Barcode Sorting Issue in Report

dear list members i have created a report in koha3 with the following sql: SELECT items.barcode,items.dateaccessioned,items.price,items.itemcallnumber,items.holdingbranch,biblioitems.biblioitemnumber,biblioitems.isbn,biblioitems.publicationyear,biblioitems.pages,biblioitems.size,biblioitems.place,biblio.title,biblio.author,biblio.copyrightdate FROM items LEFT JOIN biblioitems on (items.biblioitemnumber=biblioitems.biblioitemnumber) LEFT JOIN biblio on (biblioitems.biblionumber=biblio.biblionumber) ORDER BY (items.barcode) asc now items.barcode field has values in alpha numeric (some are starting from 1, 2, 3, 4, etc and some barcodes are with prefix like m23, m45, m46, m67, etc ) but in my report i got the output in strange sorting order like: items.barcode ---------------------- 1565678 89765 u123456711 u12345679 .... .... but i want to sort numbers first, then barcodes with prefix. Can someone guide me how to do so? a friend of mine suggested me to use CAST in sql but i don't know what is this and how to use it -- Regards Abdul Vali Librarian - ASE School

Hi all, I'm new to Koha and have very little "command line" OS experience. Uh oh! Thankfully, I have a friend who's great at this stuff. Anyway, we have a small inventory of library books (9,000) at a single private school here in Ann Arbor, Michigan. None of us are library admins so setting the up system in the first place (several years ago now) was quite a trick, I'm told. Now we want to change servers as our existing host is moving on to other interests. So we need to start with a new server and migrate the data there (this time inside the school). To do that we've installed VirtualBox on a Mac Pro and used Kyle Hall's ready-to-go virtual disks to get setup. All is well but we got struck trying to get the existing sql database moved into place. We were running into some password conflicts but think we can sort that out. My question now is will a Koha 3.0 (3.1?) database work fine with version 3.2? Or is it necessary to upgrade the existing system to 3.2 before attempting to migrate the data? Thanks. Jay

Rural Bookmobiles, No Connectivity, Keeping Statistics by Stop, and KOC

Greetings- We have implemented Koha 3.2 for part (books-by-mail) of our rural services operation with the help of our OSS support vendor. Part 2 of the implementation will be for three rural bookmobiles sharing a database. The bookmobile offices are located in different parts of our large, rural state. Many of the people and places served by our three bookmobiles do not have connectivity to the Internet. We plan to make heavy use of Kyle Hall's Koha Offline Circulation (KOC) v. 1.2 software to help overcome this problem. However, as a state agency, and in the name of properly managing/assigning the number of stops for each bookmobile, we must find a way to count the number of checkouts made at a particular stop to be effective in organizing our resources. Many of you are probably thinking that we could create a patron attribute called stop and associate it with an individual patron in the patron record. This approach, unfortunately, will not work in our case since patrons may use one or more stops. We need to record stop information at the time of checkout using KOC. One idea we have is the creation of a new table called "stops", or an addition to one of the borrowers tables that contains stop and bookmobile data that could be downloaded prior to a run and used in the KOC environment. We are are not developers, and we can ask our support vendor or Kyle Hall for assistance, but we do wonder if anyone in the community has experienced, and perhaps solved, this kind of problem. Gary, Not having dealt with it directly but just reading the info on the site it says that: "The client saves circulation data as .koc files." It might also be easy to generate a report from these files with the desired information. Gary, The information you seek should already be in the database without needing to add further database complication. If you have the timetable of the bookmobile in question and each bookmobile is a different "location", it should be a relatively easy database query to select the count of all issued selections between (for instance) 5 minutes before arrival until 5 minutes after departure for each "stop" in the timetable. This assumes that stops are more than 10 minutes apart. normalization rule - defining a matching rule

Can someone please point me to more info about normalization rules in the context of defining a matching rule in Koha? Scenario: Our set of books currently in Koha was imported from Marc that we created using MarcEdit (mapping from an Excel spreadsheet). As a result our Marc information is likely "not as good" as that of LOC for any given book. So now we are trying to "overlay", or "overwrite" as many of the biblio records in our Koha database with (hopefully) "better" MARC records from LOC (or wherever). Problem: When I do a bulk z39.50 lookup on ISBN numbers (using MarcEdit), the ISBN numbers I receive from LOC often contain trailing text (like "paperback", or ":"). When I stage these records and try to match the staged records on ISBN in Koha this trailing text prevents many matches. I am assuming that it is the job of some sort of normalization routine to force a match, however I am not able to find any documentation or examples describing how one would define his/her own normalization routine. Can someone please provide an example? Getting old Koha data to new Koha version without bringing old settings

We have been using Koha since version 2.2.7 I believe, and some upgrades haven't been as smooth as I would like them to be, mainly I think due to errors in our original database. I have been playing around with the sample data in Koha 3.2.2, and I noticed there are many great features we seem to be missing out on. So what I would like to do is start fresh with an empty database, and transfer libraries (well, it's only one library) books, patrons and whatever holds them together to the new setup, without any superfluous data that might corrupt the new setup. The existing setup is mostly the default setup. Is that possible and how would I go about it? Marty "Everything I learned about Linux I can blame on Koha"

Hi All, Has anyone tried printing barcode labels on a parcode printer. Also can anyone tell me which barcode printer should we purchase to print our barcode labels. Currently we're not considering the ordinary printers to print our barcodes.
