrading to 3.2, the Label Creator tool is not functioning. All my layouts, templates and batches are gone and everything I click on returns an error. When I click on manage label batches I get this error: Undefined subroutine &main::get_active_layout called at /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/labels/label-manager.pl line 51. Please help. Re: [Koha] Printing Slip Issues

First thing I would try is printing from notepad, once you get that behaving right (to the slip printers ... using the proper drivers) next thing would be opening a file in your browser and tweaking the settings for margins etc until that prints right. Once you can print nicely from your browser the only thing you might want to do is add or remove some <p> tags in the slip templates so they print out right.
