Koha in a Norwegian Library School by Magnus Enger The library program at the Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (http://www.hioa.no/eng/) is now offering personal Koha installations to all first and second year students – a total of about 225 students. Installations will be used during the whole of the education, including for mandatory assignments in cataloging. The installations utilize the Debian packages, and the university college is handling all hosting and installation in-house. Koha OPAC Web App by Stefano Bargioni I’ve created a Koha OPAC for smartphones and tablets. It is located at http://catalogo.pusc.it/mobile/ and can be accessed not only from smartphones but also from desktop PCs using any modern browser. It is a very simple OPAC interface, up to now. Based on jQuery Mobile, it accesses Koha using its SRU server. So it is not an app, nor a set of CSS that adapt Koha web pages to little screens. It is a web app, if I may say so. Past Koha Events Koha 3.6.0 Released During Access2011 Conference by Chris Cormack Last Thursday 20th October I gave a talk at Access2011: The Library is Open in Vancouver titled Tātou tātou: Caring and sharing in a Free and Open source Project. The talk focused on lessons learned by the Koha community that would be of interest to other emerging open source software communities. It was particularly appropriate to the international nature of the Koha community that a kiwi guy could write the release notes, push patches and release Koha 3.6.0 while away in Vancouver. As many of you know Koha 3.6.0 was a major and very satisfying release to be part of. With 85 enhancements and 356 bugfixes Koha 3.6.0 included 728 patches from 60 developers. You can find out who those developers were and what they contributed here. The release notes are published here. Problem with entering Personall Name

I am currently entering manually Biblio records using MARC 21 Format in Koha Live CD version 3.02.00.04 but I cannot type in anything in tag 100 subfield $a which suposed to be Personal name field since the text area is like "prohibited" from typing in. So we used subfield $b which accepts being typed in but it is for something else. Hence we are getting null information on Author when we query on author field in SQL reports. So how is Personal name entered using MARC 21 Cataloguing? Thanking you in anticipation. Raphael Chisanga Muonga

Record matching for biblios without ISBN or ISSN

Ours is a rather quirky collection, I know. But an awful lot of it doesn't have an ISBN or ISSN (1364 biblios in a collection of 1664 fall into this category). I am working on a project to batch change all the biblios in a particular collection. Selecting them, downloading them, and editing the MARC records was easy. Now I would like to upload them and overwrite the old records. This only seems possible for the 300 biblios with an ISBN. We have unique internal control numbers (001). Is there any way I can match the records with this field instead? Best way to import marc files

I have several marc files that I need to import to Koha. What is the best way to do this? I would also like to have Koha automatically add one item for each bibliographic record in these marc files. The marc files contain only one type of items each (i.e. cd's, dvd's, books and so on are in separate files). Upgrade reports from 3.0 to 3.2.10

My problem is related to koha permissions. I doubt anyone has delt with this situation, so I'll try to explain the problem. I recently took over the support of the koha system that takes care of all the schools for my province. We are using koha 3.0 that has customizations. Because of these customizations we are not able to upgrade right now to the latest 3.6 version of koha. We are just now starting to take advantage of koha reports. Koha 3.2 introduced 'runtime parameters'. We need this feature but it didn't exist in 3.0. My plan is to 'overwrite' the reports files in my system with the reports from version 3.2.10. Note: I'd like to use the reports from 3.4.5 however version 3.4 koha introduced Template::Toolkit. Version 3.0 used HTML::Template::Pro, so grabbing files from version 3.4+ caused additional problems. With all that said, I have successfully moved over a number of report files from 3.2.10 to my old 3.0 project. It now had the ability to do 'runtime parameters'. When I set up a patrons permissions, if I give them access to 'create' and 'execute' reports then everything works perfect. However, if they only have access to one permission 'create' or 'execute' then the moment I click 'used saved' then the user is booted out of the system with: 'Error: Unauthorized user click to log out' Does anyone know what file I may also need to update? Hi, I have tried to configure koha and succesfully used it by only using an ip address to reach it. now i have tried to link a domain to it as well but i get the following error: a) if i surf to the ip address: everything works as expected b) if i surf to the domainname i tried to attach to it (i have altered the koha-httpd.conf file) i get the maintenance page (cgi-bin/koha/maintenance.pl) . any hints welcome! thanks, Klaas

Is top showing that you really are using the 4 CPUs available? Pressing the numeral 1 will toggle multiple CPU lines in top. To display the CPU a program is running on first press 'f' then 'J' to add the CPU in use column (P) to top's display. What is your load average? Does 'uname -a' show that you're running the SMP version of Debian? When I search from the initial koha page it takes ~4 seconds to find this item. Then once the item has loaded if I click one of the links for a searchable item (author, details, etc.) it takes ~4-5 seconds for it to load. When I open all of these options at the same time in new tabs it takes forever. It seems to be an almost linear increase in the time it takes for the searches to complete. Also, each new tab running a different search will continue to run until one has finished, then once one has finished another will go. This process is ~4 seconds for each search. Seems like all searches are in a very slow queue. So for this example book I have in the system there are 7 items that are searchable. If I go through and open each in a separate tab the total process for all of this is 30+seconds. I tried running a webserver load test with just 10 users clicking on a different link each time the new page loaded and it failed horribly with an average page load wait of 50 seconds I really don’t know where to go to look for what’s causing this. When I use the “browse by author or subject search”, the authority search results page comes back in less than 2 seconds. Though it does show 0 biblios records (no clue what that is) I’ve gone through many example sites found here: http://www.liblime.com/demos And they don’t seem to have this same issue. Any help. Thought, direction would be greatly appreciated!
