Hello, Does anybody have a smaill file in marc record format that they know works with the bulkmarcimport tool they might be able to email me so we can push forward with some tests? We are wrestling with our own data to be imported, but it would be great if somebody had something they would be willing to share so we can test other areas. You can email me directly, and come to think of it, not a bad idea to eventually post some test data to the koha websites. It might be useful for others. I work for Huge organization called PMEC and i set up KOHA system to this organization and i need your help to finish my work in KOHA system Please answer for my E- mail ASAP: How can I modify or change all the templets in the KOHA and put our logo ? Does KOHA V.1.2.3 run on WIN server 2003 , what the steps to get it run perfect ? I need to get PMEC as a real company that use KOHA at cairo -Egypt as AUC ? How can I set up reports that match with my company needs? i need the steeps to do all this with coding materials, how can i use Open book with my libraray and MARC ? Multilingual Koha and MARC

Thanks all for your continuing advice and suggestions. For those new to the conversation, I'm working on converting a set of records in a flat-file database in English into a format usable in Koha in both English and Arabic. Please help me with my understanding of how Koha works in multiple languages. It's my understanding that Koha's interface works in multiple languages, including Arabic, right 'out of the box.' Is this correct for both the current version and 1.2.3? The 1.2.3 version I'm working on has an Arabic pull down menu which controls the interface language, but I don't know if this was added by the local programmers or was a standard part of that version of Koha. Other than the interface appearance, I can't think of anything else in the Koha program (not catalog contents) which would need to be changed in order to work in Arabic. Am I overlooking anything? Regarding the content of the catalog and other databases, I'm currently leaning towards converting our existing records into MARC, or, I guess more properly, UNIMARC, in order to input them into Koha. I've learned that certain fields, such as the one for title, have corresponding fields for the title translated into other languages. My question is, for all the fields containing English text, is it possible to have a corresponding parallel field translated into Arabic or another language? If I was successful translating all the fields needed into parallel fields in Arabic, would the 1.2.3 version of Koha and bulkmarcimport.pl handle it successfully? How does MARC work?

Thank you, Stephen and Steven, for your responses to my earlier questions. I now have some questions on the basics of MARC, not so much the technicalities, but almost the philosophy. If you're curious, you can see the superset of the collection in question at http://www.hcpartnership.org/mmc/mmc_search.php. I'm interested in importing the materials listed under Region = "Near East" into a 1.2.3 Koha system in Egypt. These materials are currently stored in a MySQL DB which we created without reference to any outside schema or organization. Originally, I thought that I had two choices to electronically import these records. I could reverse-engineer the 1.2.3 Koha database and use perl and SQL to import them, or I could convert them to MARC records and import them using bulkmarcimport. In either case, I thought, the work that I did to import them would be of no further use to anyone but me. >From a little bit more reading and pondering things, I wonder if I'm mistaken. If I go to the trouble of converting these records into MARC, could other collections with the same materials somehow use this information, instead of recreating them? These are my MARC questions: How does somebody become the authoritative source of MARC records for a material? Is it just the first collection that does the work? The producer of the publication? Is there a central repository of MARC records? The Library of Congress gets mentioned a lot. Is this just for USA? Do they accept submissions from others, or originate all the work themselves? It seems like the Z39.50 system allows for a distributed repository. How do collections know that my system might be the source of authoritative MARC records? Would setting up a Z39.50 server allow the folks in Egypt to get the information from me when they add the same items to their collection? Can they catalog items into MARC records and we in Baltimore get their information? If all this is covered in a document on the web somewhere, please point it out to me. I've found plenty of documents on the technicalities of MARC, including concise definitions of all the fields, but I feel I'm missing the 'big picture.' Then choose Save. Note that Word changes interface in inconsistent ways--if you see slightly different menu item names, please try them. To convert to plain text is almost the same--instead of HTML Document, choose Text Only or Text Document as the Save As Type. Your computer may also have a program to convert to pdf format. Select File => Print. Scroll through available printers and select the pdf converter. Click on the Print button and enter a name for the pdf file when requested. New install

Hi all, I'm new to Koha and have spent the past week finding every piece of documentation I can on 2.2.3, but there seems to be a critical gap in all the install docs/help I've found. I've got Koha running great, and can go to both the OPAC and Intranet pages. However, I don't know if there's a default login for administrators created, or if I need to create on manually, or what. What am I missing? Why isn't this mentioned anywhere?
