Dear Friends, One of my friend faced a problem with Koha version 3.12.3. His Koha contains about 60000 records. Few days back his PC seems slow in performance. He checked the records and found that about 180000 records now in Koha!! Biblionumber and barcodes have incremented many times. Please see the report screenshot, http://postimg.org/image/dq8ltomxf/ Anybody got this type of problem before? Regards, -- Vimal Kumar V. Unexpected behavior in 3.14 bootstrap OPAC User login
by Elaine Bradtke 09 Feb '14

09 Feb '14

A mystery: We recently implemented the bootstrap OPAC theme in our production site and updated the system to 3.14.2. The IT half of the team (Doug Kingston) mentioned that since we started using bootstrap he is sent to an unexpected screen in the OPAC. The home screen is the same, but after a very short pause he is sent to a screen that says Welcome Doug Kingston. We have user logins disabled on the OPAC, and he never saw the login box, it just did it automatically and invisibly (he was logged into the Admin. site at the time). But that's not the only mystery. It only happens to him, not to me. We both have Superlibrarian status, we're running the same OS (X 10.9.1) on our nearly identical laptops, we're using the same browser (Chrome). . . I thought it might be because I have DoNotTrackMe running in my browser. But I tested it on another instance of Chrome without DoNotTrackMe running (on a virtual machine running XP) and it still doesn't log me into the OPAC. I also tried it on Firefox, but in either case I can't get it to replicate what it does for Doug. He suspects it has something to do with cookies, but hasn't had a chance to delve any deeper into the problem other than to verify that it doesn't happen in an incognito window. Another variable may be auto login features in Chrome and LastPass. If Doug turns off LastPass, the auto login stops (though it never happens on my computer in either browser with LastPass turned on). The library staff has gone home for the day, so I don't know if any of them has noticed this quirk. The response to the new theme has been otherwise quite positive. I'm tempted to take the precaution of switching the theme back to prog, on the extremely remote chance that there's an underlying security issue somewhere. Linking the bibliographic record to Wikipedia
by Haik Zargaryan 08 Feb '14

08 Feb '14

Dear list, I know that koha has a feature to link the biblio record to the authority record by creating a "magnifying glass" icon near the author name. Once you click the icon, which is actually a link, the authority record is opened. Furthermore, you can link the authority record to Wikipedia. I would like to know whether koha has a feature to add an icon (similar o the aforementioned one) that links the bibliographic record's authot to the respective Wikipedia article. If no, are there plans to develop such a feature in the future releases? Thanks in advance, haik.

Installing Koha 3.12 on CentOS 5.x 32bit
by Raj Pawan 07 Feb '14

07 Feb '14

I have a requirement of hosting a Free Library management system for a Non Profit organization with a noble cause. We were able to manage and get a free VPS hosting space for ourselves with the following configuration: OS: CentOS 5.x 32bit Bandwidth limit: 500 GB Memory: 512 MB Disk: 20 GB *Absolutely No Support* offered by web hosting company as this is a Free VPS account, so I am all on my own with the help of the Koha forums and mailing lists. I am using a Mac for all the operations and unfortunately the web console provided by webhosters do not work with it as a Java applet has not been signed against the Apple authority. So, I am using SSH to remotely login via terminal. Questions: 1. Is it possible to install Koha 3.12 or 3.14 on CentOS 5.x? 2. I referred this post <http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Koha-on-CentOS-5-2-td3059049.html> but not being able to get it to work. What are the packages which I should get before I start installing Koha into it. 3. apt-get does not work for me. I have wget installed but no dpkg as explained in this post <http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-965602.html> . 4. I am totally new to VPS thing, where exactly should I copy all the files etc.? Thank you for any help / suggestion which you might offer. Eagerly anticipating replies and help. -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Installing-Koha-3-12-on-CentOS-5-x-32bit-… Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Zebra & Yaz for 32-bit architecture - Centos 5.x
by Raj Pawan 07 Feb '14

07 Feb '14

I am trying to configure my VPS by installing pre-requisites for Koha 3.14. My VPS configuration: OS: CentOS 5.x 32bit Bandwidth limit: 500 GB Memory: 512 MB Disk: 20 GB I am trying to install Zebra and Yaz as explained in this Wiki: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_3.10_on_Centos_6.3_x86_64_en#Koha_… But, I see that there is no 32-bit rpm packets available for CentOS from where I can install the Zebra packets. I have checked for the rpm's over here: http://ftp.indexdata.dk/pub/zebra/redhat/centos/5.5/ All they have got is this for x86_64 architecture: http://ftp.indexdata.dk/pub/zebra/redhat/centos/5.5/RPMS/x86_64/ What can I do now? Can I blindly install the 64-bit packets and perform a rpm install in the VPS? Will it work? Any alternatives? Thank you -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Zebra-Yaz-for-32-bit-architecture-Centos-… Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

