No items attached to imported records
by sheldon_tappin 18 Nov '11

Hi All, I'm trying to merge two libraries together. All parameters and library information are set for both libraries. When the imported were complete we found: - They don't have any items attached to the records. The above implies that books cannot be borrowed. I checked the database, it shows that biblio, biblioitems and items tables have records. So, can anyone please explain to me why the records do not have items attached. And what can I do to correct the problem that we are experiencing. Request for Koha data for development
by Chris Nighswonger 18 Nov '11

18 Nov '11

A common problem among those of us who do development work on Koha is the lack of complete datasets for the development and testing of features. This is probably more of a problem for those of us who do not support a large variety of organizations running Koha. I would like to see some good, sanitized datasets available for development and testing. Several of us have plead for this for years. Just now, the lack of a good dataset including a sizable number of serials is preventing me from doing some testing and development on DataTables integration work which has been started by Biblibre. So, this is a request to all of you libraries out there with small, medium, and large datasets who would be willing to contribute sanitized data for development purposes, to do so. It would be a great way to give back to the community that has provided such a wonderful product with all of its attendant benefits. Kind Regards, Chris Nighswonger Koha 3.4/3.6 Release Maintainer

Language Switch
by Anousak Souphavanh 18 Nov '11

Dear all, I was wondering how one can change the user interface. I figured there is an option that we can just switch once we added two PO files (the one we translating off-line). But I could not that option anwhere under Adnistrator screen nor OPAC one. If not, maybe it's wish-list that we can add for the next release. Please suggest if you already done so.. Thank you. -- Anousak (Anthony) Souphavanh "Small can make a big impact"

"Not for loan" items and "Unavailable"
by Niall ODriscoll 18 Nov '11

18 Nov '11

Hi we'd be interesting to hear how other libraries using Koha deal with the display of items marked "not for loan". If you give an item the status of "not for loan" in the item record (items.notforloan = 1) the display in the OPAC is "No items available" (in red), the same as if all items are on loan. However we think this is possibly a bit confronting for our users when what we're trying to say is that the item is *available* - but only within the library. However if you get rid of the not for loan status and rely on, say, a public note, there is no flag at checkout that the item is not meant for loan. I know this can also be controlled using item types - our Reference and Rare Books item types display as "Available" on the OPAC, but present a flag if you attempt to loan them out. However there are many items that we would like to make not for loan that don't neatly fit into a particular item type (eg. second copies of some reports, etc.), and which we'd like to keep as part of one of the other item types for reporting purposes. Any feedback gratefully received. Niall Niall O'Driscoll | Assistant Manager, Information Resources (Acting) | NSW Parliamentary Library | niall.odriscoll(a)parliament.nsw.gov.au | ph. 02 9230 2481

We created a word doc. in which we scanned the barcodes of one section. We uploaded this to the Stocktake section and filled in and ticked what we thought as the explanation in the Online Documents is sketchy in this area. When we submit we get gobbly gook i.e. symbols and the words barcode not found Any ideas Sandra -- Mrs Sandra Busutel Director of Information Services St Peter's Anglican Primary School Howe St Campbelltown 2560 Email:sbusutel@stpeters.nsw.edu.au PH 02 4627 2990 Fax 02 4627 4789 -- Mrs Sandra Busutel Director of Information Services St Peter's Anglican Primary School Howe St Campbelltown 2560 Email:sbusutel@stpeters.nsw.edu.au PH 02 4627 2990 Fax 02 4627 4789

Re: [Koha] "Not for loan" items and "Unavailable"

I setup ITEMS like: Libro (Reference, General stacks, other colecctions, etc.) VHS Tesis etc. In the ITEM type LIBRO group Reference books, Monographs, and all printed colecctions. In Authorized values define CCODE like AG (Acervo general), C (Consulta o referencia), etc. And finally in the add ITEM info (Library, Colecction, Copy number, barcodes, etc.) I select "Not for loan" for books that not circulate. Works fine for me. The "Not available" tags refers to title with no ITEMS. Items in offsite storage
by Dianna Roberts 17 Nov '11

17 Nov '11

If any libraries have documents in offsite storage I'd like to know how you use Koha to indicate their location at the storage facility, i.e. box number etc., to identify items for retrieval if and when required. I'm particularly interested in how to deal with individual issues of serials. The company I've been talking to add their own barcodes which could mean having two barcodes per item, ours and theirs.
