Koha routing list or routing slip question
by Hartman, David W. - GBTS Library 23 Nov '11

23 Nov '11

Hello! I am using the serials module for Koha and was wondering how to change the default wording "Please return this item...." for the note on the routing slip. It currently reads: "Notes: Please return this item promptly as others are waiting for it." Is there a way to remove this? I can add to this note but this phrase "Please return this item......" seems to be hardcoded and unable to edit/remove. I'd like to remove that wording. David W. Reading history concerns and opinions
by David Schuster 23 Nov '11

23 Nov '11

This is a library question on policy and just curious how others are handling it. Reading history can be maintained in Koha - I understand that, and as a policy we protect individuals freedom to read what they want. As a School district - we often get the request from teachers and parents "I need a list of what Susie has read this semester"... Currently we have not been providing access to even the students so it is easy for us to say "Sorry we don't keep that information"... I know we could say "Sorry that is private student information and I can't share it", Teachers could probably be thwarted with that, but not so much Parents... Then the whole "FBI" coming for reading history is another issue... As we build these features that allow "staring" and "if you read X you might enjoy Y" or "people who read X also read Y" - what is our best avenue for defending our clients reading history, yet making these features available to them. Just pondering... -- David Schuster Plano ISD Library Technology Coordinator

Creating New local fields in 952 tags
by R Sunil Kumar 23 Nov '11

23 Nov '11

Dear All, We like to create some local holding information for a library. We do not want to modify and use already existing 952 tags (0-9 and a-z) as most of the tags is already used. Can anybody suggest us how to create local fields in Koha especially in MARC local holding 952 series? zebra indexing
by schnydszch 23 Nov '11

Good day koha users, I installed DSpace and Koha LiveCD. I imported the sql of my records from a previous koha installed (with almost 45000 records). I am trying this one out because it has integrated dspace into koha, but i can't seem to work out zebra indexing. I can't search my system for bibliographic records when i'm on zebra, if nozebra, I can. I tried everything that I've read on my problem googling it but can't seem to work it out. I've tried -b -w, -b -r -v, -b -a, -x -b and everything else. Below is using -x -b: 14:47:40-23/11 zebraidx(3051) [warn] Index 'Record-control-number' not found in attset(s) 14:47:40-23/11 zebraidx(3051) [warn] Index 'Record-control-number' not found in Multiple Libraries making Items Unavail. /SQL Needed
by Katrina Dikkers 23 Nov '11

We are having a hard time making sure that we are in the correct branch when checking in/checking out items in Koha 3.4, and have made many items unavailable or in transit. Is there a place we can set the library for certain users, so it does not have to be manually set everyday? Also, does anyone have an SQL for selecting all the items that are not unavailable or in transit? Can't find one on Koha Wiki SQL Library. Putting aside the issue of whether we should fight this fight or not, the sale of the domain to Liblime has nothing to do with whether PTFS should own a trademark on the term Koha in New Zealand. Owning a domain name does not give you a trademark on that term. We were naive to let Liblime get a US trademark on Koha in the first place. memcached documentation
by Tom Hanstra 22 Nov '11

Where can I find additional documentation on the use of memcached? I see it is an option on the software install and I've been encouraged to use it, but I don't find much in the line of documentation on how to use it. Re: [Koha] Import Authorities Data
by Stefano Bargioni 22 Nov '11

Hi, Tiago: this was my experience during migration from non-Koha to Koha 3.2. In Koha, manually add some auth records, at least one for each type of auth you are going to import. Look at created records in table auth_header. Use each auth_header.marcxml as a model for a (perl) script to tail marcxml records with your data (name;cutter;dates). A model for PERSO_NAME (replace *...* with your data) could be: <record> <leader>00000nz a2200133n 4500</leader> <controlfield tag="003">*YOUR LIBRARY CODE*</controlfield> <controlfield tag="005">*CURRENT TIMESTAMP like 20101125120000.0*</controlfield> <controlfield tag="008">*YYMMDD*n||a|nnnaabn || aad |d</controlfield> <datafield tag="040" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">*YOUR LIBRARY CODE*</subfield> <subfield code="c">*YOUR LIBRARY CODE*</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="100" ind1="0" ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">*SURNAME, NAME*</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="400" ind1="0" ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">*USED FOR/SEE FROM*</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="942" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">PERSO_NAME</subfield> </datafield> </record> At begin of file insert: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <collection xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.loc.gov/MARC21/slim http://www.loc.gov/standards/marcxml/schema/MARC21slim.xsd" xmlns="http://www.loc.gov/MARC21/slim"> and append at end of file </collection> Then import the created xml file using bulkmarcimport.pl -a -m marcxml -file your_authorities.xml and link them to your biblios with link_bibs_to_authorities.pl HTH.
