Good morning, I thought my solution to handling periodicals in a small public library might be worth sharing on the list. I was half-awake yesterday morning when I started re-thinking the process. I do all my initial cataloging in Millennium as I contribute records to MaineCat, a shared statewide database so our stuff can be requested by other Maine libraries. Since nearly every periodical is represented in the master database, I have imported them into Koha via Z39.50. Since issues get discarded rather quickly due to shelving constraints, I decided to use my spine label template to create very simple generic barcodes (GM1, GM2, GM3, etc.) It took about ten minutes to create and print 300. I'm adding issues, using the date as the call # and slapping one of the generic barcodes on the back. While I have to type them in as opposed to scanning, it still makes for a quick and simple procedure once I have the initial import of bib records done and the backlog of current issues added. Hi folks, The LibLime management team is happy to announce that we're switching Koha Project Day to Thursdays, starting next Thursday, July 26th (that's Friday in New Zealand). For those of you who are new to this list (welcome!), Koha Project Day is an initiative to foster community development and growth of the Koha project. It's an all day event that starts at 9am EST in our US office in Athens, Ohio and ends 15 hours later at 5pm NZ in our New Zealand Office in Wellington. Of course, throughout the week, we LibLimers spend the majority of our time working for our customers: writing specifications, doing development work, implementation, and support. adding Z39.50 search results to reservoir

I consider using KOHA for cataloging a book collection, so I am experimenting with Z39.50 search. Koha 2.2 Users Guide http://kohadocs.org/usersguide/ch04s02.html#d0e2485 states Once Koha has searched through the list of Z39.50 servers that were setup in your Koha parameters, the pop-up window will display the search results. At this point, all of the retrieved records have been added to your MARC reservoir. Is this really so? My experiments suggest that only the item explicitely imported (by clicking on the "Import" button in the pop-up window) is added to the reservoir. Have I misunderstood something? attempting to install Koha at Bluehost.com

Dear fellow list members, In am interested in installing Koha onto a web hosting account and not on a home computer. I decided to try Bluehost because I saw that they allowed editing the php.ini file and so figured that they might be my best shot at getting Koha installed on subscription account that I could afford. Other than wondering if anyone else has been successful in doing so with any web site hosting companies I request feedback on the following. After finding out that that Bluehost (www.bluehost.com) uses Fedora I emailed the Bluehost tech support the Install file and asked them to look it over and tell me if I could install it in my web hosting account as part of a web site. (Though the Install instructions were dated from 2005 I was hoping that they would be sufficient). Bellow is the the response email I recieved from the Bluehost tech support staff. First though, here are my questions in relation to their response: A) are there substitute Perl modules that I can install because Bluehost says that they can only install modules when there is a "stable version" of them? E.g.: 1)Sendmail v0.79 <-- Bluehost says that it is not in a stable release and so they won't install it. What can I do about this? 2)Net::Z3950 v0.51 <-- I looked this one up and it is outdated by a replacement. Since this was written in 2005 then perhaps I can use the replacement instead? What can I do about this. B) In short: would someone please give me a list of what I should ask the web hosting company (in this case Bluehost) to install? in gratitude, Truth C. Thank you all. I find the web link and list exceptionally helpful. I figured out that I can install the Perl modules myself. The interface is CPanel 11 (much better than the other hosting interfaces I have seen). So I pasted the names into the install window and the results are bellow for "Net::Z3950" and for "Zoom". Sendmail installed fine. I answered some of my own questions after reading through some of the archives: I found: http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=fc4 which provides a list of Perl Modules. Are Sendmail and Zoom ( http://search.cpan.org/~mirk/Net-Z3950-ZOOM/ ) in stable releases? So I suppose that I should ask the web hosting company to install the following Perl modules which they will hopefully be able and willing to install. Is this the list of Perl modules that is required or is there another list? Thanks, Truth C. Dear fellow list members, (I am sending this again because the formatting appeared messed up in the last message I sent). In am interested in installing Koha onto a web hosting account and not on a home computer. I decided to try Bluehost because I saw that they allowed editing the php.ini file and so figured that they might be my best shot at getting Koha installed on subscription account that I could afford. Other than wondering if anyone else has been successful in doing so with any web site hosting companies I request feedback on the following. After finding out that that Bluehost (www.bluehost.com) uses Fedora I emailed the Bluehost tech support the Install file and asked them to look it over and tell me if I could install it in my web hosting account as part of a web site. (Though the Install instructions were dated from 2005 I was hoping that they would be sufficient). Bellow is the the response email I recieved from the Bluehost tech support staff. First though, here are my questions in relation to their response: A) are there substitute Perl modules that I can install because Bluehost says that they can only install modules when there is a "stable version" of them? E.g.: 1)Sendmail v0.79 <-- Bluehost says that it is not in a stable release and so they won't install it. What can I do about this? 2)Net::Z3950 v0.51 <-- I looked this one up and it is outdated by a replacement. Since this was written in 2005 then perhaps I can use the replacement instead? What can I do about this. B) In short: would someone please give me a list of what I should ask the web hosting company (in this case Bluehost) to install? in gratitude, Truth C. Dear all Firstly I have installed koha ver. 2.2.8 with following configurations: Microsoft window 2000. Apachi 2.0.59, Mysql 5.0 & Perl 5.8.8 build 817 Then filling all the information in Add New Patron and click on add in this patron it is not storing. Only filed names are showing not field values. When I try to solve this problem go to mail list and read the mail http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/koha-win32/2007-04/msg00009.html and follows this mail instructions and change line memberentry.pl, 217 from my %flags = ('gonenoaddress' => ['gna', 'Gone no address'], to my %flags = ('gonenoaddress' => ['gonenoaddress', 'Gone no address'], But Patron is not added and I don't understanding topic "Date problems adding new members" ( http://lists.katipo.co.nz/public/koha/2007-April/011525.html) My problem is data is not added in Add new patron.
