Frameworks
by Paul A 26 Mar '14

26 Mar '14

A dual question if I may: a) Does anyone know in the staff "Add MARC record" page (/koha/cataloguing/addbiblio.pl), how to make the "default" framework totally disappear? If not, how to set an alternate framework (say, BKS) as the "option selected" in the drop down box? Our cataloguers have, over the last few years, unfortunately "forgotten" to save to the correct BKS framework (itself derived from the default) about 700 biblios, so... b) manipulating MySQL directly is trivial (I have tried it on our sandbox) apparently with no loss of integrity. Has anyone ever tried this? and are there any down-sides that I have not detected? Thanks in advance, Paul

Development for 'On Demand' Printouts of Overdue Bills
by Lisa Gugliotti 25 Mar '14

25 Mar '14

Hi Koha Community, We are a small public library that is very interested in having the ability to print out overdue notices on demand for patrons who don't have email, or who don't want to share their email accounts with us. We'd like them in letter format so we can snail mail them out. We've tried Mail Merge from a Koha report, but it's difficult and tedious to get patrons with more than one item overdue to work correctly on a single bill. Would any other entities be interested in funding a development that would allow Koha to print individual overdue bills on demand? Thank you, Lisa Gugliotti Reference Librarian The Henry Carter Hull Library 10 Killingworth Turnpike Clinton, CT 06413 860-669-2342 lisa(a)hchlibrary.org www.hchlibrary.org

Lisa, Our NExpress consortia would be interested in being a partner on this development. About serials module
by volkan sonmez 25 Mar '14

25 Mar '14

Our librarian who is responsible for Serials asks about some properties in KOHA Serials modules. He has used Millennium ILS before. 1- Library Has: The library subscribes to a magazine and this field shows which issues are currently in the library. 2- In the "Status" of magazine, it will show that the magazine is in the binding office for repairs 3- The magazine's binding color Are these properties available in KOHA. If so is there any document about this subject.

cannot edit public list, follow-up/part 2
by Amy Schuler 25 Mar '14

25 Mar '14

Dear All Awhile back I posted that I had inadvertently done some things in root that I should not have done. Specifically, creating a public list that I am now unable to edit or delete. See original thread http://lists.katipo.co.nz/pipermail/koha/2014-February/038728.html. Following Robin Sheat's advice (thanks Robin!), I attempted to take ownership of that list according to the instructions here, http://lists.katipo.co.nz/pipermail/koha/2014-February/038751.html. As suggested in these instructions, I did first confirm that the list owner is null. However, upon trying Robin's instructions to take over the list, I got the following error: mysql> UPDATE virtualshelves SET owner=1082 WHERE owner IS NULL; ERROR 1452 (23000): Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails (`koha_library`.`virtualshelves`, CONSTRAINT `virtualshelves_ibfk_1` FOREIGN KEY (`owner`) REFERENCES `borrowers` (`borrowernumber`) ON DELETE SET NULL ON UPDATE SET NULL) Of course I have googled the error, but am not familiar enough with mySQL or database structure generally to make much sense of it. Can anyone translate this and tell me how to get past this error and achieve my ultimate goal of taking ownership of that list? I am running Koha 3.10.04.000, mySQL v. 14.14. Let me know if you need more info or details about the structure of my database. Please be explicit in your advice. Note that it took me a few weeks just to get to this point with Robin's instructions : ) Thanks to everyone, Amy Schuler Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies schulera(a)caryinstitute.org

Item Statuses
by Jordan Barker 24 Mar '14

24 Mar '14

Hi, Does anyone know why the WITHDRAWN, LOST, NOT_LOAN, etc. statuses are separated in the items tables? I can sort of understand for LOST & NOT_LOAN since they specify different types of LOST & NOT_LOAN, but WITHDRAWN, DAMAGED, RESTRICTED just seem to be true or false type statuses. So I guess my real question is if I don't need to specify those different types of LOST or NOT_LOAN, should I just add statuses like LOST or ON ORDER to the NOT_LOAN Authorized Values and work from there?
