3.6.x String Freeze [WAS: 3.6.3 Update]
by Chris Nighswonger 18 Jan '12

18 Jan '12

Ok, in spite of my worst fears, the issues mentioned below have been resolved and the 3.6.x branch is now in a string freeze. I'm planning to release on 25 Jan 2012, giving the translators a week to update translations. See you in a week! :-) Kind Regards, Chris Koha 3.4.x/3.6.x Release Maintainer On Tue, Jan 17, 2012 at 10:50 PM, Chris Nighswonger < cnighswonger(a)foundations.edu> wrote: > Hi all, > > Just an update here on the status of 3.6.3. > > My schedule has been extremely busy since I returned to work the first of > the month. Problem when removing subfield in biblio editor
by Marcel de Rooy 18 Jan '12

18 Jan '12

Hi, Does anyone of you recognize this (rather serious) problem. If I have a field say 710 with $4 relator code followed by $9 authid and $a name, and I clear the $4 with Delete this subfield and save the record, I also loose the other subfields!! This does not happen when the subfield order is different like $9 $a $4 and clearing $4. Came across old Bugzilla reports 3264 and 5707 but they seem to focus on authorities editor. This problem above is in the biblio editor. Any comments welcome, Marcel

Stop SOPA web page looping back to itself
by amutsikiwa 18 Jan '12

18 Jan '12

I am trying to access http://koha-community.org/ , which is been redirected to http://koha-community.org/stop-sopa/. Which is fine. However, when you click on the Continue to site <http://koha-community.org/> link, which I think should take you to the usual website, it is redirecting you back to the Stop-sopa page. There is some information I want on our usual website Kind Regards, Admire Mutsikiwa ICT Projects Manager Library IT University of Zimbabwe Tel:+263-4-303276 Cel:+263-772-239187

3.6.3 Update
by Chris Nighswonger 18 Jan '12

18 Jan '12

Hi all, Just an update here on the status of 3.6.3. My schedule has been extremely busy since I returned to work the first of the month. As a result, I have been working in fits and starts to get commits picked out of master and into 3.6.x in preparation for the release of 3.6.3. After finally getting several hours today devoted to the work, I have royally screwed up my local maintenance branch from which I push to the main repo. As those who eat and drink git know, this is not a fatal disaster, but it is certainly one which will now require another large block of time to correct: a resource I am sadly short on at the moment. Long story short: 3.6.3 will not be released on time this month. Very likely it will be near the end of the month before I can get things sorted out and announce a string freeze for the translators. This pushes the release into the second week of February. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the delay. Kind Regards, Chris Koha 3.4.x/3.6.x Release Maintainer

US-Centric question - SOPA/PIPA protest blackout on k-c.org tomorrow (US time)?
by Liz Rea 18 Jan '12

18 Jan '12

It would be easy to participate in the SOPA/PIPA web blackout protest tomorrow on koha-community.org, should we? Good idea? Bad idea? Do note, I don't intend for this thread to become a political debate - I just want to know if there is any corpus of support for participating in the blackout with one of our web properties. Fwd: FOSS4LIB registry now open for new packages/releases/providers/events/institutions
by Cab Vinton 17 Jan '12

