Koha in a Special Collections Library

Hello All, I am looking for some generic information on Koha. I am interested in using Koha in a special collections library environment which potentially has different needs than those of a more traditional library. I am wondering if anyone here has any advice or suggestions for using Koha in this type of environment. If you have implemented Koha in a special collections library, what were the challenges? Would you recommend using Koha for this? Perhaps this is not the correct forum for this question. If not, perhaps someone could direct me to the proper place. Thanks in advance, Tom

Hello Since I have done a bulkmarcimport searching isn't possible anymore. I allways get: Can't call method "as_usmarc" on an undefined value at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Search.pm line 2106. Koha 2.2.9, Unicode (UTF-8), Latin-1 (ISO-8859-1) and migration to Koha 3

Hi list, I have a Koha 2.2.9 system running on a machine with SLES 9 (SUSE Linux Enterpise Server) with SP3 (Service Pack 3), running Apache 2.2.0 and MySQL 4.0.18 I'm now considering migrating it to another machine that will run Koha 3 Beta 2, on a server with SLES 10 with SP1 (Service Pack 1), running Apache 2.2.4 and MySQL 5.0.26 I have done a mysqldump of the koha database in the Koha 2.2.9 system. Unfortunately, I found out that the dump has mixed character encodings, namely that some characters are in Unicode ("UTF-8") and others are in Latin-1 ("ISO 8859-1" and/or "ISO-8859-15"). I am Portuguese (living in Portugal), so the "problematic" characters are the Portuguese accented characters ("ã" - a tilde; "ç" - c cedilla; "é" - e acute; and other characters with accents). This leads to my first question: 1 - Should a Koha 2.2.9 system be preferably set up for Unicode ("UTF-8") or Latin-1 ("ISO-8859-1" / "ISO 8859-15")? By reading the following page: Encoding and Character Sets in Koha http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=encodingscratchpad ... and namely, the first version of that page - http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=encodingscratchpad&rev=1152103445 - it seems that for versions of Koha >= 2.2.6, I should set up the "locale", Apache and MySQL for Unicode ("UTF-8"). Is this correct? My next question is this one: 2 - What is the "best" way to convert this "mixed" mysqldump (UTF-8 / ISO-8859-1) file to a "pure" UTF-8 one (or to a "pure" Latin-1 one)? Koha3 Beta2 - rebuild_zebra.pl error: Can't locate C4/Context.pm

I managed to get Koha3 Beta2 installed on a box with Debain etch 4. I've followed the instructions in INSTALL.debian but hit a snag when I got to the point of doing import and fast-index marc records (which I had no problem on a prior box running Koha3 Beta[1]). > 7.1 Import: > $ misc/migration-tools/bulkmarcimport.pl -file /path/to/marc.iso2709 > 7.2 Fast Index: > $ misc/migration-tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -w The import part seemed to go fine but I got an error when rebuilding the zebra index: kohaadmin@kohabeta2:/usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools$ export KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/koha-conf.xml kohaadmin@kohabeta2:/usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools$ ./rebuild_zebra.pl -w -b Can't locate C4/Context.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8 /usr/share/perl/5.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at ./rebuild_zebra.pl line 5. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at ./rebuild_zebra.pl line 5. On the other box running beta1 I was able to run the same script with no problem. Any suggestion on how I can resolve this? Amazon content server error
