Effects of stopping the chron job
by Jerry Carbone 26 Aug '13

26 Aug '13

We are a 3 library network that will grow to 10 libraries by the end of 2014. We have just come online in June and have upgraded to Koha 3.10.09.0000. At this time we are concerned with the fine updates that occur when the chron job runs every night. We see customer service issues arising where a patron may exceed the fine threshold of $10 with only a few items out, but need to renew these items and would like to do it online. What we would like to know is if there are any library systems out there that assess fines and have turned off the chron job? What were the impacts of doing so? If you did do it and then changed back we would like to know that information as well. If you are a single library and have done this please also respond. Thanks for your input. Re: [Koha] [Koha-devel] Who is Live DVD manager of version 3.12.x?
by COURYHOUSE＠aol.com 26 Aug '13

LIVE DVD is the best into to a general person of KOHA! I remember back when I first tried to install it on red hat and there were all these unsatisfied external things and kati kaui or what ever you call him was PAT so that is .... 10 years ago or? do not do away with live dvd it may be one of the best marketing tools you have to entice new users. Ed Sharpe archivist for SMECC In a message dated 8/26/2013 11:04:42 A.M. Mountain Standard Time, vimal0212(a)gmail.com writes: Dear Jared, Don't conclude that Live DVD's are bad idea. Developers and librarians view points are different. Librarians are end users of Koha, developers are not end users, they are facilitators. I am not trying to under estimate the role of developers. Without a Live DVD Koha is a hard nut to break, majority of LIS professionals are not Linux experts and they can't try Koha. No need to release Live DVD with every version updates. One live DVD for entire 3.12.x release cycle is enough. Koha installed inside Live DVD by following Koha packages, users can upgrade to new version updates by executing commands or running update manager. I would like to listen other members opinions about this matter. Who is Live DVD manager of version 3.12.x?
by Vimal Kumar V. 26 Aug '13

Dear Friends, I don't know why Release Maintainer of Koha 3.12.x always forgot to give the exact name of Live DVD manager in release notes!!! http://koha-community.org/koha-3-12-4-released/ I once again request to Release Manager to read once more roles for 3.12 version. http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roles_for_3.12 I would like to get the reputation as Live DVD Manager. Like any other members in developers community, I had burned lot of my time to create Koha Live DVD for 3.12 version. Regards, -- Vimal Kumar V. report for weeding
by Kohn, Karen 26 Aug '13

26 Aug '13

Hello, One of our departments has asked to see a complete list of books that we are considering weeding, so that they can identify ones that they want us to keep. If we're going to provide them with this list, we want it to include circulation information, so they can take into account the fact that many of these books haven't checked out in years! Another librarian approached me about how to make this list, but I was not quite sure how. His idea was to create a fake patron, called Weeding, and check all the books out to the patron. He then asked if we could run a report of everything checked out to that patron. We'd want the report to include the title, author, date last checked out, and total checkouts, and probably year of publication. I don't see a way to do this using the guided reports. Does anyone have an idea for us of either a) how to make a report of items checked out to a particular patron and including the information I need, or b) another not-too-time-consuming way to make this list? Thanks. -- *Karen Kohn* Collection Development Manager Education and Sociology Librarian Landman Library Arcadia University 450 S. Easton Road Glenside, PA 19038 ph: 215-572-8528 fax: 215-572-0240
