OPAC and Intranet not accessible via Internet
by AD 07 Apr '09

07 Apr '09

Hi, I have difficulties to make library Opac accessible via Internet. Opac is working properly on the local host. I changed "localhost" with IP number but without success (http://localhost/cgi-bin/koha/opac-main.pl <http://xxxxxxx/cgi-bin/koha/opac-main.pl> ). The same problem is with the "Intranet." Can anybody advise me how to fix the problem? MySQl and Apache are installed according to the instructions (as far as I can see). I use Win XP pro, Koha v.2.2.9; Apache v.2.2.9, My SQL v.4.1, ActivePerl 5.8.9, YAZ toolkit. I'm connected via LAN. Sincerely,

Problem installing Koha 3.00.00 on Debian 8.4
by Thomas Sycko 07 Apr '09

07 Apr '09

Hello, All, I've tried to install Koha several times using the 'Installing Koha on Ubuntu Hard Heron' instructions in the Koha Wiki. Everything appears to have gone well, except I cannot get Koha to run. When I try to access Koha, I receive the Apache default 'It Works!' page instead of Koha. I receive the same response whether I access the site using port 80 or 8080. I've tried accessing directly from the server, using lynx http://localhost:8080, etc, and from another computer on the LAN, using the server's IP address, 192.168.1.67:8080. I'm really too much of a novice to even be trying this, but I've looked over the koha.conf file and everything appears to be correct. Could this be a problem with permissions? Any other ideas? I thank you in advance for any help you can offer. Regards, Tom

Adding vendors into Koha 3.0 in preparation for conversion from 2.x
by Joann Ransom 07 Apr '09

07 Apr '09

Hi all, I am working through the implemnentation checklist from the Koha 3.0 manual, in readiness for shifting from Koha 2.x to 3.x. I am at the part where I need to create vendors and budgets. My question is regarding Vendors. In our existing Koha 2.x, we have way too many vendors: 104 inactive vendors with no outstanding orders 37 inactive vendors with old orders prior to 2009 (these are highly unlikely to be delivered now) 42 active vendors with no outstanding orders 44 active vendors with outstanding orders due prior to 2009 (a tiny % of these may still arrive) 21 active vendors with outstanding orders dated 2009 (highly likely to arrive) We are in the process of contracting out our book selection as from June so 13 vendors only will be used going forward. Q1. So, for the purposes of preparing for implementation of Koha 3.0 do I need to manually enter the vendors into Koha 3.0 or will they be brought over in the conversion process automatically? Q2. Do we need to keep inactive vendors who supplied books which we still have in our current collection? ie will removing or omitting the vendor from the database 'break' the link back to the actual order information from the item screen? Thanks for any help and advice, Cheers Jo

952 tag -- Adding subfield "k"
by Chris Mueller 07 Apr '09

07 Apr '09

In Koha 3-stable frameworks the 942 tag includes subfield "k", call no. prefix. The 952 tag does not have subfield "k". I can add 952 $k to the frameworks -- Tab:10, | Koha field: biblioitems.cn_prefix, Not repeatable, Not mandatory, | Auth value:XXXX. My question: Which needs to be created first? The "k" subfield for the 952 tag, or the "XXXX" authorized value. Question concerning Koha setup, it may be stupid but please show your brilliance
by Erik Lewis 06 Apr '09

06 Apr '09

Hi, We are looking at gearing up for Kohacon in preperation for the Koha conference and for possible implementations. In doing so I've got a few basic questions. I understand that Koha is essentially 2 parts an Apache application server and a MySQL database server. I also understand that some libraries run a seperate application server for staff access and one for patron access. If I'm not mistaken you can run these on different machines as well. 1) Is there any problem mixing Application servers with the Database server. Example a Mac serving MySQL and either Windows, Mac, or Linux App servers? 2) Any upper limit on the number of App servers? 3) Where does the Zebra indexing live? 4) What are the pitfalls of having the Database server on a separate server?

Authority search
by Beda Szukics 06 Apr '09

06 Apr '09

Hi If I try to search an authority record (using home->authorities->Search Authorities) I get no result and the koha-error-log tells me: [Wed Apr 01 18:41:04 2009] [error] [client 192.168.1.51] [Wed Apr 1 18:41:04 2009] authorities-home.pl: oAuth error: Unsupported Use attribute (114) Heading-Main Bib-1, referer: http://kbverwaltung.kollegium-sarnen.ch/cgi-bin/koha/authorities/authoritie… ?op=do_search&type=intranet&marclist=mainentry&and_or=and&operator=contains&value=Beethoven&orderby=HeadingAsc But I can find the record using Home->Authorities->Search Main Heading Using Home->Authorities->Search All Hedings doesn't work too and the koha-error-log gives a shorter message: [Wed Apr 01 18:45:17 2009] [error] [client 192.168.1.51] [Wed Apr 1 18:45:17 2009] authorities-home.pl: oAuth error: Unsupported Use attribute (114) Any Bib-1, referer: http://kbverwaltung.kollegium-sarnen.ch/cgi-bin/koha/authorities/authoritie… What's wrong with my Koha? Cannot edit record if indexing fails?
by Martin Longo 06 Apr '09

06 Apr '09

Hi there ! I need help with a problem I'm trying to figure out testing koha (3.000.1 stable). Followed all the steps recommended for working with UTF-8 The scenario goes like this: We have 13 and some libraries that we want to manage with Koha. Right now I'm testing the import tools (web based and command line) with records from one of those databases (around 50.000 records). The two tools work fine and get the work done, but when the records are more than 5000 the web based interface takes too long and sometimes it never ends... One problem arises when I rebuild the zebra index. The process rejects some records (I don't know how many). AFAIK, in this records, the script chokes on 952 records that have a Ü (capitalized U with a dieresis) or a Ö (capitalized O with a dieresis) character on the shelving location subfield (I send some images as attachment). The problem is not with every ü character. in fact, if they are present i.e. in the author field and not in the 952 field, they pass to the index and I can find them without any problem. The thing that makes things more dificult is that... even if I wanted to fix this records by hand with Koha cataloging interface... I can't, because I can't search for them (I can search for them, but I can't find or retrieve them, because they weren't indexed)... So ... I can "fix" (they are correct, I shouldn't need to fix them, but I could change the conflictive characters where needed) those records in the original database and bulkmarcimport them deleting everything (-d option). That would be a nice solution for the first database ... but there are 13 of them ... and I don't want to be erasing 'n-1' databases when I hit a similar problem importing the database number 'n'... So ... anyone can give some advice on how to solve this? is there a way to find/edit records without having to search for them? or .. better .. is there a way to patch/fix the indexing process, so those characters can pass without problem? Internal error: Incomplete hold request
by Richard Pritsky 04 Apr '09

04 Apr '09

HI! We just upgraded our Debian system to Lenny and Koha to the latest upgrade available via git. Our patrons are now experiencing the error noted in the subject line above when they try to place a hold via the opac. We have no problem doing so via the staff interface. Is there a bug fix we need to apply that hasn't yet made it out? Or is there a preference we need to reset since our upgrade? Thanks Richard Pritsky
