Improving the advanced search form
by Srikanth Dhondi 26 Oct '12

Hi there, I am currently working on improving accessibility of koha opac site with our accessibility expert. One of the things we noticed is that the advanced search option is not only confusing for blind users but also even for normal users. I have noticed the following issues with it: 1) By default the Fewer Options option is selected, which is not obvious to the normal users until they click on More Options. 2) The layout could be a lot better, in particular the Fewer Options search form is quite abstract in what it does. For example, the default boolean operator is AND which is not obvious to even normal user. In my opinion, layout similar to the one http://kea.massey.ac.nz/search/X, is better. Looking forward to your comments/feedback. Srikanth

rebuild_zebra: Biblios aren't displayed anymore
by Beda Szukics 25 Oct '12

Hi all Since I have done a rebuild of the zebra index with /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -a -r the biblios and items aren't displayed anymore with the search results. You can try it at http://bibliothek.ksobwalden.ch/ using for instancs the author Thomas Mann. The result shows 7 hints (witch is likely the number of Thomas Mann as an author or co-author). But alle the seven hints are marked with "Kein Titel" If I use the inventory tool then the biblios are shown an I can even edit them. /var/log/koha/koha-opac-error.log shows some errors like: [Mon Oct 22 14:43:23 2012] [error] [client 180.76.5.146] [Mon Oct 22 14:43:23 2012] opac-detail.pl: Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/share/koha/opac/htdocs/opac-tmpl/prog/en/modules/opac-detail.tt line 746. What's wrong? It's Koha 3.08.05 with Perl 5.010001 Zebra 2.0.52 on debian squeeze. Beda

Re: [Koha] Help needed with report - how to extract subtitle and edition?

Thanks, that worked perfectly I want the biblio number because we're using it as part of our matching rules during import. The biblio numbers are being added into the appropriate records pre-upload, because I can't write a matching rule that includes subtitle and edition. This will become even more useful when we import data from a branch which duplicates about 80% of what's already in the main collection. Thanks again! I think in this case you need to make the report using the xml field in biblio items table because the rest of sub fields you will find there Sent from my HTC ----- Reply message ----- From: "Elaine Bradtke" <eb(a)efdss.org> To: "koha" <koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz> Subject: [Koha] Help needed with report - how to extract subtitle and edition? Date: Wed, Oct 24, 2012 11:23 pm I'm trying to catch duplicate items in data before I upload it (ISBN won't help in this case). In order to do that I've written a report to list the books currently in Koha, and will compare them with my external files. However, if I can't include the subtitle (MARC 245 b) I will get too many false positives (we have lots of things with the same title, but different subtitles) It would also help if I could also have the 250 a (edition) This is what I have: SELECT biblio.biblionumber,biblio.author,biblio.title,biblio.copyrightdate,biblioitems.place,biblioitems.publishercode,biblioitems.isbn FROM items LEFT JOIN biblioitems on (items.biblioitemnumber=biblioitems.biblioitemnumber) LEFT JOIN biblio on (biblioitems.biblionumber=biblio.biblionumber) WHERE items.itype='BK' AND items.holdingbranch='VWML' ORDER BY biblio.author asc This works fine, but doesn't include the 245 b or the 250 a Can anyone help? -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 (This number is for the English Folk Dance and Song Society in London, England. You will have a much greater chance of getting a response that way. You should be able to do an "in place" upgrade. After taking a backup of your current database, just install the new version of Koha and browse to the staff interface to run the installer. There is also at least one script you will need to run from the command line to remove the items from the bibs. Probably the best way is to move to the packages. I believe there is a way when installing from the packages to import your existing database. Check out koha-create for more on that. Also, I think the packages will run all of the necessary back-end scripts. Someone else will correct me if I'm wrong.
