Re: [Koha] Change search engine in koha 3.16 (Katrin Fischer)

Hi Katrin, I did some research about zebra before. This search engine doesn't support Quotation for exact match. Actually, I prefer to change search engine to Solr but as you and Jonathan mentioned before, koha doesn't support solr so I will try to modify zebra to get better search result. Thank you for your support. Zebra problems
by All Saints Cathedral Library 10 Nov '14

10 Nov '14

Hello All, Recently we replaced our Koha 3.06 with a new install of Koha 3.16 on Linux Mint 13 XFCE via Ubuntu packages. Since the upgrade, searching for books, both from the old database and recently entered, in both the staff client and the opac yields only books in the reservoir in the staff section. In the terminal it looks like Zebra is working, with errors for some, but not all, records: exporting biblio ==================== 1..............................................................................101............... 3301..............................error retrieving biblio 3518 at /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl line 679. in/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl line 679. .....error retrieving biblio 7462 at /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl line 679. 7201................... Records exported: 7066 ==================== REINDEXING zebra ==================== 11:40:57-28/10 zebraidx(3813) [warn] Record didn't contain match fields in (bib1,Local-number) ==================== CLEANING Zebra configuration information ================================ Zebra biblio directory = /var/lib/koha/cathlib/biblios Zebra authorities directory = /var/lib/koha/cathlib/authorities Koha directory = /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin Lockfile = /var/lock/koha/cathlib/rebuild/rebuild..LCK BIBLIONUMBER in : 090$c BIBLIOITEMNUMBER in : 090$d ================================ ==================== exporting authority ==================== Records exported: 0 ==================== REINDEXING zebra ==================== skipping biblios ==================== CLEANING I have tried resetting the permissions as described in the Koha wiki, but that did not help. Are there other permissions I should check? Which ones? What should the permissions be? Should the user names and passwords for Mysql and Zebra and Koha all be the same? When I investigated the path all the files seemed to be there, but the /usr/ bin/ zebraidx file is, according to gedit, “corrupted”. Is that the problem? What should be in it? Can I remove it and download a single replacement file? What would the commands be? I have also noticed that ' libmarc-xml-perl_1.0.1-1_all.deb ' is sitting in my home directory. Where does it belong? If I download it again as in the Koha wiki Koha on Ubuntu packages – long, I get a message “Permission denied”. Hi Bob: That sounds like a great idea. I've been keen on a Road Map for a while now. I also like the idea of the two new roles. I'm not volunteering for either, but I think it would be rather useful to have people in those shoes! Re: [Koha] Zebra problems
by David Cook 10 Nov '14

10 Nov '14

Hi Helen: I'm not sure if someone has already helped you, but I can see at least one obvious problem just looking at your email. I assume that you're using MARC21? It looks like your Koha to MARC mappings are incorrect. > BIBLIONUMBER in :???? 090$c > BIBLIOITEMNUMBER in : 090$d This should be: > BIBLIONUMBER in :???? 999$c > BIBLIOITEMNUMBER in : 999$d At this point, you'll want to examine your records. Do you also have database access? Where is the biblionumber being stored in these records? Is it in 090$c or is it in 999$c? (The number from the biblio.biblionumber column should probably appear in the 999$c.) If it is 999$c, then continue following these instructions. If it's 090$c, then I'll have to respond again later :p. If you examine your records, I bet that they have 999$c and 999$d fields, but not 090$c and 090$d fields. So the first step will be to go to "Administration", then "Koha to MARC mapping". You'll want to change "biblionumber" so that it uses Tag 999 and subfield "c". Then you'll want to do the same with "biblioitemnumber" mapping it to Tag 999 and subfield "d". Then try a full re-index of your bibliographic records (e.g. perl rebuild_zebra.pl -b -x -r -v -v -v). The extra "-v" flags are handy as they print out more information about what's going on as you're indexing. Hopefully that should make you right as rain again. If you find that your biblionumber is being stored sometimes in 090$c and sometimes in 999$c, it might be an idea to run "touch_all_biblios.pl" after you've changed your "Koha to MARC mapping" to 999$c (and 999$d). That should put the biblionumber (and biblioitemnumber) in the right place, and you can try re-indexing again. Let me/us know how you go! Re: [Koha] Change search engine in koha 3.16
by David Cook 10 Nov '14

It's worth mentioning that the problem isn't with Zebra per se, but rather with how the query is being parsed before being sent to Zebra. While I've outlined some ideas on how to fix the quotation problem, I haven't had time/energy/money to fix it. It's also worth mentioning that quotation marks aren't typically for an "exact" match, but rather for a "phrase" match, which the Advanced Search form already supports (without a need for quotation marks). Invitation for Libraries using Koha to participate in the annual Library Automation Perceptions survey
by Marshall Breeding 09 Nov '14

09 Nov '14

To all libraries using Koha: I'm collecting data for this year's International Library Automation Perceptions survey. This survey, now in its eighth annual iteration, provides an opportunity for libraries to register their perceptions of the strategic automation products they use, organizations that provide these products, and the quality of support delivered. The survey also probes at considerations for migrating to new systems and the level of interest in open source products. As open source software supported both by the general community and by a variety of different service firms, some special considerations apply to Koha. In the libraries.org directory, Koha is represented by a combination of the name Koha and the primary support organization involved. (For example Koha - Catalyst IT, Koha -- ByWater Solutions). Libraries relying entirely on community support or internal resources are represented as Koha - Independent. If there are any special support arrangements not covered by these conventions, just mention that in the comments area of the survey. In this way the survey will be able to reflect both the functionality of the Koha software and the quality of support provided. This model of representing libraries using Koha isn't ideal, but is a pragmatic approach that aggregates all users of Koha while also segregating the different support scenarios. While the numeric rating scales support the statistical results of the study, it's the comments offered that provide the most insight into the current state of library automation satisfaction. Comments will be published in the survey results, redacted to conceal text that might identify the individual or organization responding. The raw data for the survey will not be shared, but reports are available that provide a variety of ways to view results. Please help your fellow librarians who might be in the process of evaluating library automation options by responding to the survey. Any information regarding vendor performance and product quality can be helpful when making strategic decisions regarding automation alternatives. A large number of responses strengthen the impact of the survey and the subsequent report. If you have responded in previous years, please respond again this year to help identify any trends regarding improvement or worsening of the products or support services. For more information about the survey, for instructions on how to participate, and to see results of previous year's survey reports, see: http://librarytechnology.org/web/breeding/AutomationSurvey/ I hope that all libraries using Koha will respond. Feel free to forward this request to any other library-related list. Please let me know if there are any questions regarding the survey. Problem with Apache, Wordpress & Koha
by Lenora Oftedahl 07 Nov '14

07 Nov '14

Apparently, our installation has decided to go wonky. I'm thinking malware, but we can't seem to ferret out the difficulty. Yes, we're on a slightly older version. Apache starts up. Koha & Wordpress start up. The number of users immediately jumps to 150 in the Koha database, blocking the real people from using the software. Any clues? Anyone else experienced this difficulty?
