Dealing with bad MARC records

This question is not directly related to Koha itself, but to preparing MARC records for import. Some of the records we've been downloading from Libraries and Archives Canada contain a "5||" (two pipe characters) tag with information about translation. As far as I can tell this is not valid MARC. I developed a little Java program to pre-process records before importing into Koha, using the marc4j library to read MARC. This library refuses to read records containing non-numeric tags, causing us problems. Can anyone recommend any tools for ensuring that a MARC record contains only valid MARC? I could use MarcEdit to 'break' the files, edit out the bad tags and then re'make' them but this is a bit complicated, time-consuming and error-prone. -- Kevin O'Rourke ICT Coordinator, National Teachers' Institute, Kaduna, Nigeria 062 316972

Hi, Are there any folks that have written custom queries for the membership module? I've begun writing some simple scripts in php to: 1. Print to screen a full listing of member details with an option to download it as CSV file 2. Print to screen a full listing of current members with an option to download it as CSV file 3. Print to screen a full listing of expired members with an option to download it as CSV file These are to assist our secretary to do mail merges and general member admin. There will probably be some additional data views over time to assist with the taks, such as queries based on dates and the like. My question is , has ANYONE ELSE out there done something like this (i.e. enhanced member reporting module) and is willing to share the code, perhaps in perl? I must admit I'm not much of a programmer, but for -what it's worth- whatever php scripts I come up with I'd happy to offer them to rest of the community as a contrib. Regards, Bo

Error when choosing version

Hello, When I try to choose a version from the list, select overwrite, then an error comes up. I cant change the path to Apache and my version says Apache Software foundation and Apache2.2. What it should say is Apache Group and Version2. Is there a version that can fix this? Announcing Koha Project Day

Hi all, The management team here at LibLime is happy to announce a new initiative to foster community development and growth of the Koha project. As of this week, _every_ Sunday is Koha Project Day here at LibLime (for our NZ staff, this translates into Monday). Of course, throughout the week, we LibLimers spend the majority of our time working for our customers: writing specifications, doing development work, implementation, and support. Koha Project Day gives us a chance to give back to you -- the community that makes all of this possible! Barring any urgent support requests, or last-minute proposals due, we're planning to focus our energy entirely on the Koha Project itself during Koha Project Day -- every week. We'd like to extend the invitation to you, dear community. Join us any time on any Sunday and pitch in. Or, alternatively, pick a regular day/time that you find convenient and announce it to the rest of the community. It's strictly voluntary of course (for our staff too), so if you're unable to participate, we won't hold a grudge :-). But if you're able, join us and help out, there's plenty to do. Speaking of which, what is there to do? Glad you asked. I want to export all the entries in MS-Access for some personal use in the office. Ports for Koha

Hi, previous problems solved. (Well, almost, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it...) Since I am installing Koha on a university machine, the firewall is very restrictive, and I need to request any additional ports to be opened. Port 80 is already used for webserving via apache, and so I was going to use ports 8000 and 8080, as suggested by the installer. I have emailed the people responsible for changing the firewall, and they have sent me a form to fill in (http://hustu.nottingham.ac.uk/bar/Firewall-change-request.doc) - the only parts I am having trouble filling in is the "Direction of Traffic Initiation" (I am assuming this should be "In") and "Protocol" (I am assuming this should be "HTTP"). The rest, I think, is fairly self-explanatory. Thank you in advance - I very much appreciate your help! Naming Conventions

Hi all, A while back, I posed a question to these lists asking what the naming conventions were in your library for referring to patrons/ borrowers/users/etc. Thank you all for responding! The overwhelming majority of you said that you use the term 'patrons' most frequently. As a result, I suggest we change the naming convention within Koha's default templates to represent that majority. Some of you had feedback on other naming conventions as well. For instance, several said that 'check-out' and 'check-in' were preferred terms over 'issue' and 'return'. I've gotten the same feedback from quite a few libraries in my demos around North America. So, I'd also like to propose we adjust the default templates to reflect that majority. Of course, with our flexible translation framework, it's a fairly trivial procedure to change the wording in your local installation, if you prefer the current conventions. Any objections? installing koha on centos 4.4

List of books catalogued

Hi, Our librarian has the following query. Can anyone please clarify this point. Thanks in anticipation. She is able to view the number of books catalogued so far (I don't know how: I haven't managed to do it till now, but she spends more time on Koha), but not the list of catalogued books.
