Humboldt discovering Koha
by Jenny Bellmann 17 Nov '12

17 Nov '12

Dear Koha-Community, dear list, dear colleagues we (the ZE Language Centre of Humboldt University Berlin) have chosen Koha to organize our library. We have been following this list with great interest for several months now. To give you a short idea of our activities so far: Most of the work is done with the cataloging module. Small parts of our collection - approximately 4000 titles - have been imported into Koha for testing purposes. Once we feel safe with that and the data has been prepared we´ll take the next step with adjusting the layout to the Humboldt Universities corporate design. We´re looking forward to sharing our experience with our users and of course with you, the community. Thanks to the questions and discussions in this list and the support of BSZ in Baden-Württemberg we had the chance to learn a great deal about koha already. We´ll keep on working and continue discovering with koha. Sincerely yours -- Jenny Bellmann ZE Sprachenzentrum HU-Berlin / Mediothek Unter den Linden 6, 10099 Berlin Sitz: Dorotheenstraße 65 Tel.: +49 30 2093 5041 mail: jenny.bellmann(a)hu-berlin.de

by Lee Miller 15 Nov '12

15 Nov '12

I have to answer a few questions for EBSCO and would like some direction- they want to screen scrape the OPAC */Does Koha's OPAC have a user session limit? and is there a limit to the number of users it accepts at one time? When does a session time time out? Is it possible to remove the user session limit or allow EBSCO a certain amount of current sessions?/* Thank you in advance for any help Lee in Butte -- Lee Miller Library Director BSB Public Library 226 W. Koha Installationsparty in Wildau, 01.12.2012
by Mirko 15 Nov '12

15 Nov '12

~~~ Information available in German only ~~~ Koha Installationsparty 01.12.2012 17:00 Uhr TH Wildau / Bibliothek Bibliothekssystem Koha - eine denkbare Alternative? Im Rahmen einer Installationsparty wollen wir das freie Bibliothekssystem Koha gemeinsam installieren und einen ersten Blick in das System werfen. In gemeinsamer Diskussion soll erörtert werden, welche Probleme ein eigener Betrieb des Systems als Alternative zu einem bezahlten Hosting aufwirft und welche Art von Unterstützung notwendig wäre, um als Bibliothek diesen Schritt zu gehen. Ziel des Abends soll sein, dass alle Teilnehmenden mit einer laufenden Koha-Installation und neuen Ideen nach Hause gehen. Die Veranstaltung findet zeitgleich zur Schmökernacht in der Bibliothek der TH Wildau statt. Beginn ist 17 Uhr, das Ende ist offen. Für Verpflegung ist gesorgt und es gibt Ruheliegen. Die Bibliothek schließt erst am 02.12. um 11 Uhr. Die Anzahl der Plätze ist begrenzt auf 12 Personen. Für eine Teilnahme schreiben Sie bitte eine Mail an bibliothek(a)th-wildau.de. Ueber Koha: Koha ist ein professionelles Bibliothekssystem mit allen wesentlichen Modulen. Es ist 'free and open source software' und kann ohne Lizenzkosten genutzt werden. Es wird in mehreren tausend Bibliotheken weltweit eingesetzt. Die Benutzung ist vollständig browserbasiert, der moderne OPAC verfügt über eine Vielzahl von Web2.0-Features. Since ti index (a Zebra index) is fed up by more than one MARC tag, the query is not a scan. It is an advanced search (as the manual section title says). Scan means (in my opinion) to browse an ordered list (of authors, subjects, titles...) starting from an entry point. Anyway, in http://your_catalog/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl no buttons have value 'scan indexes' or something similar... Bye. Stefano
505 Enhanced Contents Note
by Charles Hill 13 Nov '12
13 Nov '12
Hello, My library recently made the switch to Koha, and I am thus still getting used to it. One major trouble I am having is with the 505 field if I want to include an enhanced (as opposed to simply formatted) contents note to allow patrons to access chapters of edited volumes by title/author searches rather than just keywords. I am used to formatting them as a chain of $t /$r within a single field, but since Koha has separate form fields for each subfield, I feel a little out to sea on this one. Every variation I try makes the display unusable and doesn't visually connect the $t subfield to the appropriate $r subfield in the OPAC. Do I need to repeat the entire 505 tag for each individual entry? I saw in the list archive that there is a bug-fix related to the 505 field, will this fix the problem, or is there some aspect of formatting that I am missing? Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you, Charles Ed Hill Natural Hazards Library - University of Colorado, Boulder
