by Julie Hulama 25 Sep '08

We have heard of Koha and have attempted to install version 2.2.9 ...and have had no experience using a LMS. This is our first attempt to test an open source . We have attempted to enter a catalogue record into the prescribed Marc Record however some of the marc fields are not necessary for use and we did skip those fields...when we tried at add the record it did not accept. ? What options do I choose to delete the marc fields that that are not relevant....please help. Julie Hulama Papua New Guinea

Koha as a tiny CMS
by Jason Ronallo 25 Sep '08

Hi, I wanted to add a few arbitrary pages to my library's website, but did not want to create static pages or maintain another application. I also wanted to make it so that someone without lots of HTML experience could add a page easily. So I made a few changes to a template to allow a parameter to be accepted. Now when I create certain local system preferences that content can be inserted into my template. Here are the steps necessary to do something similar: http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dfmj5f5d_197f43492f3 Please let me know if you have any problems following these steps. If anyone knows why this is a bad idea or poorly executed, please let us know. I wonder if this wouldn't be a good feature for future version, especially for small libraries? Is there a good place for the Koha project to keep documentation like this? I'd be happy to add it wherever it might fit. Jason

Somehow, somewhere something is wrong and I cannot really figure out what. My server name is debian, but on debian:8080I only get Koha 2.2.9 (working fine). However, if I browse to 127.0.0.1:8080 I get the folowing error message; Anybody know why? Thanks, Marty Koha error The following fatal error has occurred: Usage: $class->connect([$dsn [,$user [,$passwd [,\%attr]]]]) at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Context.pm line 646 Compilation failed in require at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Circulation.pm line 25. Re: [Koha] Printing a circulation receipt
by Cab Vinton 24 Sep '08

Thank you for the responses, Bernardo and Joe. I found drivers for our printer online & everything prints fine, although I haven't figured out yet how to have the receipt print automatically yet. Also, I would like to be able to customize the fields that are printed and the layout (margins & font size). I'd like to print Date Due, Author & Title, instead of Date Due, Title & Barcode. Is there a way to make these changes? Thank you, Cab Vinton, Director Sanbornton Public Library Sanbornton, NH

AOL users and koha logins?
by MJ Ray 24 Sep '08

24 Sep '08

Hi all - any AOL users logging into Koha OPACs out there? Can you help me, please? I've a report from a borrower that "the site tells me I am entering from a different IP address (whatever that means) and require I re log in again each time i wish to access a different part of the site" I've had a quick search of the Koha sites and not found any reports of this and AOL is big enough that I'd expect someone else to have seen the problem. Can any AOL users test their OPAC and see if they can log in OK, please? That site was running Koha 3.0.0rc1 at the time of the report, I think, in case it matters. Thanks in advance for any help. -- MJ Ray (slef) Webmaster for hire, statistician and online shop builder for a small worker cooperative http://www.ttllp.co.uk/ http://mjr.towers.org.uk/ (Notice http://mjr.towers.org.uk/email.html) tel:+44-844-4437-237

Acquisitions
by Paul Landers 23 Sep '08

23 Sep '08

Hi everyone. We almost certainly will be moving to Koha in 2009 and we're currently evaluating 3.00. Could someone who is heavily using the Acquisitions module answer these questions: Does the current 3.00 Acquisitions module (or the upcoming 3.2) have this level of flexibility: Place a single order on a single purchase order with a single vendor for 8 copies of a single book to be distributed among 4 libraries, but pay for each copy of the book from independent budgets (yes, this is actually something we must do!) Handle irregular serials and standing book orders with ease (i.e. serials and books that are released on irregular or unknown intervals) Thank you! Paul
