Patrons cannot place holds from OPAC
by Jim Maroon 24 Jan '12

24 Jan '12

When a patron tries to place a hold from the OPAC, they receive a message "Sorry, none of these items can be placed on hold." When staff tries to place a hold for the same, a message pops up "CANNOT PLACE HOLD Too many holds..." We can then click through, but not in the OPAC. When you check the holds for the patron, the record shows no holds. These are all items on which folks should be able to place holds. Is this one of those deals where we need to change our settings? If so, where and how? Thanks. accepting payments and credits for returned "lost" items
by Lori Bowen Ayre 24 Jan '12

24 Jan '12

Can someone verify that this is true of Koha? Accept credit and debit card payments at accounts desks, self check-out stations, and through the public web interface. Payments should be visible in the patron account immediately, and related blocks should be removed immediately. Also, do you know if you can apply a credit to a patron account if they've been accessed a fine for a lost item and then it is returned? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Lori Bowen Ayre // Library Technology Consultant / The Galecia Group Oversight Board & Communications Committee / Evergreen (707) 763-6869 // Lori.Ayre(a)galecia.com Availability: http://tungle.me/lori.ayre <Lori.Ayre(a)galecia.com>Specializing in open source ILS solutions, RFID, filtering, workflow optimization, and materials handling =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

koha notices PREDUE and PREDUEDGST
by Chris Meech 24 Jan '12

24 Jan '12

Hi, Our circulation notices PREDUE Advance Notice of Item Due and PREDUEDGST Advance Notice of Item Due (Digest) are not working properly. They email out to the correct address and with the correct patron name but they do not complete other variable fields. Other notices work fine. In fact the PREDUE and PREDUEDGST have some of the same code as our ODUE notice that works. Does anyone have any suggestions why this might be the case? Below is an example of the partially complete email received by a patron. Dear Christopher MEECH According to our current records, you have item/s that will be due soon. If you wish to renew them please contact the following branch. <<branches.branchname>> <<branches.branchaddress1>> <<branches.branchaddress2>> <<branches.branchaddress3>> Phone: <<branches.branchphone>> Email: <<branches.branchemail>> The following item(s) is/are:- <item>"<<biblio.title>>" by <<biblio.author>>, <<items.itemcallnumber>>, Barcode: <<items.barcode>> You may renew online if you have registered a password with the library, and a renewal is available. Thank you for visiting <<branches.branchname>> Library Thanks for your help Chris Koha version: 3.04.04.000 Christopher Meech Reference Librarian Waitaki District Libraries P.O. Printing Patron Barcodes
by S Anand 23 Jan '12

23 Jan '12

Dear all, We need to print only the Patron barcodes (& not the Patron Cards), and past them on to the Staff/Student ID cards - already issued to them by our Institution. Can someone guide me as to how to print only the Patron barcodes? We are printing barcodes for books on A4 size label sheet having 5 columns and 13 rows. The same way, we need to print the Patron barcodes. *(Currently we are running Version 3.00.05.003. Shortly, we will be upgrading to Version 3.06.00.000)* Looking forward to hearing from you, Regards, S. Anand

Install for Dummies
by Bruce A Metcalf 23 Jan '12

23 Jan '12

Greetings, I am a new user of Koha, and have had my Linux guru (who had not seen Koha prior to this work) install version 3.6.2 under Debian Squeeze on an otherwise empty virtual server. The staff client comes up fine, and using the beginners tutorials I've been able to set all of the parameters (that I understand). I have used the cataloging function to enter half a dozen bibliographic records and added holdings information for them. A shelf list creates correctly. All appears to be going exactly as it should. However, the public OPAC shows no books in the collection. Is there some step that is not covered by the tutorials that must be used to grant access? Can anyone suggest an online tutorial that covers the process? Cheers, / Bruce / Bruce A. Metcalf The Augustan Society Library

Having experienced a few glitches ourselves, here are some extracts from our "cheat sheet" (nelson is the name of our Debian/Ubuntu server with Koha 3.6.1 installed and happily working): *** do mysql dump FIRST *** *** do not go near link_bibs_to_authorities.pl *** paul@nelson:/$ cd /usr/share/koha Now su to the proper user: paul@nelson:/usr/share/koha$ su koha Now for the authorities (note include envars on command line) koha@nelson:/usr/share/koha$ KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/koha-conf.xml PERL5LIB=/usr/share/koha/lib ./bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -a -r -v Lastly, biblios (note -x without which the rebuild fails) koha@nelson:/usr/share/koha$ KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/koha-conf.xml PERL5LIB=/usr/share/koha/lib ./bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -r -v -x Best - Paul At 12:17 PM 1/21/2012 -0500, Chris Nighswonger wrote: >Hi Bruce, > >The correct paths for your installation would have been given in the notes >produced at the end of running Makefile.PL (not sure where this would show >up if you used the deb packages).
