Did your library benefit from leaving LibLime?
by Library Staff 10 Jan '12

10 Jan '12

Hello, Our library wants to leave LibLime when our contract expires, but we’ll have to convince our administration it’s worth moving to another vendor. We're thinking it would help us make our case to talk about how other libraries saw benefits from switching. If your library switched and is happy you did, could you please tell me off-list about your experience? Thanks in advance, A library staff member

Koha setup: using single for staff client and OPAC
by Jim Maroon 09 Jan '12

09 Jan '12

Hello, folks. I was wondering if I could get some advice. There is a controversy at our library about allowing outside access for the staff client. Our network administrator (who will have nothing to do with our Koha system) is concerned that opening a second port for the staff client creates additional risks. We have since worked out a compromise, but then I ran into the below link. In it, the author implies we don't need to use two ports, as he is only suggesting using port 80. I'm assuming that is for both staff and OPAC access from outside the firewall. ** ** http://openlib.org/home/krichel/courses/lis9012/doc/koha_installation.html** ** Here is the relevant quote: "Also note we are using port 80 for both servers, I don't see a reason to do otherwise. Apache can run many different virtual servers. Normally, each server has its own domain name." So, does this mean we could run both staff and OPAC on port 80? If so, I think this would go a long way toward resolving this issue and answering his security concerns. Thanks much in advance! --Jim Maroon

Database updates [IMPORTANT]
by Paul Poulain 06 Jan '12

06 Jan '12

Hello everybody, Some of you have reported that upgrades from 3.4 to 3.6 give warnings like "duplicate key blabla" or "xxx already exist" This is because the database update has a limit, and, if you update from 3.2 to 3.4, then 3.4 to 3.6, you'll do some updates twice, resulting in a warning. We could have advertised this fact more, I agree. But I confirm (I've checked, and Chris Cormack, the previous Release Manager confirms as well) those warnings are harmless. For 3.8, a new database update mechanism is underway, and this problem should disappear. In case you're running master (the developer version) and not a released version (3.4.x or 3.6.x), be carefull: I made a mistake when pushing my first patches with a wrong database revision numbering. I'll modify them in a few hours, so you'll get an update, and an error (that will be harmless too) -- Paul POULAIN Koha 3.8 Release Manager
