Hi Karen, Yes, Koha has a HOLD notice that is emailed to patrons when their hold is available for pickup. The patron has to choose to receive the "Hold Filled" notice in his/her messaging preferences. If you can email me (off list) the name of the patron that you think should have received a hold filled email but didn't, then I can investigate this further for you. notifying patrons about holds

Hello, I just got a note from a student worker who oversees circulation with a question about holds. She said, "Question: in Koha we are able to place books on hold so the patron should get an email when the book is checked in and placed on the hold shelf, but this system doesn't actually work." I didn't think Koha was supposed to email the patron automatically that their hold was available. I checked the manual at koha-community.org, and it also didn't sound like there were automatic emails being generated. Can someone confirm this? Newbie: MARC Framework editing question

Hi, Please bear with my ignorance ... I have created a noe MARC framework (BOOKS) and also an authorized value "Languages". The framework is derived from the Default framework and accordingly has a field "041 - LANGUAGE CODE". I proceeded to have that mandatory and linked it to the created authorized value. My question now is: how does this actually work when importing something via z39.50 from let's say the LOC ... it's possible that MARC field definitions from souces conflict with my local setup. How are conflicts handled? Is it safer to generate a new (local) field rather than editing like done above? Thanks for any hints. Sincerely, Joh

Dear community, as Paul pointed out in his monthly RM newsletter, the freeze dates for the upcoming version 3.10 are getting closer and closer (http://koha-community.org/koha-release-manager-newsletter-10-2012-08/) - and there are still lots of patches, features and bug fixes waiting to be tested, that could be part of this next release. how to leave quickly circulation message on specific items ?

Hi My colleagues often need to leave messages that must be seen at check-in. If the message concerns a patron, they can use Koha circulation message. (for example : "umbrella lost at the library...") But if the message concerns a specific item I think there is no easy way to do that. (for example : "at check-in of THIS book, give it to head librarian / change the barcode / change the call number...") At check in, the item public note is visible (in red), but we don't want these messages to be seen on the opac... We can not use item non-public note for this purpose, because : - it is not visible at check-in - it could not be filled in easily and quickly at check-out. We could maybe use the "materials" item fields (mapped with items.materials), but I don't like that because if we do so, we could not use it for its normal purpose anymore (for example "One leaflet with this CD") So most of my colleagues are using the patron circulation message with this kind of message : "When the book with barcode ...... and title ..... is check-in, change the barcode" But the message appears for each check-in... Maybe there is a function I did not see ? If not, don't you think it would be a pretty improvement to koha ? Best regards M. What details? Koha will support Unicode input out of the box, so just start making your entries. To search successfully in Devanagari you will have to use Zebra. You can apply http://git.biblibre.com/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=koha;a=commitdiff_plain;h=b406… this patch to make necessary changes to you Zebra Configuration.. Or if you are not comfortable applying patches etc you can follow following procedure.. #sudo apt-get install libicu-dev libicu38 yaz-icu Copy following files from /usr/share/idzebra-2.0/tab/ to /etc/koha/zebradb/etc/ icu.idx phrases-icu.xml string.chr words-icu.xml Copy /etc/koha/zebradb/etc/words-icu.xml to /etc/koha/zebradb/etc/icu.xml Edit /etc/koha/zebradb/etc/icu.xml change <icu_chain locale="en"> to <icu_chain locale="en_IN.UTF-8"> Save and change ownership of all copied files to koha:koha #sudo chown -R koha:koha /etc/koha/zebradb/etc Edit /etc/koha/zebradb/zebra-biblios.cfg add line index: icu.idx Restart zebra server and queue daemons #sudo /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon restart #sudo /etc/init.d/koha-zebraqueue-daemon restart Rebuild zebra index #sudo KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/koha-conf.xml PERL5LIB=/usr/share/koha/lib /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -r -v Try your searches..
