Greetings I am trying to get the z39.50 search running but am having some difficulty. I have set up Koha to use MARC21 records. When I try to add the Library of Congress as a Z39.50 server I only get the choices of USMARC and UNIMARC for syntax. And searching does not give any results. How do I add MARC21? I take it it is as easy as editing the I have tried to add a server that supports USMARC but still get no results. I don't see anything useful in the log files either. hi all, when i try to run the ./z3950-daemon-launch.sh command the following message appear on the screen, please guide me what shoul i do to activate the Z3950 search? hello koha ! Thanks for this solution of my problem Typically, it is a problem which occurs when you use a command line program in Koha: Type :" export KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha.conf export PERL5LIB=/usr/local/koha/intranet/modules BEFORE Launching the program. BUT when i run the rebuilnonmarc.pl after typing the above commands the screen shows ::: Malformed UTF-8 character (1 byte, need 3, after start byte 0xe5) at /usr/local/ koha/intranet/modules/C4/Biblio.pm line 2513. This script rebuilds the non-MARC DB from the MARC values. You can/must use it when you change your mapping. For example : you decide to map biblio.title to 200 (it was previously mapped to 610) : run this script or you will have strange results in OPAC ! syntax : ./rebuildnonmarc.pl -h (or without arguments => shows this screen) ./rebuildnonmarc.pl -c (c like confirm => rebuild non marc DB (may be long) -t => test only, change nothing in DB Died at ./rebuildnonmarc.pl line 35. when i run the fines2.pl after typing the above commands the screen shows no message like: [root@192 misc]# ./fines2.pl [root@192 misc]# Is these commands are successful or not! Regarding mapping to itemcallnumber field

Mapping 942$a tag to Koha 'itemcallnumber' field: Since I do not know Perl programming nor do I understand what NPL mapping is, what I am doing now to solve the Call Number problem is as follows: In Koha I have mapped biblioitems.classification to 942$a After data entry is over (in batches), using SQL I update the 'items' table using the command: UPDATE ITEMS,BIBLIOITEMS SET ITEMS.ITEMCALLNUMBER = BIBLIOITEMS.CLASSIFICATION WHERE ITEMS.BIBLIONUMBER = BIBLIOITEMS.BIBLIONUMBER This way I have the data in both the 'classification' field as well as the 'itemcallnumber' field. I cannot, however, search on 'Call Number' in the search window since the 'Call Number' field (items.itemcallnumber) is not mapped to any tag. But the details of the 'items.itemcallnumber' field DO show up in the 'Location' column when I search for books and this is good enough. I am sure there is a shorter and easier way to handle the problem. Anyone to enlighten me. One other thing: Under 'System Preferences' there is a 'Themes' menu. On my computer the choice is 'css'. Just to find out what it meant I changed it to 'vanilla' but could not find any change in the appearance of the screens, etc. Could anyone tell me what the 'Themes' are all about? There is also an 'npl' option. What does NPL mean? Problem regarding MARC21 tag 942$a mapping

Hi everybody. I am running Koha 2.2.3 on Windows 98. I use the MARC21 tag '942 $a' (mapped to items.itemcallnumber) to store the classification number of our library. However, the field 'itemcallnumber' in the table 'items' shows <NULL> for all records. If I display the MARC record, the tag 942$a shows the proper value. Where is the data for this tag stored? I searched the biblio, items, bibliosubject tables; but found no clue. I can replace the 'itemcallnumber' field in the 'items' table with the correct value if I know where the value is being stored currently. Can anyone help? I'd be grateful. Status of Koha 2.2+ and UNIMARC?

I think I can answer my own questions about alternative languages in UNIMARC records with reference to http://www.ifla.org/VI/3/p1996-1/sectn3.htm. Section 3.9 talks about how to represent the same information in different languages. Before I go down this path, however, I want to double-check the status of Koha 2.2+ (I've got 2.2.3) with regard to UNIMARC. The documentation says that this version supports UNIMARC. How extensive is the support? Can you do everything with UNIMARC that you can do with MARC21? Is there a UNIMARC complement to 'bulkmarcimport.pl'? While I can find the perl MARC modules, there doesn't seem to be any dealing with UNIMARC. Will this be a problem to me as a programmer and system administrator? Any other questions about UNIMARC and Koha that I don't even know enough to ask about? Thanks for your advice. -Kevin Zembower ----- E.
