Our company is one of the most reputed company in for providing library solution services and has been doing research and promoting Koha for the last couple of years in Vietnam. We are pleased to announce that after a year of effort and testing, we are able to share the full Koha 3.12 Vietnamese translation to Koha Community. The 4 Vietnamese PO files for Koha 3.12 have been submitted to Koha-translate site under username kohavn and they are waiting for approval (http://translate.koha-community.org/vi/312/) We are also in the process of translating Koha 3.16 into Vietnamese and we hope we could made the full contribution in this July. Our past communications with Koha community were through our sales director, Vu Duy Lan who introduced himself to the community http://lists.katipo.co.nz/pipermail/koha/2013-September/037469.html and informed the community about Koha Training in Vietnam http://lists.katipo.co.nz/public/koha/2013-December/038092.html. We hope that this first contribution will mark as the beginning of our official involvement to Koha community and we would like to be a part of the community at full scales as a development contributor and a Koha service provider. Thank you all very much and we are looking forward to your comments and advices. Re: [Koha] FW: Request to be added as Koha Support Provider

Agreed, Robin and Galen. While it is a personal inclination to have more community info, it doesn't necessarily make sense to require certain content (other than the link) in the first place. As Galen points out, we really don't want this list to represent any endorsement, and the more rules we have, the more likely it is to be interpreted as such. I suppose, at the end of the day, the onus is on clients to figure out their needs. Even if companies represent themselves as "endorsed", "official", or "registered", I suppose all we can do is state on the Paid Support page that no such status exists. As I mentioned in my original email, Interleaf certainly has a +1 from me. On a related note, the list might be due for a prune. I don't think "Mill Run Technology Solutions" is in operation anymore? Or at least, their website appears defunct. -David -----Original Message----- Date: Sun, 29 Jun 2014 21:47:33 -0700 From: Galen Charlton <gmc(a)esilibrary.com> To: Robin Sheat <robin(a)catalyst.net.nz> Cc: Koha-List <koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz> Subject: Re: [Koha] FW: Request to be added as Koha Support Provider Message-ID: <CAPLnt67-CPGyrtoB7FLr8vjQv84n9wYqkrH41e-nSx_vU8DjcA(a)mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Hi, On Sun, Jun 29, 2014 at 7:59 PM, Robin Sheat <robin(a)catalyst.net.nz> wrote: > I'm not convinced we can reasonably justify forcing people to make > editorial changes to their content though. Change Koha Database Name
by Phillip Ponchot 30 Jun '14

The Koha installation on my new server named the database koha_koha. I would like to change the database name to koha which I can do easily in mysql but I want to know what I would have to do in the koha program to recognize the new database? I'm just trying to save myself hours looking for the solution, so if anyone has done this and knows the answer please let me know. Thanks. Phillip

Re: [Koha] Notifications Messaging and “Patron category administration”

Hi all, Anyone can help with “borrowers-force-messaging-defaults”, how we can run this? Thanks & Best Regards, Mohammed Nashbat Academic Resource Librarian From: Mohammad Nashbat Sent: Thursday, June 19, 2014 4:52 PM To: koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz Subject: Notifications Messaging and “Patron category administration” Hi all, We are running Koha 3.14.05 on debian3.2 connected with our ldap, we fixed our “Patron category administration” to do the messaging but whenever a new user login to Koha his account is created correct but the messaging is unchecked, while we did check them under “Patron category administration”. I’m not sure why this is happening, but while I’m googling, I found some Koha users talking about “borrowers-force-messaging-defaults” but couldn’t run it. Any help in this matter is appreciated. Note:- if we create a user manual not through the ldap, the messaging setting works and all checked. OSDC 2014 - 4-7 November on the Gold Coast
by Robin Sheat 30 Jun '14

