Koha search based on Language MARC fields
by keeran k 07 Mar '13

07 Mar '13

Hi, I'm Fairly new to KOHA Software and trying to understand the background scripting part of Koha for searching; My objective is: To customize basic search option to find all records/items based on language of the work/code-language, abstract language; for e.g fre could be marked in *any one* of three fields 008/35-37, 041 or 100l MARC fields. Presently, I made some changes to masthead.inc to have "language" option in drop-down of search index. it works only if language code is available in 041 field. It doesn't check for 100l and 008/35-37 MARC fields, which I need to enable. Please share any suggestions, directions, which perl or zebra confgi file to work upon. Thanks, Keeran

Koha import_records database
by schnydszch 07 Mar '13

07 Mar '13

The import_records table of my koha database is 700 MB plus already. If i delete some records/rows here, will I be having problems in the future? Is there a way of deleting partially or fully the import records since we're particularly interested only with biblio records and items? Migration from LibraryWorld to Koha
by Eric Rosen 06 Mar '13

06 Mar '13

I work at the a small psychiatry library with less than 11,000 records in our current catalog, LibraryWorld. We are in the process of planning to implement Koha and was wondering if anyone in the Koha Community has performed a similar migration of records from LibraryWorld; any thoughts on the workflow, work breakdown structure or other issues that came up during the migration of records would of great interest to us in planning our transition, as well as what role consultants (e.g. Bywater) played in expediting the process. -- Eric Rosen, MLIS Senior Library Assistant San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis Erik H. Strange searching problem (3.10.1)
by Nicholas van Rheede van Oudtshoorn 06 Mar '13

06 Mar '13

Hello all! We've got a *very* strange searching problem that has arrived upon upgrading to 3.10.1. In a nutshell, search results are *very* inconsistent. For example, searching for *"five views*" ( http://library.pbc.wa.edu.au/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?idx=&q=five+views) returns 4 results, including one for the book title "five views on sanctification". However, searching for "*five views sanctification*" ( http://library.pbc.wa.edu.au/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?idx=&q=five+views+…) returns a no results found page. Similar issues occur when searching on part of a title and author. It seems that the more precise a search is, the less chance there is of finding the resource. Obviously, this is quite a major problem for us! Does anyone have any idea on what might be happening... or where to start diagnosing this? I've attached zebra debug logs for the two searches linked above. God bless, Nick van Oudtshoorn IT - Perth Bible College library.pbc.wa.edu.au

Re: [Koha] 505 tag: formatted contents notes

A few days ago I was cataloging a 2-volume title with 2 discs > per volume and a total of 78 songs and performers! My question is how to > enter these into the Koha record. Do I simply duplicate the 505 tag over > and over again? This is what I did but I'm wondering if there is a better > way. My users need to get down to the band or song level when they search. > > Paula Corman > The Musical Instrument Museum > Phoenix, AZ. As a brief example, look at "Ivor Novello songs" at Worldcat https://www.worldcat.org/title/ivor-novello-songs/oclc/62391480&referer=bri… If you create a basic 505 (ind2 is blank) (displaying in the MarcEdit format) : =505 0\$aKing's rhapsody. Some day my heart will awake (3:00) -- The dancing years. Primrose (2:12) -- Perchance to dream. Love is my reason (2:54) -- Arc de Triomphe. Love is my reason (2:54) -- The little damozel (2:53) -- Glamorous night. When the gypsy played (5:14) -- ........ users cannot search by title for "King's rhapsody" or "Some day my heart..." On the other hand if you set ind2 to 0 and format the contents they can: =505 00$tKing's rhapsody.$tSome day my heart will awake$g(3:00) --$tThe dancing years.$tPrimrose$g(2:12) --$tPerchance to dream.$tLove is my reason$g(2:54) --$tArc de Triomphe.$tLove is my reason$g(2:54) --$tThe little damozel$g(2:53) --$tGlamorous night.$tWhen the gypsy played$g(5:14) -- ........ If you need several 505s, it may be useful to set ind1 to 8 in the second and subsequent notes to suppress the display constant. But if what you're cataloging has uniform titles, I find it's better to go with added entries; ditto if you want to allow your patrons to search extensively on performers. As far as entering data for an enhanced 505, the web interface for koha makes it a real pain in the neck. It's easier by far to use MarcEdit (unless I'm missing a short cut in koha). I hope that's the sort of information you were looking for. Bob Elgie
