Obviously accidentally pressing send before completing the email is something I'm also going to have to learn about - apologies! Questions: When cataloguing, if I want to enter an author (using z3950) whose name has a foreign character, for example, an umlaut, the page freezes and I lose the entry. How do I avoid this - what am I doing wrong? How do I edit the author field anyway? By far the majority of my cataloguing is original, records aren't in other libraries elsewhere. Is there a quick and easy way of doing this? It all seems so long winded at the moment, it's enough to make me wish for old-style catalogue cards, at least I could quickly and easily enter data onto those!!! (No not really!) Is anyone else doing manual cataloguing and would like to share thoughts and best practice? What's the best way to enter journal runs? I don't want to check them in, I'm talking about a run of journals that are no longer published, entering them as one item but showing which issues we have, and any indexes etc. .....there will be more!! Stepping through Global Preferences

Ok. I am stepping through settup up Global Preferences for our migration to 3.0. There are some listed in the manual that are not on the screen. I am quite nervous about adding a preference to what appears on the screen. In particular, I am looking at the Authorities preferences and really want BiblioAddsAuthorities and dontmerge. Thanx. Intranet - Add MARC Record - Error 500 [SOLVED]

Hi! This is an informative post, because never before I write about this error (I had it and I solved it), but can be useful for another users: I have a fresh Koha 3 [3.00.00.107] install in a GNU/Linux Fedora 9 server, running over Apache 2 (daemon httpd), MySQL 5.0.51a, Perl 5.010.000. I go to the Koha-Intranet, login and try to 'Add MARC Record': koha give me an 'Error 500'. I saw the koha log (/var/log/koha/koha-error_log) and the last line contains ... ModSecurity: Output filter: Response body too large (over limit of 524288, total not specified) ... I find by google the solution in: [es - spanish] http://hostingaldescubierto.com/wordpress/2008/04/15/modsecurity-output- filter-response-body-too-large/. mod_security is an Apache module for enhanced security. This module let block the http-response more large than xxx bytes. And this is the problem. In a Fedora 9 default configuration, these are the settings: [ in /etc/httpd/modsecurity.d/modsecurity_crs_10_config.conf ] SecRequestBodyAccess On SecResponseBodyAccess On SecResponseBodyMimeType (null) text/html text/plain text/xml SecResponseBodyLimit 524288 The 'Add MARC record' page (http://intranet.koha/cgi-bin/koha/cataloguing/addbiblio.pl) have a size over 937,71 KB (960.211 bytes) [firefox say] and the limit setted by mod_security is 524.288 bytes. Authority search results

Dear all, After an authority search I have an authority list but clicking on any of them I receive a new window with the following error: No _parse_* routine defined on this driver The link for each entry that is seen in the bottom is the folloowing .../cgi-bin/authorities/details.pl?authid= what means that there is no authid. Is it an error or a bad parametrization. Thanks, Rafael

Hello, My library is preparing to migrate to Koha, and I'm trying to make sure we have enough support in place for the librarians and staff who will have to develop new procedures and workflows. I've been reading this mailing list in web forum from time to time, and it seems to be mainly for administrators. I was wondering a) Can I request that a new list be started? And b) Are there people on here who would be interested in this list? I'm thinking it would be for technical services library workers who could share how they accomplish certain goals, or could ask if they're having trouble figuring out how to do something. (I know that's vague. Specifically, right now, our Serials Librarian is curious about how the predictions work in Koha.) I agree that there is a definite divide in the type of people that subscribe to this list. Many are the actual programmers and tech people that are into the actual "innards" of programming and tweaking Koha. The rest of us are librarians and staff that could be defined as "users". We have a wide array of computer skills with using the program, practically, but not the underlying structures. How do you best run an overdue list, what field is appropriate for the ISBN, where do you put volume numbers so they display, etc. are the type of questions we encounter. There is an overlap, of course. Some folks are in one-person situations. We all have common interests in the capabilities of Koha and future development. So, yes, I agree that maybe we need two lists, but I would miss SOME of the interplay between the two camps! Salvete! There is a developer list for developers, so really, if you just have general Koha questions, they do go here. Don't be shy. Pipe up! Or this turns into the devel list part deux. :D There used to be a lot of Librarian "How do you do stuff?" type questions, particularly in the before time predating any real documentation. I think maybe a new mantra is necessary. If you are using the software, you are part of the community. Aummmmm. Cheers, Brooke

Hello, One of our libraries is interested in setting up an auto dialer system that would work with Koha to send hold/overdue notices via phone (or VOIP). Is this possible yet?
