nope not really.... I cant run automatically through our proxy server, and tracing modules is proving impossible. koha and annual stocktaking

Hi! The company I am working for would like to use koha but only if it is easily possible to make annual stocktaking. Therefore I would like to know whether it is and how. 1.9.3 bug & question

First off is a minor bug. During the installation process it says to make sure $etcdir/koha-httpd.conf gets included in the standard httpd.conf file. During my installation, the file that actually got created was not $etcdir/koha-httpd.conf, but rather just $etcdir/httpd.conf. Line 1134 of Install.pm confirms this to be the case. Second is more of a question. When I go to koha/acqui.simple/addbooks.pl next to the link that reads "z39.50 Search Tool" is the text "does not work." I've adjusted and run the z3950 proccessing scripts and confirmed that they are actually running. In an email about two weeks ago someone was asking about z3950 searching not working as in 1.2.3, and Paul's response indicates that it ought to be working. I don't know if it's possible, but perhaps until the developers can create a classification field that uses ANY system/s the users need, it might be useful to have stop-gap 'DDC' and 'LC' versions of Koha. Ed is dead-on in noting that LC is really the standard for scientific libraries. I interviewed on one that insisted in using Dewey a few years ago: most of the call numbers were 20 digits. I seem to be unable to get koha installed due to numerous missing perl modules, Where can I find Database.pm and PAN.pm? How come when I run the 1.2.3 install script and it says all esential modules installed, i get a failed install? regards Steven

I thought it would show whatever you put in. If you put in an LC number, that's what you get out. The problem is being able to put an LC number in, right? Al is exactly right -- MARC has already solved this entire issue of breaking down/storing call numbers, etc. For MARC21, the 852 tag subfields $h, $i, $k, $m, and $t cover this. (I think UNIMARC's 852 tag is similar, but I don't know.) But Koha still has a problem, because it maps MARC data to the old Koha non- MARC database, and most (all?) of the templates work from that old Koha database. So a library needs to be able to map each of those five subfields to a unique column in a Koha table. And the current tables can't handle that. Yes, any real marc or later record should have it, but what I was trying to stress (and yes I am starting to get stressed)! You have to have koha have the ability to use that information for those of us in the upper educational and scientific community AND NOT HAVE IT SHOWING DEWEY! This must be an easy to change option for the library involved that should be selectable at startup/install time. The library that is to use the software should not have to write any scripts, recode something, or go to any other effort than to indicate during install if they wish Dewey or lc.
