We have just transferred all our records from a windows based 2.2.9 to a Linux based 3.02 - a steep learning curve but it seems to have gone well so far. However we have noted that itemtype and call number did not appear in the record. We solved the itemtype by batch changes. However, it appears that we have to solve the call number issue item by item (yes, over 5000 of them). When we open the edit function for the item we can see the call number sitting there in 952o so it has imported from 852a quite happily. However, it does not show in the record, OPAC or back end, till we edit then save, item by item. Does anyone know of a way to do bulk saves or is there something we can run to do this for us. It is very time consuming opening each item only to save information already showing there. Trouble importing authorities, unimarc, koha 3.2.5

Hello, We are trying to import authorities and biblios from an old system into koha but we've run into several problems. There is another recent thread related to authorities import but I don't think the problems are related. Our problem is as following. We tried to import authorities from a marc file with the following format: LDR 00119nx a22000613 009 HERBERT, FRANK 200 _aHERBERT _bFRANK 801 0 _aRO _bARBJ using the bulkauthimport.pl tool. The tool gives no error and 1 item seems imported. However we can see nothing in the interface. I also tried to use the stated import from the interface but after some research I found a thread saying it is only used for biblios and not authorities. Upon some digging we noticed the following warn in zebraidx: 22:24:10-01/03 zebraidx(1209) [warn] /usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/authorities/etc/dom-config-marc.xml: stylesheet authority-zebra-indexdefs.xsl not found in path /usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/authorities/etc:/usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/etc:/usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/marc_defs/unimarc/authorities:/usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/lang_defs/en:/usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/xsl Is there a xsl for unimarc? I don't know if this is causing the problem. The entries are imported and not indexed? Or they are not even imported. Is the marc format wrong for unimarc? Also it seems that the unimarc install only creates the default authority type. In marc21 there are several created. Can this be a cause of problems? Also, again unrelated to the previous problems when searching for authorities from the create biblio page the following error occurs: Premature end of script headers: auth_finder.pl, referer: http://10.10.0.12:8002/cgi-bin/koha/authorities/auth_finder.pl?authtypecode… It seems there is no luck for authorities today. cannot see items in holdings after entering new items in record

I was having problem with barcode printing. While adding new items in label, the items are displayed but cannot be added as there are no check box and add button. And when the records are viewed in normal preview, there are no items in holdings as they should be and in Item view, too, there are no items added. When "Edit Item" is clicked, the items added are present. However, adding items or editing is like before but shows not much of difference. When new item is added in that record, it shows the addition. When it is deleted, the other item is also deleted. I just can not figure out what is happening. Shelf browsing not showing up after upgrade to koha_3_02_03

Hi, We do not have call numbers assigned to our books, however shelf browsing was working for us pre koha_3_02_03. That is, only the "Browse Shelf" link would show up on the OPAC detail page in the callnumber column. We have only recently noticed that the "Browse Shelf" link is no longer showing up. We suspect the change in bahaviour happened when we upgraded. We have the "OPACShelfBrowser" global system preference set to "on". Here is a sample of our 952 fields: 952 _40 _xvg/vg _err _00 _912232 _bOPIACS _10 _d2011-02-24 _zHow admirals, scientists and politicians impeded the development of high technology in Canada's wartime navy. The reasons were diverse - the limited pre-war infrastructure, poor leadership, nav al conservatism, inadequate international technical liaison and the Admiralty's refusal to give reasonable assistance to the Canadian effort. _8navy_RCN _71 _cbox_rr_fl3 _g20.00 _yBK _aOPIACS As I recall setting 952$a, $b, and $c seemed to get the shelf browsing working (when it was working) even without call numbers. If you use the patron import tool in koha, it will encrypt the passwords for you. We also tried both Evergreen and Koha. We are a k-12 school district in Michigan. The main factors in deciding on Koha were: 1. The ease of installation. 2. LDAP integration. 3. "true" web based system (no staff client necessary). 4. Friendly (easy to use) interface. 5. Price :-) 6. The Koha community seemed to be much "friendlier" than Evergreen. (Just my opinion.....I'm sure there a many very nice people in the Evergreen community as well....) Regarding #1 ... I'm no *nix power-user...but have used different flavors on/off for a number of years......after 3-4 attempts I was unable to get a "real" working Evergreen system. At the time the Perl dependancy chase for Evergreen was just to much of a pain.....I tapped out..... Koha....I ran our initial system (ver 2.2.9) on a windows XP virtual machine.....ran perfect for over a year as we "kicked the tires" of Koha. I now run the latest git version on Debian....works great. Good "how to's" and documentation..... Regarding #2...as a public school....LDAP integration was an absolute must. Why Koha?

Hello, group. My system is currently evaluating both Koha and Evergreen as our open source alternatives. We are installing both on computers here in our library in order to test them out, visiting other libraries, reading this list as well as the one for Evergreen, and speaking to other librarians using one of these systems. It occurred to me that it might useful to know why other library system chose one system over the other. So, why did you choose Koha over Evergreen, and are you happy with your choice? Was it a difficult decision? I have to say that I'm presently more impressed with Koha, but haven't taken quite as close a look at Evergreen. I'm also very impressed with the knowledge and helpfulness of this community, a huge selling point for me personally. You may write to me off-list if you are more comfortable with that. library "categories" (=groups)?

>From the web installer's Step 3 screen: A few sample libraries, and library categories, including examples of the hardcoded types, CU, IS, PE. (sample_libraries) I've looked through the table structures immediately following the install, and although I do find the sample libraries, I don't see any such categories. Any clarification as to what "library categories" are would be appreciated; I'm guessing the term's been replaced with library "groups". If so, there aren't any sample groups imported during the install, and if all this is true I'd suggest this install screen text be corrected. Moving on to documentation issues, the section on libraries and groups here http://koha-community.org/documentation/3-2-manual/?ch=x3670#AEN3676 isn't clear on what the "properties" type of group could be used for. My understanding from googling is that there isn't any such use coded in Koha itself, but (I'm speculating here) it should be possible to use them as SELECT criteria for custom reports. If the above is true, perhaps a statement similar to the preceding sentence would be worth adding to the docs. I realize this is an outdated site, but this particular page does have some useful information that isn't in the official one: http://koha.org/documentation/manual/3.2/administration/basic-parameters/li… Please let me know if there is a more suitable location/method for posting these types of suggestion.

Koha Documentation Reminder

Hello all, Just a friendly reminder that the Koha manuals (3.2 and 3.4) are open source just like Koha! You can download the code from git (http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=kohadocs.git;a=summary) and contribute at any time. We are still in need of more translations (and a complete French translation). The 3.2 manual is available in English and Spanish and partially in French (http://koha-community.org/documentation/) The 3.4 manual is a work in progress (as is 3.4). If you have a patch for any of the manuals, or want to submit a translated version, simply subscribe to the Koha Docs (https://lists.koha-community.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/koha-docs) list and send your patches there.
