yaz failed dependencies on CentOS 5

hi, I'm the sysadmin from a University in Mexico and I've been trying to install Koha for our library. When I used fedora 5 some years ago it installed fine but now we are using Centos 5 and I cant install ZOOM nor yaz properly. I've tried to rebuild the src rpms for yaz and then compiling ZOOM perl bindings from source and it seems ok but then the Koha perl installer keeps saying that zoom is not installed. -- Dr. Mat. It contains information about the content and structure of the record and ends with a bit called the registry that allows computers to take the alphanumeric string that is the record and fill out a table (matrix). There are elements (positions) that you must enter in the leader -- 5, 6, 7, 17 and 18 are required -- and others that the computer seems to complete on its own. As a cataloguing technician, I have never really understood how the computer 'knows' (sorry, MJR, but to the non-programmers among us, this is all 'automagical' stuff!) which are which. I have no idea if Koha fills these in automatically or not. I tend to do my cataloguing outside of Koha and import ready-made records. > 003 - Control number identifier Backtracking one second: although some Integrated Library Systems (ILS) do generate a number for the 001 field automatically, I don't think Koha does yet. You could probably customise it to do that easily enough. I enter those numbers manually when cataloguing. Think of the 003 as the source for that serial number. The 003 is where you should be putting your library code or symbol. E.g. in Canada, library symbols tend to look something like this: CaMWUW which would be read as Canada-Manitoba-Winnipeg-University of Winnipeg. In the U.S, LC assigns codes; in Canada, the National Collections (formerly NLC). Other countries have similar authorities. If the Solomon Islands has a code for your library, that's what you would enter in the 003. Otherwise, just make something up that you like or leave it out. It won't affect the quality of records: it is really something that cataloguers look at when assessing whether to accept records for import into their catalogues (certain libraries having better reputations for quality cataloguing than others). If you adjust a record to make it your library's own, it is legitimate to put your symbol/code in the 003. You can adjust the 040 to track the history of the record if you want (multiple $d's with the respective libraries' codes as necessary). > 005 - Date and time of latest transaction Again, once you create the 005 initially, some ILS automatically update it. I don't think that Koha does. It isn't terribly important. > 008 - Fixed length date elements - General information Now, a field that is terribly important. There are certain key positions that must be coded to make minimum record requirements (basically, to create something that is worthy of being called a MARC record); for book materials these are: 0-5 (date entered), 6 (type of date), 7-10 (date 1), 11-14 (date 2, if applicable), 15-17 (country of publication), and 35-37 (language). The Library of Congress maintains the MARC21 coding standards, explaining each field and giving coding examples. mysql5 or moremember.pl error?

Hello, I have installed koha 2.2.9 on suse linux 10.1 - apache 2.2 and mysql. things seems to be working ok except that when i try to add a member, fill the necessary data and click add the browser responds by trying to download moremember.pl. when i open this file it contains error from the server. how do i solve this. is it due to apache or mysql5? thanks for your response. perl C4 module errors

Hello, I just upgraded from 2.2.6 to 2.2.9 I seem to be having problems with running some perl modules that come with koha, the C4 modules. Here's the error I get when I run this command: sudo perl /usr/local/koha/intranet/scripts/updater/updatedatabase Can't locate C4/Context.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.7 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.7 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8 /usr/share/perl/5.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/local/koha/intranet/scripts/updater/updatedatabase line 23. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/local/koha/intranet/scripts/updater/updatedatabase line 23. How can I permanently add the C4 modules to the @INC variable? Is there some other solution that is better? The z39.50 search is also not working and I'm assuming that this is the problem. thanks for your time and any help you can give, Matthew

Salvete! You can in fact delete by barcode. Beware of the deaccession and the frumious bandersnatch. You will make more work for yourself if you accidentally delete something. Go to the purple Cataloguing Intranet pages. Do a search for other options Item Barcode. Plug in the item's barcode and hit enter. Click on the summary display of the item. >From this screen, there are little tabs at the top. Pick the delete tab. It should ask for confirmation. Click yes. *poof* item gone! how to delete a record?

Dear All; I am part of this support group and have asked before how can I delete a whole entry, this is, a bibliographic record. I went to the address supplied for a Koha manual, but the item "delete biblio record", had not been developed yet. So I have to bother you. We do not use yet a marc record, as we have our own classification system in a small library of about 7000 books. I need to do some deselection, and need to delete some titles, and/ or some second copies. How is this done? I have asked Chris last year if after doing this I could use that"barcode" number again. Hello guys, I attempted this weekend to download Apache, MySQL, ActivePerl, and Koha for Windows following instructions from 'Koha on Windows Documentation'. I have not had any luck. z39.50 search working... I don't know what all funkiness actual librarians configure with Koha..so the only thing I did was add some z39.50 servers to search. I will try and figure out HOW to package it up and make it available to the masses...with some sort of an instruction sheet on login and the like... or if you have and ftp server and want me to push it up onto your server...just let me know and I can let it run overnight... contact me off-list dhuckaby(a)paasda.org Thanks, --Huck
