Hello; I am installing Koha 3.00.02 on a Debian server ( 5.0.0 Lenny ) and I am at the tail end of the install where I am trying to get a login to Koha - via 127.0.1.1:8080 (It is installed on the server) and I get a message that the version of XML::LibXSLT is 1.70 and needs to be 1.66 Does anyone know a way to drop back a version from cpan or the command line? Here is the error : Koha error The following fatal error has occurred: This version of XML::LibXSLT requires XML::LibXML 1.66 (ABI 1), which is incompatible with currently installed XML::LibXML 1.70 (ABI 2). Koha 3.0.5 + "Browse Shelf" issue
by Zico 22 Feb '10

22 Feb '10

Hi, one of my supervisor just checked the "Browse Shelf" of 3.0.5 today and asked me about some problemetic issue. When, we go for "Browse Shelf" point, it shows some weird images there instead of showing actual book cover page. As for example: I am searching for "Computer Algorithm" book but "Browse Shelf" is showing the cover page of another book and same cover page is coming for each and every book of the shelf. I raised this issue in IRC and some of the developers told that... "it could be bug"! But, how about you? Can you please let us know if it is bug or not? If it is not bug, it will be really helpful for me if you can show me some way of solution. -- Best, Zico

Re: [Koha] Use of Amazon reviews etc illegal?
by m.mason＠ytu.edu.au 22 Feb '10

Nicole and all: I just discovered that Jesse Haro reported last March that library catalog use of Amazon material was forbidden by Amazon as contrary to the terms of the Amazon Associates Web Service . Re: Use of Amazon.com Content in Koha's Catalog From : Jesse Haro <<mailto:jesse.haro_at_nyob?Subject=Re:%20%20Use%20of%20Amazon.com%20Content%20in%20Koha%27s%20Catalog>jesse.haro_at_nyob> Date : Wed, 19 Mar 2008 12:54:17 -0700 To : NGC4LIB_at_LISTSERV.ND.EDU I have been following the trail of conversation regarding Amazon.com and thought it worth sharing our recent experience with Amazon. I oversee the OPAC environment for Phoenix Public and was the lead in implementing Amazon product data not only into our OPAC, but also directly into our bibliographic data for searching. We have implemented Endeca for our OPAC and have implemented various product elements into the search index. Following the release of the Customer Service Agreement from Amazon this past December, we requested clarification from Amazon regarding the use of AWS for library catalogs and received the following response: "Thank you for contacting Amazon Web Services. Unfortunately your application does not comply with section 5.1.3 of the AWS Customer Agreement. We do not allow Amazon Associates Web Service to be used for library catalogs. Driving traffic back to Amazon must be the primary purpose for all applications using Amazon Associates Web Service." This response came from the support contact link on the AWS help pages. We are investigating the possibility of establishing a direct relationship with Amazon, however it appears that using AWS for purposes other than section 5.1.3 is in violation of their agreement. We have subsequently removed much of the Amazon content from our OPAC and are looking into other sources of enriched data. Jesse Haro, Web Services Manager Phoenix Public Library [END OF QUOTE FROM JESSE HARO] The customer service agreement has since been updated -- there does not seem to be a 5.1.3 now, and I could not find any express prohibition, but someone at Koha needs to officially contact Amazon to see if this is still the case. Otherwise all the work to access Amazon content on Koha OPACs may be a waste of time and its implementation may leave libraries open to a lawsuit from Amazon. It's too bad. I notice that apart from 'Google covers', all the other 'content enriching' services such as from Baker and Taylor or Syndetics require payment. You probably need to tell us:- * What you did to obtain the error, step-by-step if possible. It looks like you have been installing from cpan instead of using Ubuntu packages. You may need to get general Ubuntu support to remove the cpan copies before you can retry using packages. (This is copy-pasta which you could avoid by reading the list archives before posting. I see many bug reports that are missing vital info like the above and this seems better than you getting no reply.) Koha light weight version
by Vimal Kumar 22 Feb '10

22 Feb '10

Dear Friends, Day by day ( with new releases) Koha package getting bulkier. It takes too much time for download and installation. It is essential to release a light weightversion along with main release. Light weight does not mean Koha with less features, light in terms of size. In my knowledge templates of various languages make Koha big. Light weight version can include three or four main language templates (e.g. English, French etc). I would like to hear from developers and users about the possibility of a Koha light version. -- Vimal Kumar V. Asst. Smaller downloads (was: Re: Koha light weight version)
by Galen Charlton 22 Feb '10

Hi Vimal, 2010/2/22 Vimal Kumar <vimal0212(a)gmail.com>: > Light weight does not mean Koha with less features, light in terms of size. > > In my knowledge templates of various languages make Koha big. We're actually getting there. For 3.2-alpha, I created two downloads, one that included all of the translations expanded out and one that just had the English templates + the PO files with which to generate templates for the other languages. These came in at 227M and 25M, respectively. Since the process of installing a new language is pretty easy now and we can make it even easier by adding a new Makefile target, I see no reason why we can't have the more compact version become the primary option for downloading Koha as a tarball. HLT Koha Committee Draft Rules
by Bob Birchall ＠ Calyx 21 Feb '10

21 Feb '10

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions to improve the draft committee rules. I've updated the draft rules here: http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=en:organisations:koha_project_organisation: hlt:rules The section on Membership of the committee has been significantly amended. There was a suggestion that the Head Librarian of HLT be a member of the committee. The revised draft leaves that question to the Trustees. In the new draft, rather than having elections from time to time, persons with major roles in the community now have committee membership ex-officio. These officers (release manager, release maintainer etc) are elected from time to time by the community. There's no point duplicating the election process (IMHO). The committee itself can appoint another member - perhaps a representative of a library system rather than a support company? Other changes mostly reflect the suggestions that were made. I understand that the Trust meeting is late this week. Further suggestions should be copied direct to jransom(a)library.org.nz Bob Birchall Calyx
