Re: [Koha] exploring Koha
by Doug Dearden 03 Apr '09

Hi Sean, A little advice on moving your records from your current system to Koha. I have not worked with the Innovative system so cannot speak to details, but there should be some way to export records in MARC format. These records won't be in perfect Koha format, but the basic fields should match up correctly. The devil is in the details though, and the way that the item info including item type, bar code, and other item specific info probably won't be in the right place. You can download MarcEdit (created by Terry Reese at Oregon State) to break a MARC encoded file into a human readable format, and it also has tools to make changes to files. Koha stores item specific info in the 952 field, so the challenge I faced during our migration was getting all the item info moved into the correct place in the record. MarcEdit can create a VB script that you can then modify to do the changes you need. Koha has tools to do the importing, you will find them in the staff client under Tools. There is also a perl script to do the importing (bulkmarcimport.pl if memory serves me) that can be used from the command line. I would suggest you see if you can do an export of some of your data from your current system in MARC format, then break the file using the MarcEdit tool into human readable format a take a look. As a test you can copy and paste a record into a new file, edit it manually, use the MarcMaker function in MarcEdit to put it back into the correct format and do the import into Koha to get a feel for the process. Good luck with your project. Would anyone have advice on exporting Innovative records and importing them into Koha (we'd like to import a small sampling to simulate our production system, looking to Liblime for full system migration when/if the time comes)? Re: [Koha] Usecase for KOHA serial acquisition

Please remember to reply to all - sometimes other people have good answers too :) As for what you want - there are documents for each of those processes within the manual. There is not however handling for bound volumes in 3.0 - but might be coming with the improvements that the developers are working on for serials and acquisitions. --- Nicole C. More problems with Koha as Z39.50 server
by Magnus Enger 03 Apr '09

03 Apr '09

Dear all, I'm having some trouble getting Koha to work as a Z39.50 server. * Background I'm running Koha 3.01.00.014 on Debian 4.0 (on Amazon EC2). Zebra is on and searching in the OPAC is working fine. During the Makefile.PL part of the installation I chose the "single" install, so alle Koha files are found under /mnt/koha/. I chose the default for all the ports etc. * Preparation I have edited koha-conf.xml from this: <!-- <listen id="publicserver" >tcp:@:9999</listen> -> to this: <listen id="publicserver" >tcp:@:9999</listen> And I have restarted Zebra with /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-demon restart I have also made suer port 9999 is open. * Symptoms When I try to access http://kohanor.collib.info:9999/ in a browser, I get this: YAZ 3.0.36 Error: 404 Description: Not Found I log on to the server and try with yaz-client, and I get this: ~# yaz-client Z> open localhost:9999/biblios Connecting...OK. I have (of course) tried to Google for different parts of the error-messages, but without finding anything very helpful. Regards, Magnus Enger

Patron info on Details page
by Tim McMahon 02 Apr '09

02 Apr '09

The information for some patrons doesn't show up when we select the Details tab on the Koha 3 staff interface. It just displays "No address stored", "No city stored",... It displays fine on the other tabs. I can't figure out why it doesn't work for only some of the patrons. There was nothing in the koha-error_log. Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone have any ideas what could cause it? -- Tim McMahon Technical Services West Liberty Public Library

Koha Error When Searching
by Rovin 02 Apr '09

02 Apr '09

Hello, If I add a MARC Record, but not the item, when I search for that record using the OPAC interface, it shows up. Why is it the MARC record showing up if an item was not added. Also, when I try to place a hold on the Item i get an error(naturally). Is there any way of replacing the error message with a customized message. Is there any way of preventing a record from showing up in search result if an item was not added.
