Techlogic Self-checkout stations with Koha
by Automation 06 Jan '12

06 Jan '12

Hello Folks ~ We recently migrated to Koha. We were using Techlogic Self-checkout stations before the migration and are wondering if other Koha libraries are using them. Could you share your configuration tricks if you're using Techlogic Self-Checkout stations with Koha. Thank you! Chad -- Chad Roseburg Automation Dept. North Central Regional Library

Re: [Koha] Authorities lost during upgrade to 3.6.1
by Paul 06 Jan '12

Earlier I wrote: QUESTION: Does this warning "Record didn't contain match fields in (bib1,Local-number)" have a specific cause that has been seen before? We have been scratching around, and can find nothing wrong for the record in question. I'd rather not just delete it (in case there are more records further down that have the same problem) so if somebody could help with the relationship between "bib1" and "Local-number" i'll have another try at finding the cause. There is another weird glitch that has "appeared" since reindexing zebra. Results.tt at line 496 calls for SEARCH_RESULT.size which is from Marc 330$c (physical height of book in cms.) It appears correctly (OPAC and staff) if there is a value in the biblio record, but if 300$c has been left blank during cataloguing (either manual or Z39.50) then various two digit numbers (e.g. 47, 50, 52, 58 etc) are appearing in search results - and they are NOT identical in the OPAC and the staff searches. If I reboot the server, the values change ;={ Any ideas, please? [For any future reference, I found the answer to my previous question "Is there a way in staff-client to find the record matching biblio # 12,836? Entering without quotes "biblionumber: 12836" (no comma delimiter for thousands) is the way to go.] Again, many thanks - Paul

Not receiving daily serials
by Becker, Turi 05 Jan '12

05 Jan '12

Hi - We're an 11 branch public library system who is going to migrate to Koha from Sirsi/Dynix Symphony next week. We're trying to get the Serials module figured out so we can get it set up once we migrate. Since we have so many branches all receiving dailies, we are thinking of not having them check in each daily issue. Does anyone else do this, and how has it worked out? If we go this route, what is the best way to set up the subscriptions? There will need to be a Public Note that says "Most recent X months held", but we don't need to display Latest Issues or Subscription From data to the public. Problems after upgrade to 3.4.3
by Olugbenga Adara 05 Jan '12

05 Jan '12

Hello all, I have just finished an upgrade from 3.2.10 to 3.4.3 and after the upgrade, ran the remove_items_from_biblioitems.pl script. I had the following error repeatedly - use of uninitialized value in pattern match (m//) . After the script completed, I re-indexed zebra and ran a search from the OPAC, I got results but every biblio in all the results always say item is not available, despite the items being displayed in the details page. Also circulating books give the error - "Can't call method "subfield" on an undefined value at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Biblio.pm line 2835." even though checking the patron's record later shows the book has been successfully checked out. Is there a way i can verify that the items were successfully removed from biblioitems? One thing with this installation is that the Marc - Koha mappings are not the standard Koha ones. the install has been coming from 2.2.9 and I had to modify record.abs to get zebra to work. Any tip/suggestion to get the problem solved will be appreciated. Authorities lost during upgrade to 3.6.1
by Paul 05 Jan '12

05 Jan '12

Hoping someone can help, please. We recently upgraded from 3.2 to 3.6.1 and nearly everything went well during import of ~15,000 biblios, but something has happened to the "authorities" -- only newly catalogued (i.e. using 3.6.1) authorities appear in the staff search from <http://koha-admin/cgi-bin/koha/authorities/authorities-home.pl>. All the others are still there: exportauth.pl finds all PERSO_NAME, TOPIC_TERM etc as expected, e.g.: 00389nz a2200133o 45000010002000000030007000020050017000090080039000260400019000651000017000846670040001016700099001419420015002408OPIACS20110310122059.0110310|||a|||||| | ||| d aOPIACScOPIACS aAbbass, D.K. aMachine generated authority record. aWork cat.: (OPIACS)3: Abbass, D.K., Radeau Land Tortoise, North America's oldest warship, 1993 aPERSO_NAME but Koha no longer appears to "cross reference" them as far as staff is concerned. For example, when a cataloguer attempts to enter another title by Abbass, D.K. (the "authority" I quote above), she cannot find it in the drop-down for 100a I'm sure there's a simple fix, but at the moment I'm tearing my hair out -- thanks in advance. Paul

Do your biblio records have the same biblionumber after migration? If they differ, maybe you need to run link_bibs_to_authorities.pl. MARC Export problem
by Elaine Bradtke 05 Jan '12

05 Jan '12

I am trying to export a group of biblios in order to batch edit them. These are biblios without item records (they are actually components, part of a larger bound volume, not physical items by themselves). But when I go through the steps in MARC export and select item type: component, it produces an empty file. If I select all item types, it only exports biblios with item records attached. Which is precisely the opposite of what I'm trying to do. I also tried selecting 'don't export items' to see if that made a difference. It doesn't. Is there any way I can extract these MARC records, or do I have to fix them all one at a time? We're running 3.04.02.000 - have been too busy with a major move in the past six months to upgrade. If this is a problem that has been fixed in a later version that would be useful to know. -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 (This number is for the English Folk Dance and Song Society in London, England. RDA Toolkit
by Lori Bowen Ayre 04 Jan '12

04 Jan '12

Hi All, I've recently been in touch with James Hennelly (future--jhennelly(a)ala.org) who is involved in the RDA Toolkit. He drew my attention to their free MARC linking service ( http://www.rdatoolkit.org/sites/default/files/marc_api_linkguide_final.pdf) that allows for ILS users to open RDA Toolkit from a MARC input screen. The service is already being used by OCLC's Connection and SkyRiver. They'd love to see this service implemented with an open source product so would like to talk to someone about it. Would anyone be interested in pursuing this for Koha? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Lori Bowen Ayre // Library Technology Consultant / The Galecia Group Oversight Board & Communications Committee / Evergreen (707) 763-6869 // Lori.Ayre(a)galecia.com Availability: http://tungle.me/lori.ayre <Lori.Ayre(a)galecia.com>Specializing in open source ILS solutions, RFID, filtering, workflow optimization, and materials handling =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
