Migrating from L4U
by Curtis Rempel 06 Oct '14

06 Oct '14

Hello and Kia ora, How am I doing so far? :-) I'm brand new to koha and working on a project to migrate a small church library (about 3000 items) from L4U to koha running on Debian on Amazon Web Services. The Linux side of things is the easy part as I've worked with Linux since 1994. Our goal is to move away from a single user type application loaded on a single laptop to a multi-user web based application accessible from anywhere with additional features. After doing some research, koha seems to fit our requirements nicely. I've done the koha installation a number of times on a virtual test server (to take advantage of snapshot and rollback) to better familiarize myself with the various options, as best I can anyway, not really knowing a Marc record if one fell out of the sky and hit me on the head. I have also exported patrons (munging the data through a few awk and sed scripts to do data correction and formatting) and Marc records from L4U and imported the same. As far as I can tell so far, both look ok in koha through my newbie glasses. I have a few questions (and I'm sure I'll have many more as I go along) such as: 1) For anyone who has done a similar migration from L4U, what has been your experience and do you have any recommendations or things to look out for? 2) I'm not sure that I am able to capture circulation information and transfer that to koha. If not, would it make more sense to do a gradual migration where items are returned in L4U to then be checked out in koha going forward until all items have been returned? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. This will be an interesting project for sure. Cheers, Curtis Rempel

Should Koha support old versions of Internet Explorer?
by Owen Leonard 04 Oct '14

04 Oct '14

There is a discussion happening on the developers list about whether Koha should continue to support old versions of Internet Explorer. While we don't generally test in Internet Explorer, in practice we attempt to fix browser incompatibility bugs reported for IE7 or higher. The benefit, from the developers' point of view, of dropping support for IE7 (released in 2006) and maybe even IE8 (released in 2009) would be our ability to upgrade certain third-party libraries on which Koha is built, enhancing our ability to modernize the interface. However, we don't want to unnecessarily exclude users who are forced to use IE7 or IE8. I would like to solicit your opinions on the matter: - In your use of Koha are you required to use any version of Internet Explorer and if so what version? - In your use of Koha do you work with library patrons who are required to use any version of Internet Explorer? - In your opinion what should be the minimum supported version of Internet Explorer? I'm not counting votes, but I am interested in hearing everyone's opinions. Thanks, Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org

wheezy apt repo
by mourik jan heupink - merit 03 Oct '14

03 Oct '14

Hi, Just to be sure...: koha on wheezy is supported? As the apt repo looks a bit squeeze-ish: deb http://debian.koha-community.org/koha squeeze main I tried 'wheezy' instead of 'squeeze', but that didn't work. Using the above source list I am able to install koha-common. Is that normal the way..? It looks a bit unlogical to me...? We have a running koha on squeeze, but I'd like to move that install to wheezy on kvm -> meaning a new install. Regards, MJ
