Editing content of MARC field 300 - is this the way to go?

Hi We are working with Debian 8 and a package installation of Koha 16.11.04. The database is filled with bibliographic records which are connected to tables "issues" and "biblioitems", also they are linked to authority data. We want to edit the content of MARC field 300 which may look like: <datafield tag="300" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">1 map : col. ; 34 x 47 cm</subfield> <subfield code="c">9 pictures</subfield> </datafield> to (for example): <datafield tag="300" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">NEW CONTENT FOR THIS RECORD</subfield> </datafield> It seems not possible to do this using Koha menu "Tools > MARC modification templates" since the new content of MARC field 300 is different for every records and I would have to create many thousands of template actions. Thus I have tried the following: 1. I have unloaded the content of field "marcxml" for every record in table "biblioitems" and cut off everything except the tags and content for MARC field 300. I have then created an SQL statement replacing this content with the new content for the affected record: UPDATE biblioitems SET marcxml = REPLACE( marcxml, '<datafield tag="300" ind1=" " ind2=" ">\n <subfield code="a">1 map :</subfield>\n <subfield code="b">col. ;</subfield>\n <subfield code="c">34 x 47 cm. fold. to 25 x 10 cm.</subfield>', '<datafield tag="300" ind1=" " ind2=" ">\n <subfield code="a">NEW CONTENT FOR THIS RECORD</subfield>') WHERE ExtractValue(biblioitems.marcxml,'//controlfield[@tag="001"]') = 5451649; 2. Like this the content for MARC field 300 in field "marcxml" was correctly changed and I can immediately see the desired result in the Koha OPAC and staff client. No reindexing was needed. 3. But the content of tag <leader> in field "marcxml" has NOT changed (so it still shows the old number of characters of the record). I don't know if this is a problem or how it could be easily solved. My question: Is this the way to go or does anyone have another idea how to accomplish this task? Maybe this is even described in some documentation? 008 form of material will only ever say Books

Please tak a look at biblio 75117 - http://catalogue.efdss.org/ It's a sound recording, but it insists that it is a book. The 007 is set for sound recording, but the material type in the 008 always says Books. I have tried at least a dozen times (and two different browsers) and I can not change it to say sound recording. Every time I edit the 008 it changes back to book. If I edit other parts of the 008, those changes stick, but not the type of material. I downloaded the record, edited it off line and uploaded it again, and the 008 *still *reverted to book. I know the Fixed field pop up editors have compatibility problems with adblock and such, so I've used Firefox without add-ons or extensions, and also a plain version of Chrome. We're currently running 16.11.08 I am checking with the cataloguers to see if they have seen this elsewhere, or if it's just one rogue record. They're about to start in on a large collection of recordings so I hope to solve this soon. Any ideas? Anyone else seen this sort of thing? overdue notice text

Hi All ~ I've been editing the text of our overdue notices and adding the <item></item> fields, but after I made these edits, we are no longer getting overdue notices. This is an example of how I have used the <item></item> fields: The following item(s) is/are currently overdue: <item> Title:<<biblio.title>> Author: <<biblio.author>> Due Date: <<issues.date_due>> Fine: <<items.fine>> </item> I've checked the documentation and I think that I am using the item></item> fields correctly correctly, but since this was the one thing I've changed I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong? Problems with Indexer in koha 16.11.xx

Good morning We are experiencing problems with Koha indexer at two differents koha server , it is not indexing new records...both are fresh installs in debian 8 with database upgrade from 3.22 koha version. We have realized that new records are not indexed by the indexer, If we change the indexer to cronjob it works fine, and if we launch the koha-rebuid-zebra it also works fine Anybody has faced a simular situation? Availability of Koha 17.05 in Ubuntu packages

Managing Suggestions - hold books for patron who requested

Hello everybody, My colleagues just asked me if it's possible in Koha to reserve automatically, after received, a book which has been suggested to the patron who has suggested. I have done some searches but I only found a pretty old bug https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=1887 Does anybody know if it is possible in the last koha versions? Do you have the same need in your libraries? Koha circ & fine rules based on CCODE instead of item type

Dear Colleagues, I thought that I remember someone stating that Koha's circ and fine rules can be configured using collection codes instead of item types. Have any of you heard that too? My institution wants to circulate new videos for one week instead of three, but if we configure the circ and fine rules using item types, then a patron would not be able to view all of the DVDs by clicking the "DVD" item type search limiter unless they also thought to click the "New DVD" item type limiter. It make more sense to me if the item type reflects the physical manifestation of the item instead of how an item circulates. I hope that example made sense. Duplicate marc records and lost records after cataloguing

Hey all,i need some help on this, Our database keeps showing duplicate records some with no itemes and when we try delete that does not work.They are like permanent records here. A new problem has now occured,after catalouging and adding new records on serching these titles the search result is "not found",BUT when issuing the same title,then that works..Looks like our database has lost it.
