I'm about to get crazy on this character set mix. I have Koha 3 on Ubuntu 8.04 MySQL 5 Apache 2.2 Perl 5.8 Firefox 3 Stright out of the box installation. I've followed the instructions on http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=ubuntu_gutsy to install and it went in with some minor hickups. When I use Z39.50 to search for an item it shows up with a black rhomb with a white question mark in it if the character is outside ASCII. Like ö becomes � If I save the record it shows up with the same rhomb/q-mark for those characters. Then I went to http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=encodingscratchpad but none of the hints there made any difference. So, is there anyone who have made this combination to play with non ASCII characters. And if so, can you list what you have done outside of the vanilla installation?

942c field and Item Types

I think something similar to this question has been posed before but we are having a tough time figuring out the details. I know that the 942c field is for Koha Item Type, but there is also a place in the "Add item" section, field "y" to enter the item type. We are using the z39.50 server to scan in all of our 15,000 records and enter them into the catalog in about a week so we are trying to create a training document for the large number of volunteers who are helping us. We would PREFER not to have to tell them to go to the "9" tab and then select the item type under 942c. They are already choosing a few things in the "Add Item" section so that is where we originally had them picking the item type. But it seems like if you select it in the "y" field on the add item page it does not automatically change that field (942c) on the record (and vice versa). Is there a way to either "turn off" the 942c field (because right now if you don't select it, it defaults all our books to the first item type on the list "Audio Book") or a way to map what we enter in the "y" field to the 942c field. We just want a quick, one step, way to pick item type (preferably without having to have volunteers muddle around in the MARC records) that will make it work so that it functions correctly for searches as well as any circulation issues. Searching UTF-8 entries [Koha 3.01.00.002]

Dear All, I recently imported our stock of 70'000 records into Koha via the Koha interface. Now I am kind of wondering, whether I am for some reason unable to search for Chinese (UTF-8 coded) entries, which seemed to work fine when there were only two of them around, or whether Zebra is still on its way indexing the new stuff. Is there a way of telling, whether Zebra is still indexing? (It took like two days until we could search for the western entries from A-Z.) Appreciating any hints. Best regards, Marc

Koha to MARC mapping

We're currently working on migrating our data from Sirsi to Koha but I'm having some problems and I'm curious if anyone else has run into the same problem. We're exporting a catalog key from Sirsi into MARC tag 994, subfield a. I've added a new column to the biblioitems table and created the mapping between that MARC field and the new Koha field, but no data ever gets into the new column in the database. The other fields that are mapped (isbn, issn, publisher, etc.) are filled after running bulkmarcimport.pl but the new field is not. I can see the field in the marcxml column with the correct data. And is the "NOTE : if you change the link between a MARC subfield and a non-MARC field, ask your administrator to run misc/rebuildnonmarc.pl script." message in the intranet interface in 3.0 leftover from 2.x? Rebuildnonmarc.pl doesn't exist. I appreciate any help. Thank you. Scott, I am also trying to get LDAP to work in Koha 3.0 without success. Our LDAP requies auth bind, which we can do. For a query to be successful when we use any LDAP tool we must specifically ENABLE SEARCH SUBCONTAINERS and specifically DISABLE REFERRER CHASING. We have not yet found a way to set these options in Koha 3. -------------------------------- The question of (anonymous or not) static bind vs. bind-as-auth is still being debated amongst Koha users. In any case, you should upgrade to 3.0 or later if you can, to get more flexibility out of the LDAP implementation. The current implementation in 3.0 uses static bind. At least, 3.0 would keep you from having to hack running files directly. Koha 2.2.9 (win32) -- cookies and authentication

Hi all, First: Please forgive my ignorance.....I'm not a programmer....and I may be biting off more than I can chew ...... Is there a (easy) way to pass authentication information to Koha ?? Or.....a way to have/make Koha generate a session cookie based on external information? Or maybe change the way cookies are generated/issued? I've been trying to figure out a way for my users (k-12 students) to use the same login/password in Koha as they do everywhere else. We use Novell NDS/LDAP as our main authentication mechanism. I have a basic PHP/Perl login script ( http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tools/14122.html) that can return basic information like: ****************************** Bind result is: 1 1 entries returned Login Successful - Welcome Test Student Here you could add sessions or cookies to verify the person has logged in with the corect UserName and Password. *Title:* *Sur Name:* Student *Given Name:* Test *E-Mail:* ******************************** I have tried using the Auth_With_ldap.pm but have been unable to get it to work :-( and decided to try this approach instead. workflow in a small library

We have to set a workflow from book ordering, receiving, cataloging to labeling and shelving at our library. We are using Koha 3 since summer but some of the processes still are not clear or have to be adjusted. As we have learned, the MARC record has to be downloaded before item is received – otherwise we are creating additional biblio record. Is this happening to you? Could anyone share with us your experience in workflow in Koha? May be you figured this out already or have any suggestions. If you are using Koha and have a similar number of staff, how do you share work? We are quite poorly staffed: 1 acquisition librarian (orders) 1 catalog librarian (marc records) 1 circulation librarian (stamping, labeling, shelving). Urgent Biblio problem

Greetings, I have installed Koha 2.2.9 on Ubuntu os and we were using it for our library i.e Hawassa University, Ethiopia. Till now we added about six hundred biblios in the koha database. But after sometime it won't add bibliographic records it will stack and waits a long time. Please if you have any idea on this, help me. I get stacked. If you need additional information please get me. Thank you
