Hi All, We were using an old version of KOHA in our small library. We recently had a new version installed on a newer server. Our tech support person transferred the data from the old version to the new. However, when we tested the system by doing a search on a topic the new version did not come up with any results. Here is the problem as given to me by out tech person: On the old server, we were running Koha version 1.x (I don't remember what number the 'x' was. If that information is important, I'll need to visit the IC again to find out.) We're now running version 2.2.9. I made a SQL dump of the old database ("mysqldump") and loaded that data nearly verbatim into the new database. The names of the database tables in the old koha database all seem to exist in the new database as well, so I didn't need to change any table names. Likewise, *most* of the column names and types (with maybe one exception) in the old tables are the same in the new tables, so porting the old data to the new database was fairly straightforward. However, some of the tables in the new database have columns that did not exist in the old database. In porting the old data, these new columns would of course have taken their default values. I'm guessing that this may be the crux of the problem; that something other than the default values needs to go into one or more of these new columns. z39.50 search

Problem: Z39.50 search not working! Koha 2.2.9 installed on Windows. Internal Server Error when trying to execute the Z39.50 search. If I delete that function(LOC), and only search 'amicus canada', the search returns a positive result. We have installed and uninstalled meticulously, and been super careful setting parameters. Has any-one got a solution? Thanks, Carmel

Guidelines for barcodes, barcode readers, etc.

We hope to be going live with Koha some this summer. I'm curious to know if there any special considerations when it comes to barcoding our books or selecting a scanner/ reader. If I'm right in assuming that this is a pretty cut-and-dry issue, I would appreciate any recommendations on specific vendor sources or models that work well. Scanning the mail archives makes it clear that many users find Koha installation and configuration non-trivial. But what surprises me in all this is the apparent preference for specific Linux distros. What seems to be lacking -- and I find this hard to understand -- is interest in and support for Koha on SunOS or Solaris. I can't explain why this should be the case, given that Solaris has for so long been the ILS platform of choice for so many institutions. Help with installation on fedora 8

I am reminded very much of a situation we had with hardware vs software many years ago with the hardware guys saying it was a software fault and the software guys saying it was a hardware fault. Judging by the one and only reply to my request for help and no further response from my reply to that, it appears that I am looking at a koha vs perl/CPAN situation. I am a great supporter of OpenSource, but after spending so much time on koha (not only the previous four days-but in the considerable problems in past installs) it appears that it is time to cut my losses and just write my own application that will suit my purposes. Forced LIMIT on reports

I was confused why my custom report wasn't showing me what I thought it should. Running the same query in the MySQL command-line gave me 22 rows, but the equivalent Koha report only showed 20 rows. Problem with issuing items

Dear All We have version 2.2.9 installed on Windows XP and have a problem with issuing items. We have completed all the boxes in the parameters /issuing rules table, and have set the status for our library members, but when we try to issue them an item, Koha warns us that confirmation is needed before issuing any item, and that too many issues have already been issued (this particular member doesn't have any items currently on loan) The warning says: Too many issues (already issued / max : a 0 / 0). The system then asks us to confirm this issue or not. If we say yes the issue is successfully completed. Is this normal, or do we need to adjust some more parameters? I notice that someone reported the same problem in the Koha archive in December 2007 but I couldn't find a response. Can anyone help please? We also have another problem (which may be related) with the parameters / issuing rules table. When we complete all the fines boxes in the required format, ie. 50,7,1 (meaning 50 kwacha fine, after 7 days, per day) and save, when we re-open the table, the figures in the fine boxes have changed with 5 zeros being added to the 50 kwacha amount – eg. 5000000 - and this means that there is only space for the first ‘comma’ and the rest of the information has disappeared. Is this affecting the issues as well? I have been successful in installing the Windows version of KOHA and it runs very well. I can export the MARC records to a text file. However, I see no mechanism whereby one could reload the records into another version of KOHA or into a new installation in the event of a crash. Anyone have any ideas on this?
