A Koha area on Stack Exchange?
by Magnus Enger 24 Sep '13

24 Sep '13

Dear Community! There has been talk about the email lists not serving us optimaly any longer. Liz Rea has taken some steps to check out Stack Exchange as an alternative: http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/60300/koha-open-source-library-so… However, Stack Exchange does have a vetting system for new areas/topics before they are added to the site. The Koha topic needs two things to move on to the next stage: - 60 followers - 40 sample questions with at least 10 points/upvotes Each user can propose 5 sample questions and give 5 upvotes. Currently there are 8 followers, 11 example questions and the most voted question has 3 votes. So if you think Stack Exchange is an interesting site as an alternative to the mailing lists, you need to: - Sign up for Stack Exchange, if you are not already a member - Follow the Koha topic/site - Propose some example questions (we need at least 40) - Vote on example questions (we need at least 40 questions with a score of at least 10) ...at least that is my understanding of how things work. Corrections are welcome! Best regards, Magnus Enger libriotech.no

Reporting help
by Gunilla Jensen 24 Sep '13

Hello all NIWA Library are combining branch collections around New Zealand into one centralised in Wellington. For deselection purposes I'm trying to create a report, so I can see what titles we have got duplicate items in Wellington and at other branches. However, I'm not having much success with the SQL below. I can't get the AND operator to work (e.g. WHERE holdingbranch = 'WELLINGTON' AND holdingbranch = 'CHRISTCH'). Instead I use IN(X,Y) but this operator uses 'OR' as default so I get all titles held both in Wellington and in Christchurch instead of just the titles that are held in both places. Can anyone help me with this? SELECT biblio.title, items.itemcallnumber, items.holdingbranch, items.homebranch, items.barcode FROM items LEFT JOIN biblio ON items.biblionumber=biblio.biblionumber WHERE holdingbranch IN('WELLINGTON', 'CHRISTCH') ORDER BY biblio.title Thank you, Gunilla Gunilla Jensen | Librarian (Technologies) NIWA -National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research<http://niwa.co.nz/> Private Bag 19401, Kilbirnie, Wellington, 6241, NZ | 04-3860544 library(a)niwa.co.nz<mailto:library@niwa.co.nz> -- Please consider the environment before printing this email. If that is the case, then you can go to the Tools, and click on "Export data". You would then be able to export out your bibliography and authority records. The next data you may want to get out will be patrons record. For that you will need to generate a report that you can download. You will then need to import the biblios and authority from the stage MARC for import link in Tools and also import your patrons from a link in the same Tools page. Cheers.
