Z39.50 sources (esp. in Belgium)
by Klaas Chielens 10 Mar '11

10 Mar '11

Hi, Is there a list of confirmed working Z39.50 servers? I have found quite a few of the standard ones to be not working (or not responding / giving errors) while some other online lists i have found seem to be quite old/outdated/incomplete. If there are any sources in Belgium other than the CIBLE (ULB) which works great (!), then I'd be very happy to hear about them; especially if the royal library would have such an access (I have been unable to find it so far) or the VUB or any other Dutch Speaking university (all the information i found about libis having an interface did not work :( ). This would be extremely useful as we have a lot of non-english books that are not necessarily (and mostly not at all) catalogued in the LOC or Columbia or the other standard servers. thanks a bunch! Not getting login page in Staff-Client module
by karthick karthi 10 Mar '11

10 Mar '11

Hello, I have installed Koha 3.2.2 on Ubuntu 10.10. For installing Koha I used Koha live cd downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/projects/kohalivecd/ by Mizstik. Installation was fine but I am not getting Login page in staff-client module. It goes to staff-client module directly and displays main menu. On right hand top of the main menu it says 'you are not logged in'. Hence I am unable to change any options in 'Global system preferences'. When I try to change it says 'Error; your data might not have been saved; You need to log in again, your session has timed out'. Kindly suggest me what I have to do to get the login page when I start the staff-client module. The koha-httpd.conf details for Intranet are as follows: ## Intranet <VirtualHost *:8080> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot /usr/share/koha/intranet/htdocs ServerName localhost:8080 # ServerAlias intranet.mydomain.com ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/koha/ "/usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/" ScriptAlias /index.html "/usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/mainpage.pl" ScriptAlias /search "/usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/search.pl" ErrorLog /var/log/koha/koha-error_log -- Thanks with Regards, B. Idea: Basing Cart off Items instead of Biblios
by Ian Walls 10 Mar '11

10 Mar '11

Koha Community, I'd like to solicit some feedback on this idea. It seems to me that we could greatly increase the utility of the Cart, both on the patron side and the staff side, if we had it work off Item records primarily instead of the Biblio record. Some things we'd be able to do from the Cart if we had this: 1. Batch Item mod 2. Move items from multiple biblios to a single new biblio, in one step 3. Print label batches 4. Place item-level holds (in addition to title-level) Since item records all contain the biblionumbers for their Biblios, it would be a single additional step to convert the list of itemnumbers into a list of distinct biblionumbers, and do all the same biblio-level functions we do now (like biblio-level holds, emailing/printing, and adding to Lists). Am I missing a complication in the implementation or a workflow issue that would make this untenable? What does everyone think? Koha software based self-check
by Lori Bowen Ayre 09 Mar '11

09 Mar '11

Is anyone out there using the Koha OPAC as a self-checkout station? I ask because I know this can be done with Evergreen (King County Library System is doing it) and it makes a self-check station cost $300 instead of $2000. All they did was tweak the OPAC a bit and put a scanner (or RFID reader) on a low end PC and bingo...self check. Has anyone tried that? Koha - tags/fields used by Koha system

Everyone, I apologize for the newbie question, but we are working on our frameworks, and can some one point me to a list of fields used by the Koha system? Up-gradation from Koha-3.00.06 to Koha-3.02.05
by Abdul Vali 09 Mar '11

09 Mar '11

Dear all My library is running on Koha-3.00.06 on Ubuntu 10 and has almost 4500 biblios, 6700 items and 120 patrons. I want to upgrade to the latest version of Koha. But I have come to know that is a lot of design difference in both versions (database design and new perl modules). So what is the safe way to upgrade so that my data may not affect. Is it safe to execute in new version?: make make test sudo make upgrade -- Regards Abdul Vali Librarian - ASE School

Their non-sharing restriction probably means that setting up a Z3950 server would be out. I'm wondering about the MARC display available under OPAC. I'm guessing that would probably not get them too upset. I've found most of our books from AMICUS or the Library of Congress. Occasionally I've had to go to the Oxford library. AMICUS (amicus.collectionscanada.gc.ca, port 210, database ANY) does require registration. A lot of British books are in their database. Koha Idea: Basing Cart off Items instead of Biblios
