Our Koha Update Steps

We recently updated from 3.0 to 3.2 and we are testing a 3.4 installation. Here are the steps we used to complete the update: 1. Restore data from most recent mysqldump: 30 to 40 minutes Employ the drop table list for koha_pro to batch drop individual tables, or DROP DATABASE koha_pro ; CREATE DATABASE koha_pro ; koha_pro< [path to/] kohamainbakup.sql 2. Run update script to conform database: 20 to 20 minutes installer/data/mysql/updatedatabase.pl 3. [Koha 3.4 UPDATE REQUIRES, not neccessary for earlier version updates!!!] Run data cleanup: misc/maintenance/remove_items_from_biblioitems.pl 4. Modify the zebra configuration to allow enough memory to process MARC xml: koha/koha-dev/etc/zebradb/zebra-biblios.cfg change lines /var/lib/zebradb/biblios/register:4G to 40G var/lib/zebradb/biblios/shadow:4G to 40G (we also raised the RAM allocation from 50M to 120M) 5. Rebuild Zebra indexing. A. Run as koha user, not as root - requires ./ to run script, perl directory is kohaclone. B. [To prevent cronjob conflict, disable cronjobs, create donotindex folder, or run from crontab. Remember to re-enable these on the working server, so that future item changes may be indexed for search.] ./kohaclone/misc/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -x -r [Add a -v for verbose output] ./kohaclone/misc/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -a -r [Add a -v for verbose output] [Note: The -x rebuilds the xml for the MARC record.] If index does not rebuild correctly, run an additional rebuild_zebra.pl -b to restore the index. Check that items are barcode scanning properly. [Our cronjobs index with the -z switch (only updates selected zebraqueue records), instead of the -x -r, which takes longer, however -z only re-indexes items in the zebraqueue!] 6. Copy over staffglobal.css changes, if customized: /kohaclone/koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/prog/en/css/staff-global.css 7. Copy over custom page templates - for example, Acqui template (acqui-home.tmpl) changes: /kohaclone/koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/acqui/acqui-home.tmpl 8. Copy over koha.pm patch, enables status "Available" when item status list is customized (e.g."MENDING"). /kohaclone/C4/koha.pm (removes "$selected &&" [line 1006 in the koha.pm from v3.2]) 9. Copy modified staff client login logo to /kohaclone/koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/prog/img/koha-logo-medium.gif 10. IP addressing: Either 1. New server takes IP address from old server, or 2. Firewall settings need to be adjusted for new server IP address. Apache and MySQL configuration may need to be adjusted in /etc: mysql/bind.cnf, hosts, apache2/koha [Port configuration in koha-conf may need to be adjusted] 11. Update Koha Extras [Applies only to external php custom-script servers hosting kohaextras3] IP address problem: Scripts on the php server are directed to the IP address of the older version of Koha. Either the scripts must be adjusted (search and replace) or the new Koha must take the IP of the old Koha. 12. Lock down security; harden the web server: Restrict access to root account. Limit access to GUI, restrict access to command-line-only. Harden Apache configuration. mandatory & default value ignored when adding items

Hi all, I just noticed yesterday on an install (from git, on debian squeeze) of 3.4 that when I add an item not only does it ignore the "hidden" property (bug 6439: http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=6439) but it also ignores the default values that I've set for some fields as well as the "mandatory" setting. Am I missing something in the configuration, is it a bug, or is it just me? Cheers! Automatic issue slip from hp printer

hi community koha 3.4.1 is installed on server of ubuntu linux lts at server room of my organization and we access it from our windows clients. i want to print automatic issuance and return slip at every chek in and check out transaction. similarly i have put one computer for self check out and i want to print an automatic receipt. i have an hp network printer installed on both computers. how i can do this? note i m new to linux and work on windows environment -- Regards Abdul Vali Librarian - ASE School

A Problem

Dear Koha community I have recently started to examine Koha and immediatelly face a couple of problems. Firstly, I try to place a hold on an item the Koha prevents me of ding it and displays a message, namely Cannot Place Hold Too Many Holds: Haik Zargarian has too many holds. No copies are available to be placed on hold In fact, Haik Zargarian (fictive patron) has no holds on his account and there are sevreal available items for this record. Secondly, when I import a Marc-record in Koha it does not show the authors name and simply ignores the fact, that I have properly indicated the data in the "Personal name" section of this field 100 ? - MAIN ENTRY--PERSONAL NAME −. Furthermore, when I access an existing record Koha diplays its author's name. However, when I enter the "Edit" section and save the record without changing even a letter, the author's name evaporates and I see a data like this Additional Authors: Williams, Richard S., Iceland--Orkustofnun Series: U. Newbie problem, Makefile error

Hi, y'all. I'm installing (or trying to) on Solaris 10. I consider it a miracle that I've made this much progress. :-) I'm a newbie to Koha, not to systems. I've downloaded and unpacked koha-3.04.01.tar.gz. The perl modules are all installed with the exception of Graphics Magic and DBD::SQLite2. My makefile (perl Makefile.PL) is bombing with: "Could not open 'kohaversion.pl': No such file or directory at /opt/csw/share/perl/5.10.1/ExtUtils/MM_Unix.pm line 2631" I've searched the Koha sites and googled, but haven't found a solution to this one. installing spanish language in koha 3.4.1

Hello, I have koha 3.4.1 installed in a linode vps with ubuntu 10.04 lts. Yesterday I tried to install the spanish language with some instructions I found in the koha wiki. I was in the folder ../../misc/translator and I wrote the command perl translate install es-ES but I got this in return: Can't locate C4/Context.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.1 /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.10 /usr/share/perl/5.10 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at LangInstaller.pm line 23.