IMPORTANT: Koha security release
by Galen Charlton 07 Feb '14

07 Feb '14

The Koha community is releasing a security update for all supported and recent unsupported versions of Koha. The security update is available in the following new releases being made today: * 3.14.3 * 3.12.10 * 3.10.13 * 3.8.23 The following security bugs are fixed by this update: * Bug 11660: tools/pdfViewer.pl could be used to read arbitrary files on the server * Bug 11661: the staff interface help editor could be used to modify or create arbitrary files on the server with the privileges of the Apache user * Bug 11662: member-picupload.pl could be used to write to arbitrary files on the server with the privileges of the Apache user * Bug 11666: the MARC framework import/export function did not require authentication, and could be used to perform unexpected SQL commands The fix for bug 11666 removes SQL as a supported format for importing or exporting MARC frameworks. We recommend that you upgrade immediately to get the fixes for these security issues. However, if you are not able to perform the upgrade right away, you can mitigate against the issues by performing the following actions: * deleting the pdfViewer.pl script * deleting the member-picupload.pl script * making edithelp.pl not be executable, e.g., by doing chmod a-x edithelp.pl * making import_export_framework.pl not be executable, which will disable the MARC framework import and export functionality Our thanks to John Lightsey for finding and reporting the issues. The 3.14.3 and 3.10.13 releases also contain unrelated bugfixes which are described in their release notes. Please note that if you installed from a tarball, you may need to manually delete pdfViewer.pl and member-picupload.pl, even after you upgrade. Users of the Debian packages for 3.12.x and 3.14.x (and master) can get the latest release by running apt-get update followed by apt-get upgrade. Tarballs are also available and can be downloaded from http://download.koha-community.org. If you are not running a version of Koha that has has a release maintainer (currently 3.8.x, 3.10.x, 3.12.x, and 3.14.x), we strongly urge you to upgrade to a supported version. Re: [Koha] Duplicate checks in acquisitions module
by Manos PETRIDIS 07 Feb '14

07 Feb '14

Just realised that the condition I described in my previous message might be the one noted in http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7132 As I see no other comments on the bug page, might one understand that this is the expected behaviour? If not when entering an order, shouldn't there be a duplicates check when a suggestion is approved? MP From: Manos PETRIDIS [mailto:egpetridis@gmail.com] Sent: Friday, January 31, 2014 12:19 AM To: 'koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz' Subject: Duplicate checks in acquisitions module Hi people, just a question on duplicate checks: Trying to use koha bit by bit, I've been lately adding my Amazon wishlists to koha suggestions. The other day I bought a book from my suggestions list and marked the suggestion as accepted. Upon the book's arrival, I entered it in koha. Then, some days later, I decided to use the acquisitions module for the first time, taking this last book as an example. Well, to make a short story shorter, koha let me enter a duplicate entry, at least as ISBN is concerned. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22465174/20140125_koha_a.JPG https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22465174/20140125_koha_b.JPG https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22465174/20140125_koha_c.JPG https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22465174/20140125_koha_d.JPG Koha usually checks for similar entry attempts, but apparently not when one does it via acquisitions. Is this normal, do I miss something? I use the latest koha packages, on debian, and have only a single library defined. Kind regards, Manos PETRIDIS http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8631

Prices and tax in koha (also send on koha-devel)
by BOUIS Sonia 06 Feb '14

06 Feb '14

Hi, I'm a French librarian working at the University Lyon3 and in charge of Koha. I want to know your feelings about the prices processing in koha and the question of the tax. >From 3.10 version, some prices are recalculated according to this tax before they are stocked in the database. It's a pretty good thing but not all the prices are recalculated and there's sometimes a bad calculation : tax is added or subtracted 2 times... Another difficulty is that there's a lot of tables in acquisitions and not all of them works in the same way... So I wonder if a decision about the prices and a correction of all the tables in acquisitions isn't necessary... My suggestion is to stock all the price including tax and to calculate the price in the budget and in all the displaying tables according to the preferences in the vendor. I think, all the scripts of calculation and the template for displaying tables have to be correct. It could be a new goal for koha 3.16 or perhaps for koha 3.18... I'm sorry if my explanations are short and not very clear but I want to know what the community thinks of it.
