We're looking into adding an independent branch to our instance of Koha (16.11) - a completely separate library with different circulation rules, opening hours and etc. Looking at this in the manual makes me wonder if we're going to run into trouble. Has anyone added an independent branch years after going live? 1.2.4.2. IndependentBranches <http://manual.koha-community.org/16.11/en/administration.html#IndependentBr…> . . . . . Description: - This preference should only be used by library systems which are sharing a single Koha installation among multiple branches but are considered independent organizations, meaning they do not share material or patrons with other branches and do not plan to change that in the future. If set to 'Prevent' it increases the security between library branches by: prohibiting staff users from logging into another branch from within the staff client, filtering out patrons from patron searches who are not a part of the login branch conducting the search, limiting the location choices to the login branch when adding or modifying an item record, preventing users from other branch locations from placing holds or checking out materials from library branches other than their own, and preventing staff from editing item records which belong to other library branches. All of these security safeguards can be overridden only by the superlibrarian, the highest level of privileges. link_bibs_to_authorities problem

Dear List, We imported a butch of bibs & a butch of authorities from koha 3.18.05 to koha 17.05, after using link_bibs_to_authorities.pl we have got such results Number of bibs checked: 5817 Number of bibs modified: 5701 Number of headings linked: 8406 Number of headings unlinked: 24019 Number of headings fuzzily linked: 0 BUT it isn't link correctly all headings, all authorities with the same "surname" but other "name" were linked together.(EX.: Abrahamyan Suren , Abrahamyan Armen, Abrahamyan Karen link to Abrahamyan Suren) So koha find only" Surname" for matching and link them. Serials: Irregularities

Hi all, This is a paste from bug 17656: == The current irregularity feature works with saving internal fictive issue numbers in a text field irregularity. If you edited/shifted some dates in serial collection, you might be surprised what happens. You cannot view the saved irregularities in serial collection (I only see e.g. 2 issues on the Planning tab); they are only visible when editing the subscription and looking at the prediction pattern again. Bug 18365<https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=18365> and friends made it easier to handle discrepancies in the schedule. An occasional irregularity could be resolved that way. Would it be useful to define recurring irregularities in terms of the serial frequency chosen? If it is month, we could allow the user to select one or more months to skip? Same for weeks or days. (Year seems less interesting.) Doing this would replace selection of irregulars in the prediction pattern. If so, how should we handle 'special' frequencies like 1 per 3 months or 3 per month btw? Skip all in e.g. July or refine with skip second in July etc.? Dear All, We are moving to Koha - very soon - but have discovered that there is an issue with our admittedly very old self service station and it's communication with Koha, as it is on the fabulous Vista operating system. This means it's trying to communicate with Koha using http and plain text... Hello everybody, We have: OpacdefaultSortField/OpacdefaultSortOrder set to: A-Z (also we changed to ascendet) But when you enter in our OPAC (try it: www.catalogoenlinea.bijrd.gob.do) and type letter, A and try to search: this is the result: Ñam: el ñadu gloton... Ícaro... Églogan... El entre nosotros... Álbum And so on After some others titles, the order is missed again. Add a branch, or not?

We are considering a union catalogue with another small specialist library in a different location (170+ miles away). While it's useful for both libraries to be able to see what the other holds, most users will want to prioritize searching their local library. We are two distinct organizations, so it would be best if each library could have their own home screen, and a preference set to search for local items. What's the best way to do this with Koha? Would setting up a branch work, or would it be better to set up a different instance and somehow get them to link together for broader searches? The idea of using branches is appealing as there will be a lot of overlap between holdings, and it might be easier to link their holdings to our records instead of converting their database to MARC. They will probably both be hosted on the same (remote) server. Neither library has the budget (or the IT skills) for a complicated front end . If it's a small bit of digital magic that needs doing, we might be able to beg some help from a friendly IT wizard. One more question, will it cause any problems to add a new branch to our existing Koha setup (16.11)? Nicolay, This is the upgrade procedure that I recently used. - Install Ubuntu server 16.04. I ran up a new host on my ESXi server. - I followed the install procedure from the wiki (https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_packages) I used Mariadb - I replaced the "library" (koha instance) in the procedure with the name from the old server. - I run the web installer. - Then I drop the database in the new server. - Backup the database from the old server. - Import the backup into the new database.
