Re: [Koha] Do you like the way Koha is sorting facets and facets results ?
by Stefano Bargioni 19 Nov '12

Looking at the Perl script that generates Koha facets, in my opinion they are not good and... cannot be better :-) I found a very good solution in the Solr demo of BibLibre. Try http://catalogue.solr-demo.biblibre.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=*%3A*… that retrieves all records in the catalog. I think that facets cannot be generated but the indexer itself. Don't know if Zebra can generate them. Hope yopu find a solution. cataloging files stored locally
by Amy Schuler 19 Nov '12

Dear catalogers using Koha, I am using koha v. 3.06.04.000. I am having trouble getting file paths to work for digital items stored locally. Using MARC Tag 856, first indicator value 4, $u, with file path something like file://mylocalserver/blahblah<file:///\\mylocalserver\blahblah>... does not work. There is just no action in the browser whatsoever. It seems this is because that tagging and indicator combination invoke the HTTP protocol which is not actually being used here. I read in the MARC documentation that what I really want to use for locally stored files is first indicator value 7 and $2. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that Koha supports $2 (only a bunch of the letter subfields). Has anyone figured this out? Or feel free to point out other issues I may be overlooking. Thanks! Amy C. Search of Non-Latin records
by Araik Manukyan 19 Nov '12

19 Nov '12

Dear friends, Our catalog mainly consists of Armenian records, thus during the installation we have chosen to use ICU. Then, after importing some records, we have rebuilded the Zebra index. On the console it was written that 7 records were indexed. However, when we tried to search for imported records, nothing was retrieved. But the records are definitely imported, since they are visible in the Staged Records. Interestingly, even records in English are not being searched. In the previous versions of koha we were enabling ICU after the installation by several manual modfications, but now this does not work too. If we do in this way, Koha simply retrieves all existing records in Armenian which is of course wrong. So, it appears that regardless how we enable ICU (during the installation or aftewards), non-latin records are anyway not being indexed. Please, can someone provide us a step-by-step solution? This is essential for us. Thanks in advance, Araik.

Inventory / Stock taking: Gateway Time-out
by Vimal Kumar V. 19 Nov '12

Dear Friends, We have 50000 records in Koha 3.8.6. For trying stock taking , we input accession numbers in a csv file (45000 records) and uploaded in stock taking module. We got the following error. Gateway Time-out The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application. Whats the meaning of this error? Anybody tried stock taking of huge number of records? -- Vimal Kumar V. Prolem with setting 1.2.3.2 IndependantBranches
by Quoc Uy 19 Nov '12

I'm trying to install Koha for sharing for 20 branches libraries in my province. I " Prevent staff (but not superlibrarians) from modifying objects (holds, items, patrons, etc.) belonging to other libraries. " Now a staff can't check out, check in for patrons or items belongs to another library. It works great. But when a staff (not superlibrarians )search in catalog, he still can see results belong to another branches libraries and can edit item, change item's status (lost, damaged). I don't know it's a bug or i forgot somethings? In relations with this setting, i have changed some system preferences 1.5.3.6 Don't allow patron hold or check out from other branches. 1.11.1.6 Add a choice branches on search opac (really nice, when patrons can search only in their library ) 1.11.3.10 Limit patron search on their own branch 1.11.3.11 Alow hold on only their branch. I'm wondering, shoult we put a preference, limit staff search on their own branch. So they can't see items belong to another branches libraries and can't edit it. Thanks for reading. Best regardes! Merging items on same record?
by Cab Vinton 17 Nov '12

17 Nov '12

Is there a way to merge different items on the same record? I know there's a way to merge bib records, but that doesn't apply here. My goal is to preserve the circ histories attached to the individual items. Thanks, Cab Vinton, Director Sanbornton Public Library Sanbornton, NH Life is short. Read fast!

OPAC open in new window problem
by clint.deckard 17 Nov '12

17 Nov '12

Kia ora, Your assistance would be appreciated. I have set the system pref OPACURLOpenInNewWindow to 'do' which should cause URLs to open in a new window in the OPAC, but this is not happening. I have added ebooks but the link does not open in a new window. I am using 3.8.6 Debian packages. I found a bug report 5522 relating to this issue but it states ebooks were not affected, just Google preview. Does this warrant another bug report or is it covered in bug 5522. Many thanks, Clint Deckard. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
