But it's fully usable, and should not be modified a lot until a stable version is released. DB modifications : --------- None, but check that your systempreferences table is : CREATE TABLE systempreferences ( variable varchar(50) NOT NULL default '', value varchar(200) default NULL, explanation varchar(200) NOT NULL default '', options text, type varchar(20) default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (variable) ) PACK_KEYS=1; If you installed a 2.0.0pre1 from scratch, it should be ok. If your version was a 1.9.x, it should not be ok. SYSTEMPREFS : --------- In systempreferences, add a gist field. Used to calculate gst when ordering, in acquisition module. Enter 0.12 for 12% rate. IMPROVMENTS : --------- * checkmarc.pl : added a check on fields mapped to item marc tag (by Paul). * overdue books backported from 1.2.x (& templated) (by Chris) * some additionals check to verify a borrower can borrow a book (by Esiee) * MARC search (in intranet) : - dramaticaly improving the speed of a MARC search in case of a A OR B search (by Paul) - Users can search using more than 3 criterias (criterias are now added dynamically) (by Esiee) - Results can be displayed using 20,50 or 100 results per page. (by Esiee) - Added arrows and numbers to walk through the results (as in OPAC) (by Esiee) BUGS FIXED : --------- * 2 stupids & majors bug in MARC editor, due to too fast copy/paste. (fixed by Paul) * bug 479 : I have problem to assign a Sticky due date, it uses day date as year due date !!! (fixed by ?) * bug 471 : missing next / previous in itemtype admin page, in case there is more than 20 itemtypes (fixed by Paul) * bug 474 : alternate contact no more required (fixed by Paul) * bug 478 : value modification with single quote now works (in parameters section) (fixed by Paul) * bug 489 : poor file copying during install (fixed by MJR) * bug 526 : gst rate hardcoded. Moved to systempref (see SYSTEMPREFS chapter). (fixed by Paul) If supplier parameters are set to do it, the gst are now auto calculated with javascript. * bug 512 : bibliosubject table is not being populated (fixed by Paul) * bug 513 : marclinks: default mapping typo (fixed by Paul) * updatedatabase bugs : now, the updatedatabase script (located in scripts/updater) works and update your DB structure. note it only adds fields & tables. The MARC parameter tables won't be populated, neither the MARC-DB. (fixed by Paul) KNOWN BUGS : ------- * bug 510 : new doc needs to be integrated * bug 487 : upgrade problem from a previous version. Hi everyone the fines2.pl now is working properly with me , but the way it calculates the fines is strange for me . it just calculate the fines at two dates the first one is caled first reminder the second one is called second notice , if the borrower returned the book between these dates the fines will be the fine for the first reminder only . hello, I am working on setting up 2.0.0pre1. It installs fine and I am using the bulkmarcimport.pl script to import ~8,000 biblios in USMARC format from our old Winnebago system. So far so good. They seem to import fine. I can query the database and see the data. Now I seem to have 8,000 biblios, but no items. It seems that a biblio is a description of a possible book, but I actually need some items in my catalog to be able to check them in and out. Is this correct. Can someone give a brief explanation of the difference between a biblio, biblioitem, and item in the database and give me an idea of how I can actually convert those 8,000 biblios to books? Derek, Your Winnebago data has item information. For example on the last record, _9p14.95 ^_h001.535 R51b^_p10006^^WL^_t6^^^] is item information. Subfield h contains the specific call number for the item, I think subfield p is the barcode number. This field can be repeated in a MARC record, so it is possible to have several items attached to one bibliographic record. As for the structure it basically follows the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR). We are dealing with an expression of a work, the manifestation of that expression and then an individual copy of that expression. There is lots more about FRBR at the IFLA Web site. I'm not sure, but was the database constructed to conform to FRBR? If not, it might be a good exercise for a library student to map the database to the FRBR. In the commercial field only VTLS has a FRBR system available. A biblio is the general information about a publication, a biblioitem is a type of incarnation of a publication (book on tape, paperback, hardcover, first edition, etc.) and an item is an actual thing that can be checked out that fits one of those types. Now, during the import process of a bunch of USMARC records using bulkmarcimport.pl, should I expect my database to be populated with any items? After doing it, it seems that I get biblios and biblioitems, but no actual items. Just for fun I created a test "item" that matched one of my biblios and biblioitems, and then searched for it. It worked great an I got all the relevant info (bar code, etc). However, it is the only item in my whole database. ;-( I guess the real question is, "Is there enough information in a USMARC record to generate the item as well as the biblio and biblioitems, and should I expect bulkmarcimport.pl to do that?" I'd like to extract as much information as possible out of the Winnebago data. Basically, as far as I know, each USMARC record in the file represents an actual item in our library.
