I have a requirement of hosting a Free Library management system for a Non Profit organization with a noble cause. We were able to manage and get a free VPS hosting space for ourselves with the following configuration: OS: CentOS 5.x 32bit Bandwidth limit: 500 GB Memory: 512 MB Disk: 20 GB *Absolutely No Support* offered by web hosting company as this is a Free VPS account, so I am all on my own with the help of the Koha forums and mailing lists. I am using a Mac for all the operations and unfortunately the web console provided by webhosters do not work with it as a Java applet has not been signed against the Apple authority. So, I am using SSH to remotely login via terminal. Questions: 1. Is it possible to install Koha 3.12 or 3.14 on CentOS 5.x? 2. I referred this post <http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Koha-on-CentOS-5-2-td3059049.html> but not being able to get it to work. What are the packages which I should get before I start installing Koha into it. 3. apt-get does not work for me. I have wget installed but no dpkg as explained in this post <http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-965602.html> . 4. I am totally new to VPS thing, where exactly should I copy all the files etc.? Thank you for any help / suggestion which you might offer. Zebra & Yaz for 32-bit architecture - Centos 5.x

I am trying to configure my VPS by installing pre-requisites for Koha 3.14. My VPS configuration: OS: CentOS 5.x 32bit Bandwidth limit: 500 GB Memory: 512 MB Disk: 20 GB I am trying to install Zebra and Yaz as explained in this Wiki: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_3.10_on_Centos_6.3_x86_64_en#Koha_… But, I see that there is no 32-bit rpm packets available for CentOS from where I can install the Zebra packets. I have checked for the rpm's over here: http://ftp.indexdata.dk/pub/zebra/redhat/centos/5.5/ All they have got is this for x86_64 architecture: http://ftp.indexdata.dk/pub/zebra/redhat/centos/5.5/RPMS/x86_64/ What can I do now? Can I blindly install the 64-bit packets and perform a rpm install in the VPS? Will it work? Any alternatives? IMPORTANT: Koha security release

The Koha community is releasing a security update for all supported and recent unsupported versions of Koha. The security update is available in the following new releases being made today: * 3.14.3 * 3.12.10 * 3.10.13 * 3.8.23 The following security bugs are fixed by this update: * Bug 11660: tools/pdfViewer.pl could be used to read arbitrary files on the server * Bug 11661: the staff interface help editor could be used to modify or create arbitrary files on the server with the privileges of the Apache user * Bug 11662: member-picupload.pl could be used to write to arbitrary files on the server with the privileges of the Apache user * Bug 11666: the MARC framework import/export function did not require authentication, and could be used to perform unexpected SQL commands The fix for bug 11666 removes SQL as a supported format for importing or exporting MARC frameworks. We recommend that you upgrade immediately to get the fixes for these security issues. However, if you are not able to perform the upgrade right away, you can mitigate against the issues by performing the following actions: * deleting the pdfViewer.pl script * deleting the member-picupload.pl script * making edithelp.pl not be executable, e.g., by doing chmod a-x edithelp.pl * making import_export_framework.pl not be executable, which will disable the MARC framework import and export functionality Our thanks to John Lightsey for finding and reporting the issues. The 3.14.3 and 3.10.13 releases also contain unrelated bugfixes which are described in their release notes. Please note that if you installed from a tarball, you may need to manually delete pdfViewer.pl and member-picupload.pl, even after you upgrade. Users of the Debian packages for 3.12.x and 3.14.x (and master) can get the latest release by running apt-get update followed by apt-get upgrade. Tarballs are also available and can be downloaded from http://download.koha-community.org. If you are not running a version of Koha that has has a release maintainer (currently 3.8.x, 3.10.x, 3.12.x, and 3.14.x), we strongly urge you to upgrade to a supported version. Just realised that the condition I described in my previous message might be the one noted in http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7132 As I see no other comments on the bug page, might one understand that this is the expected behaviour? If not when entering an order, shouldn't there be a duplicates check when a suggestion is approved? Then, some days later, I decided to use the acquisitions module for the first time, taking this last book as an example. Prices and tax in koha (also send on koha-devel)

Hi, I'm a French librarian working at the University Lyon3 and in charge of Koha. I want to know your feelings about the prices processing in koha and the question of the tax. >From 3.10 version, some prices are recalculated according to this tax before they are stocked in the database. It's a pretty good thing but not all the prices are recalculated and there's sometimes a bad calculation : tax is added or subtracted 2 times... Another difficulty is that there's a lot of tables in acquisitions and not all of them works in the same way... So I wonder if a decision about the prices and a correction of all the tables in acquisitions isn't necessary... My suggestion is to stock all the price including tax and to calculate the price in the budget and in all the displaying tables according to the preferences in the vendor. I think, all the scripts of calculation and the template for displaying tables have to be correct. It could be a new goal for koha 3.16 or perhaps for koha 3.18... I'm sorry if my explanations are short and not very clear but I want to know what the community thinks of it. Urgent needed: Fines calculation

Hi Please help me to find a solution for correcting the overdue fine calculating process. It seems the system behave unusual manner. We, Open University of Sri Lanka recently moved to Koha, our installation is less than 1 month old. Our Koha has serious overdue fines calculation error. For an example in a category (lets called 'UGS')- ( same set of rule fine policy) not apply same way to its the members It hard to believe, I repeatedly checked the category rules and Cron but not any unusual. Item search without searching for bib record id

When we search for items, we often search for the bar code, but then some books show up that get matched on the biblio record, which is confusing. Is there a setting somewhere that we can set so that searches don't match on bib record number? adding filed 949 and volume in item interface

hi, I have the following challenges, can anybody help me out! 1. I have tried to add field 949 to my koha structure, after adding it does not reflect, what could be the problem? 2. in my item, there is no field for volume, assuming i have books with the following characteristics: volume 1, copy1, volume 2 copy1, volume 2 copy2, how will i enter this information in my item field?
