Upgrade problem Debian Packages
by clint.deckard 15 Jan '18

15 Jan '18

Following an upgrade form 16.05 to 17.11 using the packages (and koha-restore) on Debian Jessie I get the following error when trying to access the staff or opac interface; "DBIx::Class::Storage::DBI::catch {...} (): DBI Connection failed: Access denied for user 'koha_instance'@'localhost' (using password: YES) at /usr/share/perl5/DBIx/Class/Storage/DBI.pm line 1490. at /usr/share/koha/lib/Koha/Database.pm line 100" I did notice the error during koha-restore 'DROP USER koha_instance failed' (approx). I'd appreciate some help. Clint.

MARC export file conversion
by stellatus161 . 14 Jan '18

14 Jan '18

I would like to import MARC records from http://katalog.nukat.edu.pl catalogue to Koha. In attachement you find MARC export file. Koha don't understand that. Does someone know quick way to conversion? <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campai…> Virenfrei. www.avast.com <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campai…> <#DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2>

Manual for 18.05 updated (+ePub version)
by Jonathan Druart 12 Jan '18

12 Jan '18

Hello, The manual for 18.05 (work in progress) is available at https://koha-community.org/documentation/ The different versions contain the last PO files from pootle. The ePub versions are also available (not for English yet, coming soon). The PDF versions are not available yet (see my previous email for a first try). We are going to try and keep up-to-date these different versions with the work done by the translators. Note that this 18.05 versions used the PO from the project "Manual 17.11" in Pootle, that may be confusing (will be fixed later, any ideas?). Regards, Jonathan

Hackfest in Marseille, registrations open !
by Paul Poulain 10 Jan '18

10 Jan '18

Hello everyone, As already announced, the next Koha hackfest in Marseille will be in March, 12th-16th. Registrations are open !!! Should I explain what is the hackfest ? OK, for newbies, I explain. That's a week for anyone interested in being involved into Koha. About 50 persons, librarians and developers, from France and other countries, meet to: * meet * test * document * translate * patch * talk * share * show * try * miss ... and ... retry * discuss how to conquer the world (at least libraries...) * eat and drink (OK, drink, it's after day-work. And it's not mandatory) The FAQ: *Q= what are the conditions to come ?* A= none, except wanting to contribute to Koha *Q= What is the cost ?* A= it's free (but BibLibre does not pay for traveling fees, hotel, or food) *Q= where does it take place ?* A= Marseille, 108 rue Breteuil, in BibLibre office. We provide coffee, desk, chairs, internet, video-projectors and cookies (many people come with their local candies) *Q= can I come only for a few days ?* A= yes, but at least 2 days, in just one day, no time do contribute anything. *Q= I need an official letter* A= Just drop me an email, I'll send one *Q= I have no laptop* A= mmmm.... tricky... we don't have any spare laptop, and it's hard to contribute without laptop... *Q= how to register ?* A= easy : drop me an email *Q= What about hotel, transportation,...* A= You'll be added to a Google doc when you register. *Q= I've heard about a cheese lunch, can you explain ?* A= lunches are organized by BibLibre, in our office (there's no restaurant large enough in the area), and each lunch has it's own theme. The legendary "cheese lunch" includes 30+ different french cheese, in a huge buffet (with some salads...). So you'll discover a part of French gastronomy. This year, it will be tuesday 13th (I've been asked a few times: "when is the cheese lunch, I can't be here the whole week, so I want to be here for the cheese") *Q= I'm veggie, can you take care of me ?* A= yes, for sure. Just tell me when you register *Q= I'm vegan, can you take care of me ?* A= sorry, but no, too complex. You'll be on your own. But you can eat with us, welcome. -- Paul Poulain, Associé-gérant / co-owner BibLibre, Services en logiciels libres pour les bibliothèques BibLibre, Open Source software and services for libraries

Fwd: Koha 17.11 Web installer stuck at Choose your language
by Daniel Owens 10 Jan '18

10 Jan '18

I am using the Web installer for Koha 17.11 on Ubuntu 16.04. I select "en" (or vi-VN, which is also available), and click "Continue to the next step", but the browser says "Waiting for <ipadress>..." for awhile then returns to the "Choose your language" screen. Any ideas what is happening? Daniel

Difficulties getting 17.05.01 to talk with MariaDB under Mint 18.1
by C.J.S. Hayward 09 Jan '18

09 Jan '18

I posted https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=18852 and Katrin encouraged me to post to the list where it might get more attention. My bug description, very lightly reformatted, is: As of 17.05.01, I was told there were reports of successful installations. However, I have not been able to reproduce such. I had earlier made a couple of attempts to add Koha to a multipurpose appliance, and that remains my end goal. However, when I tried to back up, I saw the same issue verbatim. What I have done today was: Download a fresh Linux Mint 18.1 ISO. Build a VirtualBox VM with the ISO, with mostly default features and with third-party addons, and also enabling auto-login, but in general intended to be a plain vanilla install. Rebooted; installed Chrome and touched /etc/sudoers, ran "aptitude update"; ran "aptitude upgrade", installed MariaDB, and rebooted again. Followed the steps, including a couple of a2enmod enablings, and created a virtual site. I was able to edit passwords in /etc/koha/.../koha-conf.xml, and enter the web setup wizard. However, I experienced identical output from the installer: at a certain point, it says: Software error: DBIx::Class::Storage::DBI::catch {...} (): DBI Connection failed: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' at /usr/share/perl5/DBIx/Class/Storage/DBI.pm line 1492. at /usr/share/koha/lib/Koha/Database.pm line 100 For help, please send mail to the webmaster ([no address given]), giving this error message and the time and date of the error. I am having difficulties with MariaDB and my difficulties may be contributing to the problem. My understanding, as inherited from MySQL, is that "mysql -uroot -p", for any account that will run it, will check a password and, if you have root's password set, will let you into the MySQL root command line if and only if you type the password exactly. The behavior I have observed is that as root "mysql -uroot" does not prompt for a password, but just logs you in, and "mysql -uroot -p" prompts for a password, but will accept any password, the empty password included. However, from an unprivileged account, "mysql -uroot -p" prompts for a password, but none of the passwords I've tried have worked; I've tried and used values as set in my customized koha-conf.xml, and every single password is rejected. I believe that this command line behavior is a symptom of the same problem quoted above: permission is being denied for user 'root'@'localhost' where the action in question would be permitted for any account with UID 0 and no account with any other UID. Again, this is after the 17.05.01 release, where it was reported to me that some people have had success. The system setup shows a couple of my personal idiosyncracies, but is meant to be awfully close to a procedure of "Step 1: Create a new Linux Mint VM. Step 2: Install Koha." The behavior is the same between the fresh new VM running 17.05.01, and an "everything but the kitchen sink" multitool of an appliance. What can I do to let Koha talk to MariaDB as 'root'@'localhost'?
