SCLS is blogging
by Vicki Teal Lovely 16 May '09

16 May '09

At the KohaCon a couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that we at SCLS would be blogging about our Koha development projects and our migration experience. Well, our blog is now up and running. We are still on Dynix Classic and have contracted with LibLime for support and development. In the most recent post, we talk about the development projects we will be working on first with LibLime: http://scls.typepad.com/link2koha/ We are also making posts on Twitter: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23link2koha On our blog, we have an Open Source Resources page where, among other things, we keep a list of blogs that our libraries may wish to follow. *If you have blog about Koha, but don't see your blog listed there, I would love to include it. * Just send me the link. Here is the link to our Open Source Resources page: http://scls.typepad.com/link2koha/open-source-resources.html We have learned so much by following the blogs of others and we are hoping to contribute our little bit of experience in the hopes that others may benefit. (By the way, I tried to get to the koha list page and koha blogs page on the new koha.org and there seem to be some broken links.) -- Vicki Teal Lovely vtl(a)scls.lib.wi.us Software Applications Supervisor SCLS Automation 201 W. Problems with searching for items in koha
by Sheldon T. 16 May '09

16 May '09

Hi All, I have a problem when I'm trying to search for an item type in Koha. When i performed a search of any kind for itemtypes days ago I was able to find the items. Now today, when I try to do a search I'm not getting any results. Here is the message I am receiving whilst trying to search for a book or anyother itemtype: "No results found No results match your search with limit(s): 'mc-itype:3WLB' in UG Library Turkeyen Campus Catalog. " I searched for this itemtype many times before today and I've always found results. I even checked the database, all of the records are intact there. Thank you in advance, Sheldon -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Problems-with-searching-for-items-in-koha-tp23575748p… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Authority Records "required" - renders controlled headings in biblios uneditable for those not using authority records
by Harris, Gary, DCA 15 May '09

15 May '09

Greetings- I am writing today to ask about the status of this bug/feature. To summarize the information below, this anomalous behavior causes libraries (esp. small, rural libraries, certain special libraries, and mobile libraries) to not be able to edit controlled headings in their bibliographic records in Koha. This represents a real problem for library staff who know little or nothing about authority control, and also special libraries that manage authorities in different ways. Can anyone in the community help? Thank you. Gary NM State Library ======================================================================== == Hi, On Wed, Apr 16, 2008 at 11:36 AM, Paul POULAIN <paul.poulain at free.fr <http://lists.koha.org/mailman/listinfo/koha-devel> > wrote: > 3 questions/problems/suggestions : I'm still working on a response to these, but to add a fourth one, with recent work Koha 3 is now in a situation where authority records are now *required* -- this was not true prior to the second beta. In order for a cataloger to be able to add or edit a heading in the bib record without being *required* to open a popup window for each heading, BiblioAddsAuthorities must be turned on. However, I don't think turning BiblioAddsAuthorities on is suitable for every library. as automatically creating authority records is a good way to enshrine typos. I propose adding another syspref (perhaps called RequireAuthoritySearch) that controls whether a heading field is readonly or not in the bib editor. This would be orthogonal to the BibilioAddsAuthorities syspref. This is especially a problem where the library has not loaded any authorities and had them linked to bibs nor have the syspref BiblioAddsAuthorities turned on to create brief authorities. They have NO way of changing this info. Suggestion is to add a syspref that will allow users to edit the contents of the $a in these tags directly from the editor. Caveat to be clearly explained to customer for short term - In the case where a library has loaded authorities or created stubbies and have them linked to the tag, they can/will need be directed to make the changes in the authority record itself and have the changes reflect back into the bib otherwise they are in the position where they will delink the authority from the bib. I will be adding another open enhancement request to make it more efficient to access the edit authorities via the bib frameworks editor. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Gary L. Koha Error on Save to Your List
by Melanie Saldua 15 May '09

Hello, I'm experiencing an error in saving books in my list. I can only save to my list in the drop down menu. I wonder what's the problem... RE-migrate using MySQL Windows GUI?
by Nelson Fredsell -CCE 15 May '09

All, We've migrated data and now want to re-migrate with more accurate mapping of records/items. (We're learning more how to use Marc tags/fields daily!) Koha admin interface seems to only allow re-migration thru a matching of ISBN/ISSN. From my limited knowledge, I'm thinking it would be helpful to have additional matching fields for a re-import. Preferably *required* fields/tags, unlike ISBN/ISSN. Given that this is not an option, I'm considering whether there is a way from my Windows XP client to edit the MySQL tables hosted on our Koha Linux server. Could I view, edit, and delete Marc records and Koha 952 items this way? Might the GUI be this one: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/gui-tools/5.0.html? Another related issue I've recently come across is that I don't think I can use MarcEdit to work with existing records until we've entered ISBN from scratch?! Maybe I should assign bogus, unique ISBN as a workaround in order to move records in and out of Koha? Thanks, Nelson Koha Enthusiast Implementing a union catalogue in Cape Town, South Africa

Re: [Koha] Ubuntu 8.0.4 Koha 3.0 Install
by Zeno Tajoli 15 May '09

Hi Byron, One strange thing I did notice with the install came on the very last step when I ran the command: > >sudo zebrasrv -f /etc/koha/koha-conf.xml > >After running this command I got the message below and it just hung >(as in it did not return back to the command line). I am not sure >if that was normal or not. > >[server] Starting server zebrasrc pid=11602 it OK that you don't return back to command line with the command "sudo zebrasrv -f /etc/koha/koha-conf.xml" With this comand you start a daemon in foreground withou a log file. So the log file of the daemon is your teminal. Try sudo zebrasrv -f /etc/koha/koha-conf.xml 1>/tmp/log_zebra 2>/tmp/error_zebra & With '&' the daemon zebrasrv goes in background With 1>/tmp/log_zebra 2>/tmp/error_zebra you create two log file to read as debug 1>/tmp/log_zebra --> log of normal messages 2>/tmp/error_zebra --> log of error. Attention that this solution is only for test. Read with you system admin the file 'INSTALL.debian' [it is in the koha source archive] to find a more stable solution. Ubuntu is based on debian so many part of debian istruction could be used with Ubuntu. Ubuntu 8.0.4 Koha 3.0 Install
by Byron Smith 15 May '09

15 May '09

Hi Guys, I have recently tried installing Koha 3.00 on Ubuntu 8.04 with apache and mysql. I have been following the instructions laid out at: http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=koha_3_install_guide_ubuntu_hardy. I have followed through with each step and everything seems to have installed correctly yet when I get to the end of the instructional and bring up http://localhost:8080 <http://localhost:8080/> all I get is the generic "It works" message from the default index.htm. Obviously I have missed something fairly important somewhere along the line. One strange thing I did notice with the install came on the very last step when I ran the command: sudo zebrasrv -f /etc/koha/koha-conf.xml After running this command I got the message below and it just hung (as in it did not return back to the command line). I am not sure if that was normal or not. [server] Starting server zebrasrc pid=11602 If anyone could shed any light on this it would be greatly appreciated! Regards, Byron
