OPAC - "Log in to your account" link broken?
by Craig Butosi 30 Sep '15

30 Sep '15

Hi all, Running Koha 3.20.04 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x64 (VPS) Library: http://www.library.craigbutosi.ca Problem: Clicking "Log in to your account" link ( i.e., /cgi-bin/koha/opac-user.pl) on the OPAC homepage (top-left) seems broken; no activity after clicking, no page loading after clicking. Some settings of relevance: a. Opacuserlogin preference is set to allow (obviously). b. Browser: Firefox and Chrome settings are set to allow popups, Javascript, etc. c. Opacuserjs includes a JS script to hide default login window in opacnavright (tested link after removing this script, no change) It doesn't look like a browser issue from what I can see (though it might be). Interestingly, if I navigate to Lists --> Log in to create your own lists, I get to the /cgi-bin/koha/opac-main.pl page and can login no problem. It's just the popup window on the homepage that's not displaying. It almost seems to me like a Javascript or browser issue, but I have no idea. Anyone else experiencing issues with this link / popup window? Thanks all! Craig Butosi, MA, MLIS, B Mus (Hons.) Using Koha to manage equipment loans
by Elaine Bradtke 30 Sep '15

30 Sep '15

We have several laptops, cameras and recording equipment that various members of staff use, take off site, etc. The current method of keeping track of them is inadequate, and I proposed that we use Koha for checking them in and out, placing holds, tracking use, etc; all functions Koha can do. We don't want the equipment to appear in the public catalogue, and I don't want non-library staff poking around in the nether regions of the library catalogue. But I also don't want the library staff to be burdened with keeping track of equipment that belongs to and is generally used by another department. I'd like to hear how other libraries have handled this. I am considering setting up another branch, just for equipment. Would it be easy to limit access to one branch but keep the main collection open for all? Or would I have to set up a completely different Koha installation? Our test site for instance is completely separate, limited to a couple of IP addresses, and the OPAC requires a login - something like that would work for equipment. -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 (This number is for the English Folk Dance and Song Society in London, England. Label export failed to load PDF document
by Caitlin Kleinpaste 29 Sep '15

29 Sep '15

I'm using 3.20.03.000. When I try to export barcode labels using the label creator, instead of exporting a pdf is gives me an error saying "Failed to Load PDF Document". I've never had this issue before and have been using the label creator for a year. It's only a problem for barcodes, not spine labels. Also only when exporting a pdf, not for xml or csv. We create a batch using barcodes copied from a excel spreadsheet. (We've also copied them out of word-- the formatting doesn't make a difference.) This particular batch has 284 barcodes. We have tried it with fewer-- it was ok with 2 and 10, but not with 9 or any number higher than 10. Any ideas of what it might be or other things that we could try would be appreciated. Thanks, Caitlin Kleinpaste

Re: [Koha] Using Athens to log in to Koha?
by David Cook 29 Sep '15

29 Sep '15

Hi Natalee: I think that Shibboleth authentication has been available in Koha since version 3.18. Martin Renvoize from PTFS-Europe did the majority of the work there I believe, so I'm sure he'd know of some libraries using Shibboleth. http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Shibboleth_Configuration Regarding Athens, I don't think Koha officially supports Athens/OpenAthens authentication. Prosentient Systems has implemented it locally, but I don't think the patches are suitable for upstreaming at this time. It was implemented in a way that might not make sense for other libraries and in conjunction with other local enhancements which also don't necessarily make sense for all Koha users. Since you're in the UK, I suggest getting in touch with Martin at PTFS-Europe. Purchase suggestions with existing bibliographic record
by Iming Chan 28 Sep '15

28 Sep '15

Dear all, Just looking to start use the Acquisitions > Purchase Suggestions feature in 3.20 and I need some help ... We have some catalogue records without item(s) that may have been deleted earlier. The current purchase suggestion form caters for titles that the library has never held previously. If we use the form, how do we link the entry to an existing bibliographic record? How do you manage titles that already exist in your catalogue?? Looking forward to your response. Holds on items waiting to be pick-up or in transit
by BOUIS Sonia 28 Sep '15

28 Sep '15

Hello, I think there's an issue with the possibility to place a hold on items waiting to be pick-up or in transit when you choose that on shelf holds are not allowed. In this case, items are not checked-out so there are considered to be available. But, they aren't, they are not on a shelf ready to be chosen by a patron but stored aside. So, other patrons should place a hold on it as they couldn't go on shelves to take it. I have been testing it on a master and it's the same behaviour. So, I have 2 questions : 1. Does everybody share the same logic than me? 2. There's a bug describing this problem (http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4319) but the status is reopened and the patch had been pushed in 2011. Should we open a new bug?