Who fancies a visit to Queensland's Gold Coast? You do. OSDC 2014 (Open Source Developer's Conference) runs from the 4th to the 7th of November at the Griffith University Gold Coast Campus, QLD. The call for proposals is now open: http://2014.osdc.com.au/cfp Get in quick though, it's only open until midnight of July 4th (Presumably AEST, so that's early on the 4th for most of you who are closer to the non-Australasian side of the date-line.) At least two Koha developers have already submitted talks, you don't want us to outshine you, do you‽ Even if you don't fancy the idea of talking (though you should consider it, it's fun), it's worth coming along to see what's happening in the world of Open Source/Free Software development. Here's the theme of this year's conference: * Open - Open Source software, hardware, data and standards (protocols) enable higher quality, more secure products, and faster innovation. * Inclusive - Openness enables and encourages exploration, the foundation of education. Making products accessible to for instance vision impaired people becomes easier. Affordable products are available to those with less money. Women, kids, and many other groups can get involved more easily. These are all opportunities, we must still work to make them happen! * Connected - The last 18 months has seen a tremendous rise in the development of connected hardware, the connected home, wearables and sensor equipped devices. Devices such as the illusive connected Fridge and Washing Machine through to advanced medical applications and health services. Though, based on previous experience, this is just a guideline. There'll be a broad range of topics being talked about. Maybe even by you! -- Robin Sheat Catalyst IT Ltd. ✆ +64 4 803 2204 GPG: 5FA7 4B49 1E4D CAA4 4C38 8505 77F5 B724 F871 3BDF

I also struggled to find the link back to the Koha community, although I notice that it is in the same style as the other links on the page. While I think this has web accessibility/usability issues, I suppose it's no less visible than the other links on the page. Personally, I don't really like the description of the community or the history, but that might just be in regard to my own preferences. I would probably include a reference to the Horowhenua Library Trust as the original sponsor, and make the reference to the Koha Community a bit more obvious. Rather than saying "With a large community of active users, the emphasis is on sharing information across all Koha users", I might say something like "Koha is developed internationally by the Koha Community [link here] where the emphasis is on collaboration and cooperation." With the exception of the late mention of "Over 120 developers world-wide" and an earlier mention of "support companies", it sort of sounds like the "community" might just be Interleaf's client base. Another idea might be to replace the following "Development is sponsored by libraries of varying types and sizes, volunteers, and support companies worldwide. Developed in New Zealand, the first system went live in 2000. There are over 10,000 systems in operation world-wide" with something like "Originally developed by Katipo for the Horowhenua Library Trust in New Zealand, the first system went live in 2000. There are now many systems in operation in many languages on every continent, except perhaps Antarctica. The Koha Community [link here] (a global community of libraries of varying types and sizes, volunteers, and support companies) now develops Koha collectively and provides two major releases a year and maintenance releases every month." Like I said though, that might just be personal preference. That's what I think when I think about "Companies must show their support of the Koha Community". I think Interleaf does add a visible link (even if it is a bit tough to spot) and genuinely offer Koha services, so it's probably all right to list them. I'll leave that one up to the volunteers who manage the listing. I am curious how it was decided there are 10,000+ Koha systems (I'm sure there are, and I think I've seen that number before, but the actual number of Koha systems is a mystery to all, I think) and that there are 120+ developers (I believe that docs/history.txt states that there have been 246 developers as of the writing of this email, so while 120+ is true...it just seems an odd number to choose recently). I don't know if it's worthwhile to revisit the rules about what constitutes support for the community by adding a visible link. After other issues regarding the Koha support vendor listings, I would be curious to find out how many people chose their vendor based on that page... In any case, +1 for adding Interleaf to the listing based on the existing rules. -David -----Original Message----- From: Koha [mailto:koha-bounces@lists.katipo.co.nz] On Behalf Of koha-request(a)lists.katipo.co.nz Sent: Monday, 30 June 2014 10:00 AM To: koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz Subject: Koha Digest, Vol 104, Issue 60 Send Koha mailing list submissions to koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.katipo.co.nz/mailman/listinfo/koha or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to koha-request(a)lists.katipo.co.nz You can reach the person managing the list at koha-owner(a)lists.katipo.co.nz When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of Koha digest..."
