I have following the email on Chinese support. I checked with Mysql which says that it supports Unicode. So I guess the question lies in whether Koha's search engine is able to translate Unicode into whatever code it is using for Chinese characters? InMagic 8 transfer

Hello all. I've run into a snag with my current software, DBTextworks. Seems that v.8 is no longer compatible with the MARC Transformer, so there is no way to reverse my records to MARC from InMagic Tagged Format. I know the work around to backtrack to an earlier version of Textworks, but would like something simpler. Does anyone have suggestions for getting data out of Textworks, into MARC and Koha? Thanx. bulkmarcimport access denied

just how hard is it?

hi everyone, i've been watching this list for about a month. i'm not a technophobe, but know next to nothing about linnux. i've seen enough on this list to decide that koha windows isn't worth the trouble (and am sort of anti-windows anyway). many of these questions are just baffling. what i want to know is, how hard is it really to get koha set up? from start (making the pc a linnux machine, installing apache, mysql and perl) to finish (installing koha, uploading records, adding barcodes, circulation, web opac)? on a scale of 1 to 10, with one being as easy as downloading adobe acrobat reader and 10 being so difficult that it would be best not attemped by anyone w/o a degree in computer science. i'm so intrigued by this software. but intimidated, too. any advice from the non-techie folks? (yes, i know i can hire someone to do this, but i love the diys aspect, too.) cheers, c. Access to Z39.50 server shows no action

Hi all! I'm trying to access a Z39.50 server and have added it in my Koha parameters. This is the server info I have (In swdeish): http://www.libris.kb.se/tjanster/teknisk_info/z3950.jsp I've verified that I do not need a userid or password. However, serching for a ISBN number shows no access activity on the network against this machine (tcpdump host z3950.libris.kb.se). I can ping that particular machine so it's there... So, is there a way to see what Koha is trying to do when accessing a Z39.50 server? Regards, /Thommy M. -- Thommy M. MESH call numbers for Koha

I am new to the list and would like some advice from you. I notice that Koha uses Dewey for call numbers. Can I use MESH or Medical Subject Call Numbers? This might seem a little oddd but I never comment out the server root varaiable. I add Listen 8001 #opac Listen 8081 #admin this way I have a server front end on port 80 which has links to opac and admin at ports 8001 and 8081 respectively. I have an example posted on the koha wiki under koha on Slackware 10,1. there is an example httpd.conf which includes a koha server behind a server which uses the port forwarding technique. koha/apache problems

I just installed Koha on a server running redhat linux version 9. Everything went smoothly, I included /etc/koha-httpd.conf in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf, commented out the DocumentRoot line in httpd.conf, made sure it was only being told to listen to 80 and 8080 once (in koha-httpd.conf), restarted apache, and tried to connect. Nothing.