17 Jan '12

Thought this might be of wider interest to the Koha community. Cheers, Cab Vinton, Director Sanbornton Public Library Sanbornton, NH ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Peter Murray <peter.murray(a)lyrasis.org> Date: Tue, Jan 17, 2012 at 3:39 PM Subject: FOSS4LIB registry now open for new packages/releases/providers/events/institutions To: CODE4LIB(a)listserv.nd.edu All -- The project that I was seeking feedback on over the fall is seeing the light of day. http://foss4lib.org/ is now open for use by the community. For the Code4Lib audience, this mostly means you can create an account, log in, and create content nodes for specific packages, releases, and events. See http://foss4lib.org/content/adding-information-foss4lib for links on how to get started. For people or organizations that provide support for open source software in libraries -- implementation consulting, hosting, custom code development, training, etc. -- we especially want to encourage you to sign up and post your availability on the site. One of the overarching goals is to promote an ecosystem of open source support providers for packages that are specific to libraries. So we want to make this registry a better place to go to find those support options over a scattershot Google search. Please note that there is one bit of functionality in the registry that is not done right now. Some software packages have well developed lists of providers and institutions that use the software, and we're not trying to reproduce those in the registry. There is a capability coming that will allow URLs to these community lists to override the provider/using-institution functionality of the registry. More on that soon. Speaking of additional functionality, I am very interested in hearing ideas about how the registry can advance the goal of supporting open source software in libraries. If you have any, feel free to discuss them here or send me a direct e-mail. A press release about FOSS4LIB will be going out in the next couple of hours, and it will include information about one-hour introductory sessions at Midwinter and webinars later in January and February. Here's the instructions: Go to http://foss4lib.org/user/register and create an account for yourself. The pattern for usernames is recommended to be your first and last name, but you can make it anything you want. You'll receive an e-mail with a one-time password to follow and set your password. Then browse (http://foss4lib.org/packages) or search (http://foss4lib.org/search/node) for your target software package(s). If you see it/them, great! -- move onto the next step. If not, follow "Add content -> package" (http://foss4lib.org/node/add/package) to create it. Put in the common name (no release numbers) for your package as its title and some descriptive chunk of text for the body. Below this is a series of technology choices that you can make. In the case of Package Type, License, and Development Status you can pick one of the choices. For Operating System, Technologies Used, Programming Language, and Database you can pick more than one (using Command-Click or Control-Click, depending on your operating system). For anything in this Technology area, if there are terms that you need that aren't listed let me know and I'll add them. Below Technology is Links, and you can fill in any URLs that you know/have for this package. Below that is an Associations sect! ion where you can link this package to other packages in the system. (See the DSpace entry, for instance -- http://foss4lib.org/package/dspace -- on how it is associated with Djatoka.) Now hit "Save" (or hit "Preview" then "Save") your package and go onto the next step. As appropriate, create a Provider for your company/organization/self (http://foss4lib.org/node/add/provider) Put in the title and description. Then in the "Supports" section, pick one or more choices for "Provider Type". (If you provide services other than the ones listed here, let me know and I'll add them to the list.) In the Package field start typing the name of the package until it pops up in the auto-complete drop-down and select it there. (When you do so, you'll see the package name appended with "[nid:x]" representing the node ID.) You can mix-and-match your Provider Type and Packages by selecting "Add Another Item". In the Employees Registered section, you can add people registered on FOSS4LIB (including yourself) that will appear as associated with your firm. Below that add arbitrary URLs (such as to your homepage, client list, contact information, etc.) that will appear on your provider page. Then hit "Save" (or hit "Preview" then "Save") and your done! Feel free to add Events (http://foss4lib.org/node/add/event) Package Releases (http://foss4lib.org/node/add/release) and other Packages (http://foss4lib.org/node/add/package) that you know about. And thank you for extending the usefulness of the FOSS4LIB site. question about creating a donor report in Koha
by Library＠boystown.com.au 17 Jan '12

17 Jan '12

Hi There, I have received a large donation of books for my library and would like to run a report summing the number of items donated, totalling the rrp of the books donated so that I may determine a value for the donation. For the time being as I catalogue I have put donor info in the supplier id and rrp in price field in the items record. Any suggestions as to how this might be done? I would like to set up a system which I can use for other donations. Thanks, Amanda BoysTown Milton, Qld. library(a)boystown.com.au http://www.boystown.com.au http://www.boystown.com.au http://www.kidshelp.com.au http://www.parentline.com.au

Serials Planning Help
by Nicole Engard 17 Jan '12

17 Jan '12

I have a strange Serial planning question. American Libraries publishes 6 issue a year, and number them like this: Volume 42 #7/8 Volume 42 #9/10 Volume 42 #11/12 Can anyone come up with a way to enter this in to Koha to allow for this type of numbering? All I can come up with (and it's way sloppy) is to tell Koha that it's 12 issues a year and then delete every other issue and manually edit the volume/number field to show 7/8 or 9/10 etc. Thanks in advance for any tips you can provide. Nicole PS. I am still looking for serials planning examples from all types of journals/magazines so that I can share them in the manual and save new Koha librarians time!

Dear Koha Kommunitarians, I'm harvesting news for the January newsletter. Please send me by the 25th anything you think your fellow community members might like to know about. "News" can be as short as a sentence or as long as a paper. I especially encourage you to send me a line or two about what you're currently working on for publication in the gossip/society column. And if you know of a go-live not announced on the list, please be sure to let me know about it. Thanks, Daniel Grobani
