Import items not importing items
by WTC 09 Nov '11

09 Nov '11

Hello I've just tried to import a couple of batches of items but they haven't imported. I've created MARC records with MarcEdit. I staged them for import. I looked for existing records based on ISBN (020$a) and Ignore incoming record if matching biblio found). I chose Yes to check for embedded items. I selected Always add items. Clicked on stage for import. The message was: 29 records in file 0 records not staged ... 29 records staged 29 records with at least one match ... 29 item records found and staged Clicked on Manage Staged Records All 29 items were auto_matched I clicked on Import this batch into the catalog The message was Completed import of records Number of records added 0 Number of records updated 0 Number of records ignored 29 Number of items added 29 Number of items ignored 0 Now normally when I do this there is a delay of a few minutes before the items are visibile in the catalogue, but these 29 items aren't showing at all. When I look at the record for an item it doesn't show the items that I just imported. I've done this procedure many times, and it has always worked. Any ideas on what may have gone wrong? Unblock User
by anjoze 09 Nov '11

Hi list, Is there a way to "unblock" a Patron? My Library works with suspensions in days. The problem is that some times for some reasons we need to forgive that suspension. If its not possible, can I do it directly on the database? What is the flag/tablename? Thank you very much, JA Koha Version: 3.02.10 -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Unblock-User-tp4949411p4949411.html Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Re: [Koha] Branches and circulation rules
by Fischer, Katrin 09 Nov '11

Ann, I am forwarding your questions to the mailing list. I am not sure you can do what you want to do with Koha – perhaps someone else has some ideas and can help you. Regards, Katrin From: library [mailto:library@katikaticollege.school.nz] Sent: Wednesday, November 09, 2011 12:30 AM To: Fischer, Katrin Subject: Re: [Koha] Branches and circulation rules Thankyou for your help. Basically I want to be able to block patrons from issuing more books but allow them to get equipment. There are not separate permissions for different item types as far as I can see. I also need to isolate the book issuing/renewing/returning from the students and teachers who will be issuing the laptops. Regards Ann Murphy On Wed, Nov 9, 2011 at 10:52 AM, Fischer, Katrin <Katrin.Fischer(a)bsz-bw.de> wrote: Hi, some of my libraries use a separate itemtpye 'multimedia equipment' for lending laptops and cameras. With a separate itemtype you can set up rules for patron category/itemtype combinations, which works quite well. I am not sure if using a separate branch gives you a real advantage. You can do separate things for overdues in Koha, so I am not sure where your problem is located. You can block the patron from different actions (renewal, checkout, placing holds) using system preferences (OPACFineNoRenewals, noissuescharge, maxoutstanding) and a fine amount. You can also debar patrons with sending out overdue notices (tools > overdue notice/status triggers). The number of overdue books does not influence the checkout, onle the fine amounts and time span since the books got overdue can. Those blocks will take effect system wide, so a separate branch will not make a difference. You can also check the manual for more information about fines and setting up circulation rules: http://koha-community.org/documentation/ Hope that helps a bit. -- Katrin -----Original Message----- From: koha-bounces(a)lists.katipo.co.nz on behalf of library Sent: Tue 08.11.2011 21:57 To: koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz Subject: [Koha] Branches and circulation rules Tena koutou We are struggling to understand the way individual branches work. We would like to create an independent branch to issue laptops to students (and departmental resources later) which will not be affected by how many library books students have overdue. I have tried setting circulation rules in the laptop issues branch to be completely different to those in our library but this has not worked. Are we able to define differing borrow rules for the same patron at different libraries. Could someone direct me to more complete instructions on how the overdues systems work or how circulation rules work. We are still using 3.2 but will be migrating to 3.6 in the New Year. Koha and Third-Party commercial services
by Ian Walls 09 Nov '11

09 Nov '11

Dear Community, In the last few months, I've seen more and more interest in developing Koha support for integration with third-party commercial services. These services usually require some kind of special coding to achieve that integration, instead of using a global standard for data transmission. To be fair, I think this is often because there IS NO global standard for the kind of data they want to transmit. But I'm still wary of this. All the external services we have now (Amazon, Babelthèque, Baker and Taylor, Google, Library Thing, Novelist Select, OCLC, Open Library, and Syndetics) are very self-contained; they have system preferences which just control whether or not a block of HTML/Javascript API code gets put into the template. This is pretty benign; it's template code and some database data (nothing structural), and can be completely disabled if the preferences are turned off. This seems like good integration to me. But other services require something a bit more heavy-weight. Things that would involve writing a fair block of Perl code, or altering Koha's data structure to store a new kind of information (new table columns or tables, instead of just entries in existing tables). Changes like this concern me, particularly if the service requires a subscription, is geographically-limited or has closed licensure. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid, but it seems that if we start letting these external services influence the development of Koha, we could eventually wind up with an ILS that is no longer in the interest of the global community. Am I being crazy? Is this a valid issue? Are the advantages of being able to talk to more external products greater than the risks of a few specific company's products getting hardcoded into our ILS? Thanks for any feedback you can provide, -Ian

Resistance to Acquisitions
by Buster 08 Nov '11

08 Nov '11

Hi. We are just in the process of migrating from Dinosaur Dynix to Koha, thanks to ByWater Solutions. An acquisition module is not a part of our old system. Nicole Engard is in town training us and went over acquisitions today. There is a surprising (to me) amount of resistance toward using Koha's acquisition. They seem like they would rather continue the way things are with spreadsheets and such. Which got me wondering... How common is this? I mean, how many of you folks out there among public libraries do NOT use Koha Acquisitions? If not, why not? If you do use it, why? Just curious mostly, but also I would like to have something from other libraries to share with my colleagues, pro or con. Thanks in advance. Jim Maroon

acquisition error module
by Massimo Plevani 08 Nov '11

Thanks for your help. I was able to list older vendor. I found one more problem. When I try to search for a vendor I see the following message: Can't use an undefined value as a HASH reference at /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/acqui/booksellers.pl line 114. I run the query suggested on this main list: mysql> SELECT basketno FROM aqbasket LEFT JOIN borrowers ON (borrowernumber) WHERE borrowers.borrowernumber IS NULL;Empty set (0.00 sec) How can I fix this problem? Thanks for your help. Massimo Plevani
