All, Can someone suggest how to best make opac-reserve.pl default to "Request Specific"? We are on 3.4.1 and using the patch for bug 6347. Walkthrough: Using OPACMySummaryHTML to share on Facebook (etcetera)
by Viktor.Sarge＠regionhalland.se 10 Jun '11

10 Jun '11

Dear community! Since we commissioned the work to create the system preference OPACMySummaryHTML I feel that it might be appropriate to share some knowledge of the details. This preference lets you add a column of custom HTML to "My summary" that can be used to for example share the OPAC-page for each book on Facebook. Four variables are available for use: {AUTHOR}, {TITLE}, {ISBN} and {BIBLIONUMBER} and Koha replaces these with the proper value when rendering the page. The following code creates a simple text-link to share on Facebook. <a href="http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=http://www.YOUR-KOHA-OPAC-HERE.com/cgi-…">Share on Facebook</a> You'd need to insert your own OPAC url of course, but otherwise it should be fine to use. Should you wonder how to activate this function then this is what you need to do: 1) Log in to the staff interface and click "System preferences". You may need help from an administrator if you don't have access to the system preferences. 2) Search the preferences for "mysummaryhtml" and click the link "Click to edit". It can also be found in the "Appearance"-section of the OPAC-tab in the preferences. 3) Paste the code above, change the URL to the one you use for your OPAC and save. There are of course many potential uses so feel free to share examples should you do something fun with it :) The function is included in Koha from version 3.4 and I'd like to give credit to Magnus Enger of Libriotech in Norway for doing the actual development. XEN Virtualization
by Peter Lorimer 10 Jun '11

10 Jun '11

Hi Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I have a server using Xen and one using virtuozzo with the same supplier. I also have an EC2 instance that uses xen hypervisor. I have a Koha distro on the Xen server and I'm getting huge performance issues especially regarding mysql server hits. The file moremember.pl causes the cpu to go up to 100% and at the same time mysql starts to use 50% memory. I then see two 404.plprocesses just before the page eventually loads. Takes 30 secs just to load details of one patron. However if I port the same koha implementation to the only server not using xen virtualisation, the virtuozzo one, the problem vanished and page loads are 2 or three secs with no noticable cpu spikes. Has anyone ever came across similar issues with Xen virtualisation?

Cannot search Authority
by Piotr Kowalski 10 Jun '11

10 Jun '11

I have just installed Koha 3.2.9 from Debian package Koha-common and now trying it. Authorities searching doesn't work in any context, the result is always: no results found. Explanation: - authorities records (Person Name) were added manually and saved; are visible in the database table auth_header - rebuild_zebra script were triggered manually with parameters: -a -v (verbose mode); it works well with no errors, always inserts or updates the adequate number of records - bibliographic records are searchable in a normal way Any help is welcome. Best regards, Piotr Kowalski GWSH Poland

Search : Acquisition Date: Newest to Oldest
by Madhura Deodhar IES Library 10 Jun '11

10 Jun '11

Dear Koha users, In search option, * Acquisition Date: newest to oldest* option doesn't show the newly added books at the top. But, previously i used to get the results with same option. If I search for a particular item with particular Item Type, and I narrow down the search by Acquisition Date : Newest to oldest, then it shows the data as per the desire. Kindly advise me on the matter. -- *Regards,* ** *Ms. Madhura M.Deodhar* *Librarian *IES Management College and Research Centre 61378327(direct) http://iesmglib.blogspot.com *P **Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail.* * *

Brand new koha installation
by libhunter 10 Jun '11

10 Jun '11

Hi all, First of all, I would like to say I am a complete beginner on these forums and also with koha itself. I have been tasked with setting up a brand new koha installation. I am wondering what is the best way to migrate my data from an in-house custom database to the newly installed koha application. I was thinking to export from the databse, to MARC format and do a bulk import of the records. I was also considering just running the import off the ISBN numbers and performing some data cleansing by looking up the MARC details using some cataloging service. Maybe I am being naive. I would appreciate any helpful direction in order to set me off on the correct path from the outset. Many thanks, Robert -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Brand-new-koha-installation-tp4473428p447… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Lost and Billed problem
by Katie Aust 10 Jun '11

10 Jun '11

Hi everyone, I am at a school district and the media specialists would like a way to bill the replacement cost for an item when it is overdue for 30 days but still have those items checked out to the patrons. Is it possible to have an item with the status lost and billed but still be checked out to the patron? Thank you for your help, -- *Katie Aust* Library Technician New Haven Unified School District (510) 471-1100 ext 60437
